Best RV Parks & Resorts near Upper Lake, CA

Several RV parks and resorts populate the Clear Lake region near Upper Lake. The Aurora RV Park & Marina in Nice offers lakeside spots with water and electric hookups, though spaces between units can be tight. Konocti Vista RV Park in Lakeport provides full hookups including 50-amp service for larger rigs, with pull-through rv pads available for easier parking. Thousand Trails Russian River in Cloverdale features 30-amp hookups with water connections but no sewer at individual sites. Sandpiper RV Park and Holiday Harbor RV Park, both situated along Lakeshore Boulevard in Nice, offer water and sewer connections. "Very tight squeeze—the lakeside spots require backing in. If your neighbor has a slider you are wall to wall," noted one camper about The Aurora.

Road access varies significantly throughout the region, with some routes presenting challenges for larger motorhomes. The approach to certain lakeside parks involves narrow, winding roads that may be difficult for vehicles over 34 feet. Dump stations are available at The Aurora RV Park, Konocti Vista, and Thousand Trails Russian River. Most parks in the area remain open year-round, though amenities like showers and restrooms vary considerably in quality and availability. Many RV sites around Clear Lake permit pets, but policies differ regarding breed restrictions and leash requirements. Summer temperatures frequently exceed 90°F, making electrical hookups important for air conditioning. Cell service is generally reliable near populated areas but may become spotty in more remote locations between towns.

Letts Lake Campground — Mendocino National Forest

    Dry Campig for 35' RV

We originally were going to Fouts Creek Campground but it was HOV weekend (Presidents). Lots of dirt bikes and law enforcement. National Forest pulled in officers from surrounding forests and Sheriff Depts.

With a 35' Class A our options were limited. A Ranger suggested Letts Lake. There is a narrow one lane newly paved road that goes up to Dixie Glade equestrian camp, from there it is dirt. Taking it slow, we made it to Letts Lake and parked in spot 12. It was a tight fit, but we made it.

There are two additional campgrounds at the opposite end of the lake but they are closed for winter. As there was no water or trash service there was no fee. Typically $5.00)

The lake is small with no motors allowed but easy to walk around. Pet friendly in fact all but one campsite had at least one dog.  Fire damage to the forest is substantial but new growth is already starting

    Middle Creek Campground

    Great place for dry camping

Beautiful location, campground was easily accessible going up Elk Mountain Road. Camped in Site 11, pull through, no hook ups, nice picnic table, grill and fire pit. Vault toilets, no showers. There is potable water close to the campsites. Very quiet during the week, it did get noisier on the weekends, but everyone settled down for the evening.

    Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort

Great for families with little ones

We stopped here overnight on our way up the coast. Well maintained, nice facility and friendly staff. Definitely wouldn’t come back for long term camping as we have older teenagers. The facility is definitely geared toward families with smaller kids. It was great for what we needed.

    Casini Ranch Family Campground

    Our go to camp ground

You are not roughing it here. Stayed many times over Covid and loved it. I have stayed in premium sites and in full hook up sites. Premiums are my favorites. They only have power and water but they are more isolated in the trees rather than a long row of RVs. All sites have cable TV and good Rudy from my experience. Fire puts when allowed by California. Russian River gets surprisingly warm during the summer.

    Gualala Point Regional Park

    Small but beautiful county campground

General: 19 general and six walk-in campsites among giant redwood and Bay Laurel trees on the Gualala River. Sites 17 & 18 are a double site.

Site Quality: Level sites with bear box, picnic table, and fire ring. Site One’s camper pad fit our 18-foot camper van, but it would not accommodate anything much larger. Several other camper pads looked short as well. No hookups.

Bath/Shower house: Three individual units with toilet, sink, soap, and paper towels. One shower that takes quarters – three minutes for $2.00.

Activities: There is a trail that leads through the walk-in sites, under Highway One, and to the beach, approximately 1.5 miles. You can also drive to the day-use area for a shorter walk. We were there on a weekday but there were many activities scheduled for the upcoming weekend including kayaking on Bodega Bay, outside yoga, and healthy hustle circuit training – I was sad to miss all of these options.

This campground is beautiful and peaceful. But note that although we did not encounter any, several other campers experienced over-eager raccoons while eating dinner. There was also a sign warning of mountain lions but we did not encounter any. Shout-out to the ranger who shared a lot of good information about the area.

    Stillwater Cove Regional Park

    Great Family Spot

    Mellow campground. Well maintained.

The trailhead to the beach or a forest hike is right next to the overflow parking lot.

The beach is rocky and not suitable for swimming but there were lots of people fishing.

The hikes are simply gorgeous and no one was on the trail despite a full campground.

A good mix of small travel trailers and tent camping.

Firewood is available. The water is not suitable for drinking due to e.Coli.

There are no first come first serve sites, or ability to take unreserved sites and everything must be reserved using the site. This was frustrating because empty sites went unused and the camp host was unwilling to let anyone use them lest someone made a last second online reservation.

