Best RV Parks & Resorts near Palmetto Bay, FL

Several RV parks within reach of Palmetto Bay provide electric, sewer, and water hookups for motorhomes and travel trailers. Encore Miami Everglades RV Resort offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service, accommodating large rigs on gravel pads. "The sites are close together there is little privacy. Lots of regulars and full-timers," according to one camper's experience. Southern Comfort RV Resort in Florida City features spacious pull-through sites with full hookups approximately 15 miles southwest of Palmetto Bay. The Boardwalk RV Resort in Homestead maintains concrete pads with 50-amp service and can accommodate big rigs with advance reservations.

Advance reservations are essential during winter months when snowbirds fill most parks to capacity. Most RV parks in the region remain open year-round, though summer brings intense heat, humidity and mosquitoes. Dump stations are available at all major RV resorts, with Encore Miami Everglades maintaining sanitary dump facilities on-site. Cell coverage varies by provider but remains generally strong throughout the area, with AT&T and Verizon offering reliable service at most parks. Pet policies differ significantly - while Miami Everglades and Southern Comfort welcome pets with standard restrictions, Breezy Hill RV Resort maintains a strict no-pets policy. Laundry facilities are limited at most parks, requiring planning for extended stays.

Midway Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve

All RV Sites Around a Small Lake

Midway in Big Cypress: This is our forth time here. We love this campground, though the sites are open. All trailer sites look over the lake which is in the middle of the campground. This campground seems to be very conducive to meeting people. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Long Pine Key Campground — Everglades National Park

    Long Key Campground serenity

Beautifully manicured park with blacktop pads spaced far enough apart for a fair amount of privacy. Beautiful scenery, great bird watching, lots of stars visible at night. Good Verizon cell service.

Be aware that the pads are small. Only a few sites will fit a large RV and you will have to park you car in overflow parking if the sites are full. Our 35’ class A fit nicely and we were able to park our tow vehicle in an adjacent site since the park was only about half full but we wouldn’t be able to do that during peak season.

    Larry & Penny Thompson Park

Quiet and Peaceful Campground, trees, greenery and option for long term

This is a very nice campground which is part of the Miami-Dade County park system.  It is close to the Encore Everglades park (about 4 miles) so we stayed here after we departed.  The campground is divided into pods and each pod has about 15 or so sites.  We were in pod 4 site 20 (420 lol).  We booked this camp with the intent to stay for a month or longer as my husband had an opportunity to Captain boats in Miami.

The park was very quiet.  Most of the campers were retirees, a few families with kids, but we were there in early January.  The grounds are nicely maintained with lots of places to walk and open space with trees.  They don't allow dogs off-leash and although it is adjacent to the rest of the Larry & Penny park, dogs are not even allowed in the main park, at all.  We did however find a few dog parks within four miles or so which were nice.

They have a very nice pool which was open daily Wed- Sunday 11am - 5pm.  It was raining and rather dreary during our stay so we didn't use the pool.  They have a nice Clubhouse and it looked okay with tables, chairs, books, puzzles, but again very quiet.  Not many activities except for a few and we didn't stay long enough to participate.  After a week, we decided to make moves back home to Lake Tahoe.  It was unseasonably cold, raining so no boat work and not an ideal spot for the dogs.  They don't have WiFi and since we were planning a longer stay, purchased the Starlink system since I work remote during the winter.  Starlink worked great, but costs $500+ to get started and then $120 or so a month.  If you are looking for an affordable long term/monthly stay, it is great.  The rates were $850 a month for full hook-ups.  They had last minute space available, too.

If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo.  We were there when they had the "Zoo Lights" a super fun evening event.  They have other events at the Zoo and lots to do nearby.  You are closer to town than Everglades Encore, but still close to the agricultural area.  I recommend but not as fun or as many activities as some other places.

    Southern Comfort RV Resort

    Best Park in Florida City

This park is located right off Route 1 in Florida City. For the area this is a large park. I believe over 150 sites. The sites are decent in size. The park fills up quickly come the winter time with the “ Snow Birds” but the park overall is wonderful. There is a bar/Tiki Hut on premise and a big swimming pool open year round. This is a pet friendly park but with a breed and size restriction, so call ahead if you have Fido with you.

Long Pine Key Campground — Everglades National Park

Private Sites, Beware of Poisonous Snakes

Long Pine : Sites are more private here than the one other Everglades established campground (Flamingo). More trails here. Flamingo is closer to water activities. We saw a rattlesnake this trip. Previously, we had a water moccasin under our trailer I figure having been disoriented during a torrential downpour. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy and/or view from sites. Cleanliness of whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 3.5. Lower rating than the camping experience deserves. Reasons:? Poor cleanliness of facilities as is often my experience in concessionaire run campgrounds. The interagency pass only attains a 10% discount. Our stay and other retirees I have spoken with limit our stays. Note the campground was only full on weekdays! Price 2023: $ 34 w interagency pass Usage during visit: 1/2 to 3/4 mostly Site Privacy: Low growing shrubs give great privacy between most all RV sites Site Spacing: Good Site surface: Grass Reservations: Yes Campground Noise: Inner loop roads are short with limited # of spaces in each. It’s not too bad Electric Hookup: No Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: Near restroom facilities. Generators: Yes Bathroom: Flush toilets are kept clean. The ready of the facility boarders on disgusting.

