Best RV Parks & Resorts near Santa Maria, CA

Santa Maria RV parks range from well-equipped resorts to basic facilities positioned along coastal routes. Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Resort provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections, situated near beach dunes. Pismo Coast Village RV Resort accommodates large recreational vehicles with over 400 tightly spaced sites, offering electric, water, and sewer hookups year-round. Pismo Sands RV Park features both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service options with concrete pads that intrude slightly into neighboring spaces. "The spots are very tight with neighbors very close. Sewer, electric and water are on a single concrete area that intrudes on your neighbors area."

Several parks between Santa Maria and the coastal communities maintain year-round operations with varying amenities. Most campgrounds provide sanitary dump stations, though some, like Coastal Dunes RV Park, lack this facility. Cell service varies throughout the region, with visitors to Flying Flags RV Resort reporting excellent WiFi connectivity suitable for remote work. Reservation requirements become particularly important during summer months and weekends when occupancy rates peak at popular locations like Holiday RV Park. Pet policies differ between facilities - while most welcome pets, Pacific Dunes Ranch prohibits them. Big rig access might require careful navigation at certain parks, especially those with tighter turns and narrow interior roads. Propane services appear limited across the area, with campers needing to seek refills in nearby towns.

    Camp San Luis Obispo RV

    Very clean and open campground

We have visited this place at least 3 times .  It is a dog friendly camp sight with pull through campsites.  The cost of the pull through is 25 $.  They have 30 amp/50amp available. They also have overflow camping available for 5 $.  Please beware that overflow is I. The grass area and does not have hookups.  You can tent camp in those.  If you do park your rv in the overflow there is a dump site for those. They have clean facilities on site, bathrooms with hot showers.  You can bike, walk the base.  The area is kept very clean and at night there is no noise.  At 10 camp goes silent.  They have a table and brick fire pit at each pull through. Bring you own firewood. This is a military base so don’t forget your military Id  or civil service Id.   There is a small commissary (store) near the campground, but hours vary.

We go here with our kids  and love it as it’s clean secure and close to (15min) to the beach.

Note reservation maximum 30 days ahead.

    Pismo Coast Village RV Resort

Disappointing Stay– Not What Was Advertised

We just returned from a stay at Pismo Coast RV Resort, and unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. Check-in was fast and easy, and on our first full day, the weather was perfect. The kids enjoyed the pool and arcade, which was a great start. However, several advertised amenities were either missing or in poor condition. We went looking for the mini golf course that’s promoted on their website, only to find it completely ripped out and blocked off— very disappointing since it was one of the reasons, we booked this resort. We also searched for the ping pong tables, which appear to have been left outside and are badly warped and unusable. Another letdown. The basketball and tennis are combined into one court, so only one activity can be played at a time, and we never did find the horseshoe area. Our group included eight people and two travel trailers. We had told the kids all about the resort's amenities, which played a big part in our decision to book. It was disheartening to find that many of the features we looked forward to simply weren’t available. Dinner at the on-site restaurant was equally frustrating. Service was extremely slow, and there weren’t enough umbrellas to provide shade— we ended up sitting with the sun in our faces. One of our guests wasn’t even asked for their drink order before the server walked away. When we finished eating, it took over 25 minutes just to get our bill, despite the restaurant being nearly empty(maybe 4 tables outside, 2 inside). We felt completely ignored. The first night was peaceful, as it should be. But the following day, large RVs surrounded us and parked so close they encroached on the grass behind our spot. Some opened their toy haulers, making it feel like we had no privacy— just 5 feet from their setup. That night was extremely loud until 11:30 PM, even though quiet hours start at 10 PM. With on-site security, we expected better enforcement. It wasn’t just one or two campsites being loud— it was several, with shouting and laughter like it was a private party. If you’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly place where you can count on the advertised amenities, this is not it. We had high hopes that this would become an annual trip, but based on this experience, we won’t be returning. Really disappointed.

    Cachuma Lake Recreation Area

    Mostly a good camp

Huge campground! Variety of sites from dry to full hookups. Anything with hookups is cramped though. We originally booked FHU and opted out for much more spacious dry site. Dry sites really vary but all are largish. Fire pit at 409 put in a strange location so that we is located on the back side of our trailer. Really no other way we could have configured it. For such a large park with so many amenities I cannot believe the dog park is downright tiny. But park during week is largely vacant so a lot of space to let your dog run (which is against policy). Sure the place is a muddy mess is the rain. Ground squirrels got the place all torn up but hey they were there first. Generally this is a great destination resort! Go see the monarch butterflies in Goleta in winter months. They overwinter there!

    Pismo Coast Village RV Resort

Direct access to beach; great amenities

This is a pricey rv park, but great location and very busy. It is competitive with the others around and think it was the best one in the area. There are over 400 sites and so you are very, very close to your neighbor and tight parking at your rv, but the grounds are kept very nice and there are lots of things to do at the RV park.

Direct access to the beach and can stroll the beach all the way to downtown. Also walkable to state park with walking trails by the water.

Wifi worked excellent and had good AT&T cell service so easy to work remote here. Laundry on site and pricey, but machines worked well and very clean facilities with plenty of washers and dryers.$2.75/wash,$1.75/dry

Close to San Luis Obispo. Awesome food at Oasis Mediterranean, the Honeymoon Cafe and Talay Thai!

    Cachuma Lake Recreation Area

    Loved this place!

First: the bad… it was so windy and cold. Make sure you bring warm clothes!

