Coffee Pot Upper Lookout N Facing

Pretty sweet 230+ degree view from west to east (roughly). North facing slope behind me and not too much wind! Only seen one car since 7 and only 3 other people on the long road! Pretty solid little two truck site!

limited VIP spots at deeP creek, pull offs great for sleep-in-car setups.

after no spots around the creek, this mountain road gave me the creeps driving up, it is so steep and loose dirt, and the cliff on your side... FR,

I found one great spot after turning around and heading back down...  that lead down into alarge 6 person group sight, away from the views of the cliff on the other side of the road

I camped in my tent, cause my sedan is too tiny to sleep in, (I've tried)

Dispersed road side camping

Tried to camp at Deep Creek but had no luck with the very limited spots. If you keep driving up the road there’s about a dozen spots off the road; none very nice but are a free place to stay with great views.

Frequently Asked Questions

What road conditions should I expect when accessing Coffee Pot Road for camping?

Coffee Pot Road presents challenging driving conditions. The road is steep with loose dirt surfaces that can be difficult to navigate, especially for less experienced drivers. One side of the road features drop-offs that may be concerning for some. Four-wheel drive or high-clearance vehicles are recommended. The road can feel particularly intimidating when encountering traffic in the opposite direction due to its narrowness. Despite these challenges, the road provides access to dispersed camping spots with exceptional views. Traffic is typically light, with few vehicles traveling the route throughout the day.

What's the difference between Coffee Pot Road dispersed camping and Coffee Pot Spring Campground?

Coffee Pot Road dispersed camping offers free, undeveloped sites scattered along a mountain road with minimal amenities but spectacular panoramic views. These sites vary in size and quality, with some accommodating small parties and others suitable for groups up to six people. In contrast, Coffee Pot Spring Campground is a more established camping area likely with designated sites, possibly some basic amenities like vault toilets, and potentially fees for overnight stays. The dispersed options on Coffee Pot Road provide more solitude and flexibility but require self-sufficiency, while the established campground would offer more structure and potentially easier access.

What are the rules and regulations for dispersed camping on Coffee Pot Road?

Dispersed camping on Coffee Pot Road follows standard Forest Service regulations for undeveloped sites. Camping is free but limited to 14 consecutive days. Pack out all trash and practice Leave No Trace principles. Fire restrictions may apply seasonally, so always check current conditions before your trip. Camping is only permitted in established sites that show previous use—look for cleared areas with fire rings. Stay at least 100 feet from water sources like Deep Creek. Sites accommodate various group sizes, from small two-vehicle spots to larger areas that can host up to six people. Remember that no amenities are provided, so come prepared with all necessary supplies.

Where is Coffee Pot Road dispersed camping located in Colorado?

Coffee Pot Road dispersed camping is located in Colorado's White River National Forest region. The area features mountain terrain with impressive panoramic views spanning approximately 230 degrees from west to east. The camping spots are situated along a forest road that winds through the mountains, with some sites positioned on north-facing slopes. While specific geographic markers aren't prominent, the area is near Deep Creek, though the dispersed sites are typically found farther up the mountain road beyond the creek area.
