Best RV Parks & Resorts near Julesburg, CO

Several RV parks dot the I-80 corridor near Julesburg, Colorado, providing convenient options for motorhome travelers. Pony Express RV Park, located in Julesburg itself, offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service and is designed to accommodate big rigs. Just 30 miles west in Sidney, Nebraska, Cabela's RV Park & Campground provides year-round access with level gravel sites, full hookups, and a convenient first-come, first-served policy. "Clean campground, level gravel sites. Easy on and off to I80, but road noise as a result all day and night," notes one RV camper about the nearby Ogallala KOA. Oregon Trail RV Campground in Lewellen features 16 pull-through sites on grass with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options, making it suitable for various RV sizes.

Most RV parks in the region maintain pet-friendly policies, though specific restrictions may apply. Cell service varies by location, with travelers reporting strong Verizon signals at Cabela's RV Park but more limited coverage at other sites. Dump stations are available at most parks, including Creekside RV Park in Chappell and Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area, though the latter's facilities are located several miles from the campground. Summer brings higher occupancy rates, particularly at parks near Lake McConaughy, so advance reservations are recommended during peak season. Highway proximity provides easy access for RVs of all sizes, though this convenience sometimes comes with road noise. Utility hookups generally function well, though water pressure can vary significantly between parks, with some travelers noting the need to supplement with onboard pumps during peak usage times.

    Ogallala/I-80 KOA Journey

    Clean, convenient, highway noise

Clean campground, level gravel sites. Easy on and off to I80, but road noise as a result all day and night. Verizon cell signal was strong. Clean bathrooms and showers. Laundry available. Playground for kids, dog park for furry friends. Most sites are in open, a handful of sites had limited shade. Campground itself was quiet. Staff was friendly, staff escorts you to your site and directs you in. Garbage dumpster across from bathhouse. Small store in main building.

    Lone Eagle Campground

Campground on beautiful lake with white sandy beaches

Lone Eagle Campground is a mostly full hookup campground on the north shore of Lake McConaughy, Nebraska’s largest reservoir, located at the edge of Nebraska’s Sandhills. The entire shoreline of the lake consists of fine white sand beaches and the water is clean and clear.

We camped here in our 39’ travel trailer in a back-in, full hook up site. The water spigot is equipped with a splitter and is shared by two spots. The water pressure was so low that our water pump came on constantly when we used the water, even though we did not have a neighbor hooked up to our spigot.

Our 50 Amp power was good and the sewer hookup was fine. We had a view of the lake but because of the water being low, it is about 1 or 2 city block distance to the water. There were many sticker burrs in the grassy areas.

The bathhouse was not very clean but it is used by many people just here for day use activities. The showers are pay, 2 tokens for $1.00 and each token lasts 2 minutes. We did not have to use the showers. There is a playground for the kids and a couple large recycle containers, one for plastic and one for cardboard. The trash dumpsters are near the bathhouse.

We had 1 to 2 bars AT&T and they advertise Wifi but you have to pay for it.

This lake is lovely and the campground would be best enjoyed if you have a boat or jet ski.

    Cabela's RV Park & Campground

    Nice campground

At the site of Cabella’s headquarters as well as the site of the original Cabella’s store.

The campground does not take reservations. It’s first-come, first-served. You drive in and find a site, then go to a cashier in the store to register.

Approximately $40 for a 50amp FHU site with grass, a table, and a grill. Sites are level with gravel pads. They also have sites with electric only and a tent area. Showers are clean, as well as the laundry room.

Big rig friendly, but arrive around 3pm since the place fills up fast later in the day.

Note: cable is good with about 60 clear channels. AT&T phone signal is poor here.

