    Fisheating Creek Campground

    Nice Campground to Enjoy

Fish Eating Creek Outpost : Trails and canoe/kayak shuttle provided Water is a bit low right now. There is a 2 mile trail beginning in the campground. There is also a 6.7 mile trail within a short drive from the campground. I have included a map for this trail in photos.

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer. Our rating of a campground is influenced by the following: The general ambiance- sort of wilderness feel the campground gives us. A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy. Cleanliness of whatever type of the campsite and whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 3 Price 2023: $ 38 Usage during visit: Light Site Privacy: Open between sites Site Spacing: Fairly good Site surface: Most are paved . Some are soil/grass. Reservations: Accepted Campground Noise: Quiet during my visit Road Noise: Not noticeable Through Traffic in campground: No Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: Some Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: At site Generators: At some sites allowed Bathroom: Flush Toilets Showers: Yes. Double Curtains Pull Throughs: Most if not all are back ins Cell Service (AT&T): 3 bars Setting: Open park like under large, scattered mossy trees . Recent Weather: to 50s for lows and to 80s for highs. Solar: In many sites should be good solar. The sites in P Loop probably will bony have adequate solar. Host: Yes. Staff friendly.
Rig size: Large rigs Sites: Perimeter sites are nicest in my opinion. Sites under the mossy trees are going to offer some shade.

P1-6 are my favorite sites here. They offer RVs more of a camping kind of atmosphere as they are a little more secluded. Not all have electric/sewer, so better check. They are under trees with moss hanging from them. Not all sites in P1-6 will accommodate a tall rig!

    Resort at Canopy Oaks

    Great Clean Site

Sites are all level, paved, and pretty big. We have a 40ft 5th wheel and fit the rig and truck on the site and still had room to spread out. Full hookups and high speed internet were available at each site as well. Plenty to do at the park from fishing, hitting golf balls, relaxing in the pool, feeding the goats, hanging out at the tiki bar, or watching the dogs run in the two dog parks. Very friendly and accommodating staff as well.

    KOA Campground Okeechobee

A great place for families and kids...

This is the largest KOA in the country...It's a Great campground for families, although I didn't go with one...There is an adult only pool, and a family pool. The Shanty, a bar is right by the adult pool, with entertainment in season and mostly on weekends. I've been there many times in the past, with my TT and my Coach...The sites are mostly large enough for Big rigs...There are upgrades to deluxe sites with brick patios, barbeques, fire pits and chairs. It's a very busy place on the holidays...If you want quiet those days, I don't suggest you go there...There is also a Golf Course, Golf Cart Rental, A nice updated store, A fenced in Dog park...

KOA Moore Haven : Not my cup of tea, however looked clean and maybe appealing if I had a large RV. I would first research what of interest the area offers.

    Ortona South

    River or Grassland Views

Ortona South Campground, ACE campground in Moore Haven, FL. We absolutely love staying here. There are no trails nearby (The unofficial trail near site 21 is closed off due to construction up river.)but a nice walk on the access road out to the highway is a 4 mile round trip from the back of the campground. Lots of dump truck traffic on this road from the nearby gravel yard. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

(71yr olds in a 17’ trailer. Our rating of a campground is influenced by the following: The general ambiance- sort of wilderness feel the campground gives us. Also, a selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy and/or scenic view is valuable. Cleanliness of the facilities that are offered is important and usually noted in my review. ))

Overall Rating: 4 for the spectacular views in most sites.
Price 2023: $ 15 w interagency pass Usage during visit: Full Site Privacy: Open. In our corner site , #21, we were able to swing our 17’ trailer around to offer much more privacy with the water view. This could be done with a small van as well or an RV pulling in nose first. # 20 is the most private site. Site Views: Some sites have very nice water views, others nice open grassland views. Noted below. Site Spacing: Good
Site surface: Concrete Reservations: Yes. Sites in this campground is in high demand.
Campground Noise: Quiet. Road Noise: None Through Traffic in campground: None Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: At sites Bathroom: One in each loop. Flush toilets. Old. Reasonably clean. Showers: Two showers in each bathroom with curtains which share a dressing area.
Pull Throughs: Some - in the first of two loops. Pull throughs all are in the first loop and include a double site.
Cell Service (AT&T): 3 to 4 bars Setting: Campground runs along a the Caloosahatchee River. Open grass land with scattered palm trees on the other side. The campground road runs between the campground and grass land in the first loop only. Recent Weather: 80’s for 5 of our days. Then it cooled off with some rain. Bugs: Mosquitoes are around in the evening, especially . Solar: Would be available in all sites. Host: Sites are near the entrance Rig size: Large rigs are fine in most if not all sites.

Sites: First Loop, just after the entry station (31-50): SITES ALONG CALOOSAHATCHEE RIVER but view is limited : 32-39. 23 ,24 have a nice view up a waterway. Largest site occupying largest area is on the corner (no real view): 31. Fishing dock, access is between site, 32 and 33, and across from site 51. 44 and 43 are pull throughs, and do not offer as much as other sites regarding location/view. Same with the double back in sites,45 and 46.

SECOND LOOP, furthest from entry station: (1 - 30): #29 has a palm barrier giving picnic side nicer privacy. Sites 21 - 30 are right along the river, all with nice water views. #24- 30 , are the best water view sites. 21,22 and 23 water views up the river are a bit limited due to vegetation on the riverbank up the river. All these sites view the river down to the dam. Sites on the river side have more space between sites than the grassland side, 1-20. Maybe that is so sites on the grassland side can still see the river in between the more spacious sites on the river side. Across from #2,3,4 sites is the access to the dam crossing which accesses the fishing dock on the other side. The corner site, #20, offers the absolute most privacy of any site with a grassland view. (I liked the grassland view sites, but I prefer the water views.)

