Near the lake and nice views

What can you say that has it already been said about lake McConaughey? This place is huge and there's so many options to camp. I'm glad that we decided to camp off of the Beach area due to reports of many people getting stuck in the sand. We went the weekend after Labor Day and it was very nice with very few people. The campgrounds are fairly well spread out for privacy

Great CG

Awesome location. Take note. Water is shared and not at every site. Bring several hoses as it’s 40 - 50 feet away

Was beautiful

Ok so first off this was a pretty site BUT... we had a tent. There was some kind of thorny thing all over the ground it mad it very hard for my kids to play or even have a blowup mattress. It literally stuck into everything. If you had a camper it was a great spot. If your camping in a tent would not recommend this site at all. Also you have to pay with your showers with tokens 1 token is 2 mins worth. It was not worth the money to me to stay here.

Beautiful area

It is an SRA campground but has full hookup. Beautiful view of Lake McConaughey. Sites in Lone Eagle are not right on lake. Sites are large with great areas to have dogs. Cool breeze coming up off lake even though it was in the 90's today. After 2 nights in travel campgrounds ( they were great for that purpose)...this is back to nature. Love it. Word of caution though...there are sand burrs in some of the grass. If you have pups, watch out for those. They were not too bad.

Campground on beautiful lake with white sandy beaches

Lone Eagle Campground is a mostly full hookup campground on the north shore of Lake McConaughy, Nebraska’s largest reservoir, located at the edge of Nebraska’s Sandhills. The entire shoreline of the lake consists of fine white sand beaches and the water is clean and clear.

We camped here in our 39’ travel trailer in a back-in, full hook up site. The water spigot is equipped with a splitter and is shared by two spots. The water pressure was so low that our water pump came on constantly when we used the water, even though we did not have a neighbor hooked up to our spigot.

Our 50 Amp power was good and the sewer hookup was fine. We had a view of the lake but because of the water being low, it is about 1 or 2 city block distance to the water. There were many sticker burrs in the grassy areas.

The bathhouse was not very clean but it is used by many people just here for day use activities. The showers are pay, 2 tokens for $1.00 and each token lasts 2 minutes. We did not have to use the showers. There is a playground for the kids and a couple large recycle containers, one for plastic and one for cardboard. The trash dumpsters are near the bathhouse.

We had 1 to 2 bars AT&T and they advertise Wifi but you have to pay for it.

This lake is lovely and the campground would be best enjoyed if you have a boat or jet ski.

White sandy beaches

It was really early in the season, mid April, and too cold (snow) for most, so the campground was empty. The madern bathhouse wasn't open yet, but pit toilets were available. Showers are by tokens (aka paid ). Everything was clean. Sites could have been more level, but they are doable. Picnic tables at each site. Prices are $34 plus daily pass of $6/$8 resident/nonresident. Nice playground for the kiddos. If you are tenting or car camping, there are miles of dispersed camping right on the beach for only $12 night. Beautiful white sandy beaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Lone Eagle Campground located at Lake McConaughy?

Lone Eagle Campground is situated on the north shore of Lake McConaughy, Nebraska's largest reservoir. The campground is positioned at the edge of Nebraska's picturesque Sandhills region. The location offers beautiful views of the lake, which is known for its fine white sand beaches and clean, clear water. The shoreline setting provides a cool breeze from the lake, making it a pleasant spot even during hot summer days.

Is there a map available for Lone Eagle Campground?

While specific map availability isn't detailed, Lone Eagle Campground has a straightforward layout with an inner and outer loop of campsites. The outer loop sites face the water, offering lake views. For the most current and detailed map, contact the Nebraska State Recreation Area (SRA) management office directly or check the official Nebraska Game and Parks Commission website, as they oversee this campground and typically provide maps for their facilities.

Do I need reservations for camping at Lone Eagle Campground?

Lone Eagle Campground operates with a mixed reservation system. Half of the campground is available on a first-come, first-served basis, while the other half requires reservations. This hybrid approach gives both planners and spontaneous campers options. During peak summer months, securing reservations for the reservable sites is recommended, especially on weekends. In contrast, during off-season periods like early spring, the campground may be much less crowded, making first-come, first-served sites more readily available.

What RV facilities are available at Lone Eagle Campground?

Lone Eagle Campground offers excellent facilities for RV campers. Most sites feature full hookups with water, power, and sewer connections. Water hookups are shared between sites and may be 40-50 feet away, so bringing extra-long hoses is advisable. The sites could be more level but are manageable for RVs. The campground also includes a modern bathhouse (seasonally operated), with paid showers available using tokens. For tent campers, be aware that the ground may have thorny vegetation, making it less ideal than for RVs. The large sites provide ample space for RV camping with pets.