    Ogallala/I-80 KOA Journey

    One of the Nicer KOAs

We received a text the day prior welcoming us and asking us not to arrive before 1:00 PM Mountain Time plus let them know our estimated arrival time. This campground is just across the Mountain time zone as you head West. There were also instructions on where to park. We were met outside as we arrived and check-in was quick. We were escorted to a standard pull-through site 35 with FHUs. The first thing we noticed was how immaculate the campground(CG) was kept. Our site was plenty long enough for our 40’ 5th wheel and our F450. The utilities are in the middle with two sewer choices(nice!). The water pressure was good at around 50 psi. We were told at check-in that the Wifi was good enough to stream so we did not put out our Starlink for this overnighter and the Wifi performed well. We got 4 bars on Verizon. The sites are well-spaced especially for a KOA and their premium sites are really nice. Along with the regular fenced dog areas, they have several K-9 sites with private fenced dog areas. The CG is right off I-80, so you will have highway noise. Have to say this is one of the better laid out and managed KOA Journeys we’ve stayed. We would definitely stay here again.

    Days Inn and RV Park

    Not fancy but appreciated

Due to a communication mixup we had no reservation as we were traveling through on a Friday night. We saw this on the Dyrt map and pulled in. It’s a combo gas station, convenience store, hotel, and campground. It has full hookups with several gravel pull-through sites. It is not fancy but sites are level and price is right at 22.50 and the owner was nice. There are a few grills beside a little fishing lake, no picnic tables, and a fair amount of highway noise. We ran our fan all night though and didn’t hear anything.

    Cabela's RV Park & Campground

    Clean Full Service Site

Very clean, first-come, first-served grounds for RV/Camper/Tent. Coin laundry services. Clean bathroom and showers. Right next to the Cabela’s store, within walking distance to food, coffee, Walmart. It is, however, right next to a major highway, so it is very loud.

Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area Campground

Rating based on view from camper

East campground Electric Plus Site. Looking for the plus. No RV fill/dump station. Water spigot available. Bath house with pay showers. Daily entry fee (had to purchase on internet), fill/dump station a few miles up the road to the big lake. Just not convenient. Host on site, but sign says off duty, and haven’t seen them. Several piles of dog poop on site and we didn’t bring a dog. Site does have a fire pit, picnic table and a good view of the lake. Not worth what an out of stater had to pay traveling through.

    Oregon Trail RV Campground

    Luke- The Lifesaver!

We can’t say enough great things about Oregon Trail RV Park! While traveling through the area with our dogs, we had planned to stay at Lake McConaughy, but the campgrounds there weren’t as dog-friendly as advertised during the off-season. Thankfully, Luke, the owner of Oregon Trail RV Park, stepped in at the last minute and gave us a place to stay. This park was exactly what we needed—easy to find, impeccably maintained, and truly welcoming to both us and our pets. The RV spaces were clean and spacious, with plenty of room for our dogs to enjoy themselves. Luke’s friendly and accommodating attitude made the experience stress-free, which is priceless when you’re on the road. If you’re in the Lake McConaughy area and looking for a quiet, pet-friendly RV park with excellent service, look no further. Oregon Trail RV Park is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back!

Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area Campground

    Shady Retreat from the Lake

This campsite is beautiful - a nice quiet lake with fishing & kayaking, shady spot with electric hookup, and a pretty nice fire pit. Huge cottonwoods surround us with birds chirping into the evening & the crickets singing at night. No water hookups at the site but there is water available - though not a RV fill/dump station. Paid showers available. A great retreat after a day on Lake Mac, which is right next door. No quiet hours on Saturday night. Worth it for the water access to Lake Ogallala!

Guide to Julesburg

The area surrounding Julesburg, Colorado features diverse terrain with elevations ranging from 3,500 to 4,000 feet and generally mild summers ideal for camping. Located at the northeastern corner of Colorado near the Nebraska border, this region serves as a gateway to the High Plains with camping options along both sides of Interstate 80. Campers can expect level sites predominantly on grassy or gravel surfaces with limited natural shade due to the prairie landscape.