#1 has a building right behind it which detracts from, but does not eliminate the grassland view.

There are fishing docks on both sides of the Calossahatchee, but I have been told that the fishing on the other side of the river is better. The dam crossing to access the other side is open from 7:30AM untill 4:30PM.

All sites have a covered picnic table .

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground — Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

    Awesome stargazing and wildlife

If you love camping, wildlife, and stargazing but still want the convenience of amenities (i.e electricity, running water, bathroom, shower) then this is the place for you.

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is part of IDA International Dark-Sky Places. The park has little light pollution and also a stargazing pad where you can also camp on.

The campgrounds aren't large but the campsites are good for tents and RVs. The one site we stayed at had water and electric hook-ups and a firepit. We were close to very clean restroom area that also had showers, washer and dryer. They do have primitive campsites for the more rustic individuals. The campgrounds are about 45 minutes from town, but the ranger station sells ice for $2.50 and firewood purchase is by honor system. We also saw other campers with their dogs so pet-friendly as well.

Lots of hiking trails and so much wildlife. We saw deer grazing near our campsite!

Make sure to bring lots of mosquito repellent, especially in the summer months. Otherwise you'll get bit...a lot! But it is Florida after all.

    Barlow's Fish and RV Camp

    Great lil fishing spot

Great lil place. Staff is very friendly. Small clubhouse with laundry, pool table and dart board. Neighbors were great. Mostly long term snowbirds. Few double wide trailers with full timers. Hookups are great. I would recommend.

    Great getaway

Clean, well-maintained campground consisting of 30 spots spread out along the edges of a boomerang-shaped island. All except for 3 sites are waterfront. Sites 22-30 and 8 boat slips are on the South end with a large parking area, boat launch, picnic area, and bath house. On the North end there is a larger bath house and picnic area along with sites 1-21. There are a few drive thru sites (11 & 19-22) and the rest are nicely angled. The concrete parking pads are level and the pea gravel is well tended. All sites have 30/50 amp electric, water, covered picnic table, and fire pit. No sewer at the sites. Dump station near the exit. There isn't much shade due to immature trees and palms. Nice fishing pier and a lending library near the middle. For kayakers the launch ramp is good and some sites on the inland side have good slope and shallow water to launch from directly. Sites facing the river are in the restricted waterway area near the locks so no boats are allowed. This is a nice quiet place to decompress.

Guide to Lake Placid

RV camping near Lake Placid, Florida offers access to central Florida's unique freshwater lakes and citrus grove landscapes. Located in Highlands County at an elevation of 131 feet, the area experiences mild winters with temperatures rarely dropping below 50°F, making it popular for winter camping. Several campgrounds remain open year-round with most sites offering concrete pads suited to larger recreational vehicles.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Josephine RV Resort provides direct lake access with private docks and a boat launch ramp. "Great park right on the lake with its on launch ramp and private docks. Amazing sunset across the lake," notes Mark P., who visited the resort.

Shark teeth hunting: Visitors to Thousand Trails Peace River can search for prehistoric shark teeth along the riverbanks. "I found a ton of shark teeth," reports Jennifer L., who adds that the park office provides wire mesh baskets to help with the search.

Antique shopping: Day trips to nearby Arcadia offer antiquing opportunities. According to Garry S., who stayed at Encore Toby's, "Arcadia is where one can easily spend the day between the murals on many buildings to downtown where there are a ton of collectable and antique shops, including the 'haunted' Opera house as seen on ghost hunters."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many Lake Placid area campgrounds maintain well-kept bathroom and shower facilities. Steven A. from Lake Josephine RV Resort mentions, "This place has everything you would need to enjoy your trip. Showers, laundry, dog park, game room etc."

Spacious sites: Campers appreciate the generous spacing between sites at some parks. At NOFO GROVES Getaway, guests enjoy extra privacy on a working citrus nursery. Dana H. describes it as a "Very beautiful, quite and peaceful location for camping out."

Recreation options: On-site amenities keep campers entertained without leaving the grounds. Thomas E. from Thousand Trails Peace River notes, "Good bicycle paths walking trails, canoeing fishing and actually quite in the evenings on the eastern side of the grounds, everything is well maintained."

What you should know

Seasonal crowding: Winter months bring higher occupancy rates, especially January through March. One visitor to Brighton RV Resort mentioned a major development project: "A new casino is being built beginning Summer 2023 with expected completion in 2025. We were told the majority of the campsites and cabins will house the construction workers for the casino project."

Site assignment systems: Some parks use uncommon methods for assigning full-hookup sites. Daniel B. explains that at Thousand Trails Peace River, "Lots are not first come first served the do a lottery no matter what time you arrive, first it was at noon, then moved to 1, then to 2."

Weather considerations: Heavy rains can create flooding issues at certain campgrounds. Laura H. warns about Peace River: "Many large rigs were parked in the flood plane which encompasses a large section of the park," adding "We have seen Class As sink, so if you have a heavy diesel pusher, make sure you find a spot safe for your RV."

Tips for camping with families

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Kids enjoy spotting local wildlife at several campgrounds. Jennifer L. notes about Thousand Trails Peace River: "Loved the oak hammock camp grounds," where visitors can observe alligators along the riverbanks.
