    Waterfront RV Park

    Waterfront RV Park, CA

Located in Huntington Beach California. This site is right across the street from the beach. Be careful and aware when staying here. My husband and I had our mountain bikes stolen when sleeping. When we asked for camera footage the owners of the campground claimed the cameras were broken and they couldn’t share the footage. There are many homeless folks living in the area. The showers don’t get hot, but the area is clean. There is a pool and a hot tub and a small dog park. It’s expensive to stay here, but a beautiful spot.

    Hollywood RV Park

    Themed Park!

First of all, staff was amazing. We were originally supposed to arrive on a Tuesday and we’re not able to make it. Staff shifted our reservation instead of us eating the missed night cost. Also super accommodating allowing us to extend a day longer last minute. Park is tight quarters with 200 spots. Two laundry rooms/bathrooms with showers on site, plus a cute little dog park! We stayed for three nights. Every “road” in the park is themed with California or Hollywood themed decorations and murals. We were parked right next to a Mister Roger’s mural across from the laundry/bathrooms. My only complaint in the noise level at times which is not from the park itself. Helicopters would fly over randomly, sometimes at night and it could be annoying when trying to sleep. Otherwise, absolute GEM of a place!

    Hare School Park

It’s the sports fields parking lot

I’ve been here for a couple days and nobody’s mess with us. There’s other people that are staying in another parking lot attached that are homeless in their vehicles mostly cars and vans. I’m in a 25 foot Fleetwood RV. There’s a dog park kind of area with a big field they can run around and just clean up after them. There’s no public bathrooms, but there are trash cans so clean up after yourself please. It’s not tent friendly. I don’t believe.

Anaheim RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Disney Camping - Clean, Pool, Very Nice Restrooms/Showers

Anaheim RV Resort is close to Disney and is on the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus route. They have full hook up sites and room for large rigs - back-in and pull through. They are very pet friendly and even have a dog walking/feeding service (for an extra fee). There is a small pool and hot tub. The restrooms/showers and newly remodeled and very nice! Sites are all level and fairly large. We've stayed here 4 times and will be back again!

    Bonita Ranch Campground

    Loved this spot!!

A little gem hiding out in Lytle Creek! Easy access to a pretty trail right behind the campground. Very quiet and interspersed with long time stayers and temporary campers. I stayed in my van and had my cat and dog with me. Campfire wood was easily available and had its own picnic table. Beautiful scenery and we even got a dusting of snow! I stayed two nights while in town for work and it was perfect.

Rolling M. Ranch Campground — Chino Hills State Park

    Beautifully scenic area

Sprawling lush green hills? Can’t beat Chino Hills State Park.
The campground itself feels very close together and wide open compared to the space of the park. Gets loud at night if there are too many groups camping. No cell service. Super clean bathrooms and showers.

PET OWNERS BEWARE: Our dog munched on a frog at this campsite and started foaming at the mouth. We rinsed her mouth out with water and she turned out fine, but a smaller dog or a swallowed frog and she could have died from toxicity.

    Lake Campground

Acceptable last minute camping, not great, not terrible.

    Pros: Large campsites

              Clean-ish toilets

              Lake within walking distance

    Cons: Right near highway, noisy

Lots of flies during the day

               tent sites are very flat

Last minute trip and decided to check out Lake Campground. There are 8 sites placed on this hilly area, with a vault toilet in the center of the campground. It is located right next to the highway, so it can be pretty noisy during the day as its a popular route for motorcyclists. The campground itself was fairly clean, and all the sites were very large and spaced well away from each other. The sites weren't very flat, so options to set your tent up were very limited. Some sites had some shade, others almost none. There were tons of flies, very active during the daytime, but went away during the evening. The vault toilets were the cleanest I'd seen (For vault toilets) and the staff came through the campgrounds several times a day.

Jackson Lake is a short walk from the campgrounds. It has a nice day use picnic area with coal grills, picnic benches, and four vault toilets (in pretty poor condition). The lake was pretty small and had a stagnant smell to it. Lots of people were fishing, and a few people waded into the waters. I saw people in rafts / kayaks later in the day. The area was covered in fleas so careful with pets.