What to do

Visit historical landmarks nearby: Campers staying at Cabela's RV Park & Campground can take advantage of proximity to regional historical sites. "Chimney Rock is a landmark that rises high above the prairie and was a landmark for those traveling the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trail. Chimney Rock historic site is only 60 miles from the Cabela's campground," notes one reviewer who recommends the educational museum experience.

Explore small towns: The rural communities around rv sites near Julesburg, Colorado offer authentic small-town experiences. "Within walking distance of a couple of bars and grills and a bowling alley, so make sure to check them out," writes a camper about their stay at Creekside RV Park in Chappell.

Fish at Lake Ogallala: The recreation area provides excellent fishing opportunities. "Morning catfishing right off the banks is excellent!" reports one visitor to Lake Ogallala State Recreation Area Campground. The smaller lake offers a quieter alternative to nearby Lake McConaughy with campsites positioned close to prime fishing spots.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Travelers consistently mention the upkeep of campgrounds in the region. At Oregon Trail RV Campground, one reviewer noted it was "very well maintained, no trash, mowed down, everything worked... the owner was a really nice guy and cared how the stay was going."

Convenience to I-80: Easy highway access makes rv camping near Julesburg, Colorado practical for travelers. "We needed a stop for overnight and this was perfect. The owners were very nice and the place is very clean. We used full hookups and it was perfect for what we needed. It is close to I-80 for easy access," explains a camper about their Creekside RV Park experience.

Dog-friendly accommodations: Many campgrounds welcome pets with dedicated facilities. One camper at Ogallala KOA (formerly Sleepy Sunflower RV Park) highlighted: "Impeccably clean and well taken care of campground. Lilacs were in full bloom. Super easy to access from the highway. Close to several restaurants, gas stations, and a WalMart. Most impressive were the facilities for dogs."

What you should know

Reservation policies vary: Some rv sites near Julesburg, Colorado operate on a first-come, first-served basis. A reviewer at Pony Express RV Park noted they "had a travel day and needed to have full hookups. They delivered. Internet was no problem."

Highway noise considerations: Road noise can be noticeable at campgrounds close to I-80. "Clean facilities, affordable overnight, playground but the road noise from 80 is very loud," warns a camper about their Cabela's RV Park experience.

Limited tent camping options: Several parks primarily accommodate RVs with fewer tent sites. "We pulled in and asked the man in the golf car for a spot. He informed us 'No Tents.' He failed to mention we could tent camp in the city park across the creek," reported one Creekside RV Park visitor who discovered an alternative at Pony Express Park.

Weather conditions: Strong winds and seasonal storms can impact camping experiences. A camper at Lake Ogallala described: "Real calm at dusk on this reservoir, it picked up real fast into a certified windstorm by 2AM when I felt like my tent was about to be blown away into oblivion."

Tips for camping with families

Also both Verizon and AT&T service here was very good," after discovering the campground's proximity to Ash Hollow and Oregon Trail sites.

Check for bathroom facilities: Restroom and shower access varies between campgrounds. "Bathrooms were clean. Camp is noisy due to I-80 is 1/4 mile away...u can see headlights at nite on your tent walls," reports a camper about their experience at Cabela's RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Check hookup positioning: At some rv sites near Julesburg, Colorado, connections may require extra planning. One RVer at Oregon Trail RV Campground advised: "Since the sewer is on the north side of each site, you may have to run your hose under the camper or use the sewer hookup in the lot next to you, if no one is parked there."

Plan for water use: Water hookup quality varies across the region. "Full hookups for $45. Clean facilities and well maintained grounds. Sprinklers turn on at 9:30 so don't leave anything out," warns a visitor to Ogallala KOA about their evening sprinkler system.

Consider your site needs: Different rv sites around Julesburg offer varying levels of amenities. "Options for full hookups, electric only, or simply parking in the parking lot. Full hookup ~$40 depending on your discounts. Nice simple town with decent food options. Great stop on the way to WY," explains a camper describing Cabela's RV Park.
