Cache Creek Regional Park Campground

Cache Creek Regional Park Campground operates year-round with reservations available for $35 per night, accommodating RVs up to 200 feet and offering both drive-in and walk-in access. The county-managed facility sits within Cache Creek Canyon Regional Park, providing flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and a dump station alongside standard amenities like picnic tables and fire rings.

The campground spreads across forested terrain with Cache Creek running alongside the camping area. Melanie M. notes the site "has plenty of campground shade running water in bathrooms" and mentions that "days are hot nights cool off enough to sleep comfortably." Several campers report elk sightings, particularly in early morning hours when the animals come to drink from the creek. The brush and tall grass surrounding sites harbor various wildlife including lizards and snakes, so visitors should remain aware of their surroundings.

Creek access draws many visitors, though crossing requires some planning since there's no bridge. Some campers pile rocks to create makeshift crossings for hiking access to the hills beyond. The facility includes four toilets and a dish washing station, with firewood available for purchase. Camp hosts vary by season, which can influence the overall experience according to long-term visitors.

Highway 16 runs nearby, creating occasional road noise from passing traffic, though most nights remain relatively quiet. The campground tends to fill during summer months, particularly favored spots, so advance reservations help secure preferred sites. Gavin L. points out there's "no dispersed camping" at this location, distinguishing it from free options available nearby. For campers wanting a different experience, Cowboy Camp offers primitive camping just six miles north.

Guests frequently mentioned clean facilities and peaceful creek-side setting with good privacy. Some confusion exists about pricing and exact location, with mixed terrain conditions requiring preparation for wildlife and brush.

Nature solace

I pulled in here for the night and found I was completely alone. Except I kept hearing splashing in the creek. I wasn't alone - there was a herd of Elk. Super cool. This is a great spot for a short stay. No real 'sites' but a pleasant spot in the middle of the Cache Creek Natural Area.

This site cost $35 per vehicle. There is no dispersed camping. The free camping is a few minutes north on the same road. Its just before the T intersection. The free camping will be called cowboy camp.

Perfect night for free !

This was the perfect spot to rest for a night. We arrived rather late and there was only one RV already there. There are plenty spots so we had our privacy, toilets were clean and it’s next to a road but there isn’t much traffic. Really calm and nice!

A good quick stop to sleep for free

This is a small area, surrounded by a few trees and low rolling hills. It does have put toilets, and is a good dry camp while on the way somewhere else.

Cowboy Camp!

First off of your looking for this spot it is COWBOY CAMP! The directions take you 8 miles away to campground you have to pay for. We stopped here on our way home from Mt. Shasta. It was very quiet. Bathrooms were clean. There were 4 other people pulled over for the night. Plenty of space for everyone.

Free, beautiful, not too busy

BLM land, can camp anywhere >500 feet from the parking lot. The site in in a valley between a small creek (that runs right next to the roadway) and a small mountain “range” on the opposing side. We were the only tent campers there on Friday and one additional camper came Sat. Bring lots of bug spray and watch for ticks but super worth it especially if you’re local

What could I say.

I mean We have been going to this campground for 21 years now, every year is a different experience, meaning the camp hosts, they can make it a great experience or not, besides that it’s a beautiful campground to stay, it has plenty of campground shade running water in bathrooms, has coin showers and dish washing station. The days are hot nights cool off enough to sleep comfortably. On a side note if your favorite spot reserve in February for the summer months.

COWBOY CAMP

Camped mid-May 2018. Mostly dry land/brush. Prickers everywhere. Tall grass, ticks, black widows, lizards, rattles and gardner snakes. 14-day BLM campground literally 5 minutes down the road from CalFire. Four toilets. No water, just creek running between campground and hills. Have to use horse or find low section and pile rocks as a ‘bridge’ to cross for hiking. Fire pits and horse poles. Mostly quiet unless a big rig drives by on the highway or people loudly pull off HWY 16 to use the toilet. Great spot to semi-rough it.