Guide to South Gate

Camping options near South Gate, California concentrate along coastal areas and within military facilities. The region's mild Mediterranean climate supports year-round camping, with average temperatures ranging from 57°F in winter to 75°F in summer. Urban campgrounds provide convenient access to Los Angeles attractions while coastal sites offer ocean proximity despite the area's substantial urban development.

What to do

Beach activities: 15 miles west at Dockweiler Beach RV Park provides direct beach access with fire rings for evening gatherings. "The park is right next to the beach, walk 1 minute and you're there. There's also a bike path that goes for miles both north or south - great for an early workout," notes Ignasi M.

Biking trails: Access extensive coastal paths from multiple campgrounds. At Waterfront RV Park in Huntington Beach, campers can "ride bikes along the bike path through Huntington, and went for daily walks as well," shares Zach R. The paved trails connect numerous beach communities.

Urban exploration: Reach downtown attractions within 30 minutes from several camping locations. Orangeland RV Park offers "easy access coming from or leaving to the east of the Los Angeles area," according to John M., making it practical for city visits while maintaining a home base outside the congestion.

What campers like

Heated pools year-round: Many local RV parks maintain swimming facilities regardless of season. At Orangeland RV Park, visitors appreciate the "heated pool, spa was hot. Nice little store with everything you need," according to Bryan S.

Diverse camping options: Bonelli Bluffs provides both RV and tent sites with varying levels of privacy. "We chose Bonelli for our shakedown trip in our new trailer. SO quiet. Numerous residents, but spots are mostly keep up nicely. Our rental spot has 3 trees, a picnic table, a firepit, level parking and full hookups," reports Aostara K.

Urban convenience with outdoor access: Campgrounds balance city proximity with natural features. "There is camping, horseback riding, fishing, trails, biking, hiking, picnics, you can use your jet skies in designated areas, swimming on the pool areas, kayaking, Park for kids and plenty more," Jessica P. says about Bonelli Bluffs.

What you should know

Airport noise impacts: Several campgrounds experience regular aircraft traffic. At Dockweiler Beach RV Park, "You will hear each and every of the planes taking off from LAX, but at one point you don't hear them anymore. It was not really annoying, but that flight at 5a was..." mentions Ignasi M.

Security considerations: Urban campgrounds implement varying safety measures. Anaheim Harbor RV Park features "on-site guard at night for safety," notes Tracey S., an important feature in urban camping areas.

Site size restrictions: Many campgrounds have strict limitations on vehicle dimensions. At Anaheim Harbor RV Park, "The 40ft RV length restriction includes the length of the hitch...If you have a larger RV or slide-outs it is recommended you book Deluxe space or Deluxe space+ parking," warns Prentice F.

Utility interruptions: Some facilities experience occasional service disruptions. At Waterfront RV Park, one camper noted water was unavailable until 5:00 pm on multiple days, despite paying full rates.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access procedures: During busy periods, campground pools may require scheduling. At Golden Shore RV Resort, "During COVID you need to reserve your time at the pool," noted Anna in her review, though policies may have changed since.

Extra person fees: Many campgrounds charge for additional family members. "Despite Disneyland being a family destination, their campsites are for 2 people only. You must pay for each additional person over 10 years old," cautions Prentice F. about Anaheim Harbor RV Park.

Tent camping limitations: Few sites accommodate tent camping in this urban region. Jessica R. found at Anaheim Harbor RV Park that "There are only two tent sites (T1 and T3), the rest are for RVs. The price was super affordable at only $40 per night...The tent sites are very small with a picnic table and AstroTurf."

Tips from RVers

Military facilities: Seabreeze At Seal Beach provides exclusive access for those with military credentials. "A well kept secret with one drawback; everyone has to have an ID card to get on the base or be pre approved by base security," explains William M.

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on specific needs and preferences. At Dockweiler Beach RV Park, "The dry camp provides much more space, but only relatively small RVs," notes Ignasi M., while PJ M. advises "Best sites are 125-128."

Seasonal reservation planning: Book well in advance during peak periods. Many RV parks fill completely during summer months and holiday weekends, particularly those with beach access or proximity to attractions.

Required additional equipment: Some parks have specific equipment requirements. Prentice F. notes that at Anaheim Harbor RV Park, "You must have a 25ft sewage hose" to properly connect to available hookups.