We camped at site 15. It was nice and fit a 18ft travel trailer perfectly. It was not a back in site so our trailer was a great privacy wall against the road and there were nice trees on the other side. A small berm blocked the other site on either side.

We found a HUGE tick in my daughters hair so check yourselves.

The dump station started to back up about halfway through dumping our gray water, so beware. I notified the ranger and he was pretty nonchalant about it.

Others reviews say they didn’t have cell but we have AT&T’s and had good coverage

    Hendy Woods State Park Campground

    Family Freindly Redwood Camping

Spacious sites with fire pit, wooden food box and picnic table. Potable water available at spigots along the roads every 3-4 campgrounds. The campground has restrooms with sinks (bring your own soap), flush toilets, coin operated showers. Campground ha easy access to hiking, swimming in the river, and wine tasting just up the road. There a local produce stands just up the road where you can expect to buy tasty Gravenstien apples if you visit in August! Mosquitoes are present so bring bug spray! If you forget anything, there is a Mom and Pop store up the road that sells almost everything you need including batteries, tableclothes, butane, ice and firewood for about $6 a bundle. The campground host sells firewood for $8 a bundle. Campsites are for 8 people maximum. Even with 8 people, we didn't feel cramped. Sites come with 2 parking passes. If you have more than two cars in your party, you can pay for additional parking passes. Dog friendly! I was the only person in my group to have cell service here and I have Verizon.

    Anchor Bay Campground

    Accident turned into success

Me and my buddy Kevin were just taking a night to go explore and planned to stay in the ocean cove campground only to find it was closed for the season. So we drove down the road and found the anchor bay campground. I myself had a tent and my buddy Kevin sleeps in his truck. Beautiful scenery around the campground as it lays right in the edge of the ocean, instant walk to the beach. The sites themselves are relatively small but all have water spouts, lunch tables, and fire pits. Good level gravel campsites and a very friendly staff as well! Some have electrical and some other things but I’m just referring to our site. Very fairly priced. Gets windy during the day and very damp at night so plan accordingly. There is a store within 5 minute walking distance to the campground. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A COOL NEW PLACE TO STAY A NIGHT OR TWO!

Quiet atmosphere: Some RV sites near Upper Lake, California offer more peaceful settings. "It was nice and quiet, the showers were awesome never ran out of hot water and the management fantastic," says Melissa O. about Mirabel RV Park, which features shaded sites and reliable facilities.

What you should know

Site spacing: Many RV parks in the area have limited space between units. At Thousand Trails Russian River, "Sites are close. Some don't even have area for chairs or picnic tables," notes John N. Another camper mentions, "Spaces are all 30 amp with no sewer hookups. Many spaces are very narrow/tight and uphill from your neighbor."

Highway noise: Some campgrounds experience traffic disturbance. River Bend Resort has "great Russian River wine country location and is next to the Russian River pub. And campground overall is average, so long as you're on the outer rim. Interior RV sites seem to be full-time residents and very cramped," reports Beverly W., adding "the traffic noise is considerable."

Facility maintenance: Bathroom and shower facilities vary significantly between parks. "The womens shower was so-so clean but there was hair left in the drains and on the walls (ick). One shower in the mens bathroom had no hot water," reports Julie T. about The Aurora RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Redwood Empire Fair RV Park hosts regular events at the fairgrounds. "Fair grounds with stock car racing on Saturday night, a little noisy until 10:00, but did not really notice it much inside RV," says Steve. Swimming options: River access provides natural swimming holes during summer months. "Nice little rv park. They offer FREE canoe/paddle boating," mentions one camper. Another notes, "Love waking up by the river. The staff are very kind and fair."

Private camping sites: Look for locations that offer more privacy. "We camped in tents along with many other campers choosing tents. Not noisy or busy at all, maybe it would be during summer peak times. Each site has a table, fire pit, and even outlets which was a nice surprise. Tons of trees so every site has plenty of shade," reports Jordan L.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: RV sites around Upper Lake offer different utility connections. Konocti Vista RV Park provides full hookups including 50-amp service and pull-through sites, while others have more limited options. "Sites are $37 with Good Sam discount. Each site has 30 amp service, water, sewer hookups. Gravel sites with small patches of grass," notes one RVer about Redwood Empire Fair RV Park.

Site selection: Choose locations based on specific needs. "Drive extremely slow. Roads and turns are very narrow. Some spots are inclined in a way that your hind end may really scrape the ground/asphalt. There are grooves in the road everywhere it is common," warns Derek & Alex W. about narrow access at Thousand Trails.

Services available: Dump stations and utility connections vary between parks. "There's no laundry room you have to go to a laundromat they have washer and dryers outside of the bathrooms but they're not very convenient," reports Bambi K. Another camper notes, "No sewer but they do have a dumping station and a honey pot service for $35 so we took advantage of that."