Pull Throughs: Available. Cell Service (AT&T): Good, Flamingo is stronger. Setting: Carved into a dense palm shrub lower canopy. Recent Weather: Really varied during our stay. Solar: Good on the clear days. Host: Full time personnel

Mitchell Landing Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve

    Remote Camping

Mitchell’s Landing: this isolated campground has an airboat launch area. I met a man, Bill, who grew up on this property, owned by his Miccosukee family until the mid 70s. According to him, the department of the interior, reneged on their promise that this land would stay in his family. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Midway Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve

    Great Campground---Great Location

Midway Campground- Ochopee, FL: We were here a few years ago and had to come back. This is a great campground in Big Cypress Wilderness Reserve at mile marker 52 on route 41 Tamiami trail. No water or sewer hookups, but there is electric at the site, fire pit, picnic table and good sized spaced out sites. Dump station and potable water available. Host was very friendly and checked on campers regularly. The 26 mile loop road is very close and a great way to experience Florida & Big Cypress backcountry and wildlife from your car or bike. Plenty of hiking trails in the area as well.

Guide to Palmetto Bay

RV sites near Palmetto Bay, Florida typically accommodate large motorhomes on concrete pads with full hookups. Located in Miami-Dade County at approximately 10 feet above sea level, the area experiences a subtropical climate with summer temperatures often exceeding 90°F and high humidity from May through October. Most campgrounds remain open year-round despite seasonal weather fluctuations that bring afternoon thunderstorms during summer months.

What to do

Everglades exploration: 30 minutes west of Palmetto Bay offers wildlife viewing opportunities. Blue Fin Rock Harbor Marina & RV Park provides water access for paddleboarding: "My favorite thing about Blue Fin is starting my mornings on the water, watching the sunrise on my paddle board just steps from my front door!" according to Lori.

Beach access: 45 minutes to Key Biscayne beaches for swimming and snorkeling. Riptide RV Resort offers "a nice pavilion down at water, nice little beach, dock" that Jayne W. appreciated during her three-week stay.

Fruit markets: 20 minutes from most campsites featuring tropical produce. Jennifer A. recommends "Robert Is Here" fruit stand near Encore Miami Everglades, noting "Don't miss it!" while exploring the area.

What campers like

Pools for cooling off: Many RV parks feature swimming facilities to combat the heat. Laurie H. described her experience at Miami Everglades: "The pool looked nicely appointed and clean," and Christian D. noted it had a "nice and warm pool close to Miami."

Walking trails: Several parks offer dedicated paths for exercise. "There is a walking/Biking path around the campground perimeter which is actively used," according to Laurie H. at Southern Comfort RV Resort.

Tiki bars and social activities: Weekend entertainment options exist at some locations. Amber H. mentions, "Tiki bar on site, open on the weekends" at Southern Comfort, which serves as a gathering spot for campers.

What you should know

Water quality concerns: Test results may not always be communicated promptly. Tom M. reported a serious issue at Miami Everglades: "We were only informed upon arrival that the campground's well water contained fecal matter and was a potential source of E. coli. This failure to provide a safety warning ahead of time was irresponsible."

Tight spacing between sites: Privacy can be limited at some locations. Derick B. noted at The Boardwalk RV And Mobile Home Resort that "The lots are huge and clean," but this is unusual for the area.

After-hours check-in varies: Office hours are typically limited. JB shared their experience: "There is no one in the office on the weekends. If you arrive late you have to do everything online. All the site numbers are signed online."

Traffic noise: Some parks experience road noise. Amber H. observed at Southern Comfort that "Traffic noise can be loud at certain times of the day," which can impact your sleeping comfort.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access considerations: Not all pools operate consistently. One camper at Miami Everglades observed, "It's a huge pool but they only let 20 in at a time," which may require planning your swim times accordingly.

Kid-friendly amenities: Some parks offer recreational options beyond swimming. Jennifer A. reported that Miami Everglades has "a really nice big pool, shuffleboard, putt putt golf, arcade and walking trail," providing multiple activities for children.

Safety precautions: Neighborhood conditions vary by park. At Paradise Island RV Resort, Milagros B. found it was a "Campground in the city, great guest services, friendly staff. Near grocery store, and everything!" making it convenient but urban.

Pet restrictions: Policies differ significantly between parks. Ian R. learned this the hard way: "This park was rated as pet friendly in the TT system, turns out it isn't. Now with under 2 weeks to go, we need to make new reservations."

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Consider traffic patterns when navigating to campsites. Mike M. advised about Southern Comfort: "If heading south and coming off the FL Turnpike, you have to get over several lanes in a short distance to make the left turn on to Palm Drive."

Electrical service variations: Most parks offer 50-amp service. Keith F. noted, "Location was great, spaces are too tight though. I could hardly get my RV and Car Trailer through the campground."

Site selection strategies: Request specific sites when possible. Aly E. shared her experience at Miami Everglades: "We were originally assigned a campsite right next to another group who was taking up a lot of space so the office staff graciously worked with us and let us choose our own site."

Winter reservation requirements: For snowbird season, book well in advance. Rob K. observed that Southern Comfort can serve as "a relatively affordable base of vacation operations" that's "Close to the Keys, Everglades, Biscayne and shopping."