The good: nice level site, full hookup, picnic table, trees.. (hookup sites don’t have fire pits) Biking/hiking trail was nice:) And can bike and walk around campground! It’s a very big place to explore:) Great disc golf course!! Free to play! The store has camping items, some food (overpriced but that’s expected) , souvenirs, gas… We wanted to get propane when checking out, but nobody in the store knew how to do it, so we were told to come back in 1.5 hours, but we were leaving. It was too windy and cold to fish, which is why we went there:( check the forecast and any wind advisories!! Great restaurant, lots of space to explore. No human contact with the water. Don’t expect to swim.

    El Chorro Regional Park

Clean, Organized, and Close to San Luis Obispo

Great spot to post up if you want to spend some time in SLO. The sites on the dry loop (Bishop) have little privacy, but most are pull-through. The loops with services have much more tree coverage, but when I was there seemed to be mostly occupied by long term RVs.

I didn't use the showers, but they looked clean (take quarters, I believe) and the bathroom facilities were prime.

Yes, you can hear traffic on Highway  1 from here, but it's not bad at all and the views of Bishop Peak are splendid. Also saw a turkey wander by the first day.

    Jalama Beach County Park

    Ruggedly beautiful beach

General: Variety of sites from basic camping to those with electric hookups. Some are considered premium beachfront sites and cabins. Prices are also adjusted seasonally.

Site Quality: Some sites are concrete; some are on sand. Our site was close to the beach, however, the view of the ocean was blocked by dunes (and also by a restroom). Our site also easily accommodated two camper vans. Each site had a large picnic table and fire ring, although the picnic table was a bit warped.

Bath/Shower: The closest restroom to our site was very basic – one toilet each for men and women with a shared sink on the outside. Showers are in a separate building and are $ 1.00 for three minutes.

Activities: The beach here is ruggedly beautiful and you can walk quite a distance if you go to the left; to the right, there is a lot of driftwood but is still somewhat walkable. There is also a store/small restaurant on-site.

We were supposed to spend two nights here but after a very stormy night, we had to evacuate as the only road in/out was unstable, but we would definitely return. If we were unable to reserve a premium beach site, we would choose a site at the top level. Although these are furthest from the beach, they provide the best view of the ocean.

    Morro Bay State Park Campground

Established campground, basic sites, convenient to town

This is a well established California state park campground, just a mile or so from the small coastal town of Morro Bay. There are 30 water/electric hookup sites (all fhu sites are pull-through), about 100 dry sites of various sizes, and a dump station and clean-water-fill. There are park aides in the kiosk from 8am. to about 9:00pm in summer, and 9am to 5pm in winter, and always a camp host on duty To report problems to, or to buy firewood from. It's one of the busiest parks in the state park system, and it's a good idea to get reservations if possible. Bathrooms/token showers are very aged and function unreliably. Lots of big trees for shade in many areas, and a nice estuary boardwalk close by for a stroll.

Guide to Santa Maria

Santa Maria visitors seeking campgrounds have options ranging from beachfront locations to valley RV resorts. The central California coastal area maintains mild temperatures year-round, with average highs of 65-75°F and cooler evenings even during summer months. Campgrounds between Santa Maria and Pismo Beach provide varying levels of access to both beach activities and wine country exploration.

What to do

Explore beach dunes: Pacific Dunes Ranch RV Resort connects directly to scenic sand dunes. "You can walk off the property and directly into the sand dunes. Multiple bathroom and dumpster locations. Clean and warm showers available during the day," reports James O.

Visit nearby towns: Sun Outdoors Santa Barbara offers easy access to popular destinations. "Goleta, CA. Spacious sites. Very clean. Nicely wooded. Pool, jacuzzi, laundry-all well maintained. Hiking and biking trails. Short hike down to very nice beach at the El Capitan State Park," notes Nancy L.

Try horseback riding: Some coastal RV parks offer unique recreational opportunities. "They had horseback riding and a small playground. We came in late and it was hard to find our map and site reservations," explains Ryan S. from Pacific Dunes Ranch.

Cycling routes: Several campgrounds connect to coastal biking paths. "There is a bike path (5 miles ish round trip) that leads to the beach. The path is along a creek, surrounded by trees, and goes through a golf course. It is relatively flat and our 7yr old had a blast," shares a camper at Avila Hot Springs.

What campers like

Beach proximity: Morro Dunes RV Park receives praise for its coastal access. "Very clean, friendly staff, and the best thing of all is the access to the beach is across the street," notes Robbie G.

Natural hot springs: Some campgrounds offer unique amenities beyond standard RV hookups. "In addition to natural mineral springs and heated pool, facilities have water, toilets, showers, electricity for stealth travelers. Picnic tables outside," explains Scott O. at Avila Hot Springs.

Recreation facilities: Flying Flags RV Resort provides extensive on-site activities. "Amazing Staff, very helpful and nice. Grounds were excellent, well maintained and everything seemed very new. Food from cafe was really good," reports Ryan S.

Wi-Fi reliability: Connectivity varies between campgrounds, with some offering strong signals. "Nice location, clean, with good internet access," notes Veronica C. about Pacific Dunes Ranch, making it suitable for remote workers.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Pismo Coast Village RV Resort requires advance planning. "Check in was quick and efficient. Our site was wide and long enough to park our TT and TV. Site had reasonable privacy. Overall, a clean and quiet place to stay," reports Patrick J.

Site privacy concerns: Space limitations affect many coastal RV parks. "The spots are tight, but great infrastructure. Courteous staff, great store with all replacement parts you might need. Steps away from the ocean," notes Frank P.

Seasonal crowds: Summer months bring higher occupancy to most campgrounds. "On our way back to southern Cali from the Bay Area, we needed a place to stay in our van to break up the drive! I called when we were a few hours away and the very kind receptionist booked us a site," shares Shannon K. about finding last-minute availability at Morro Dunes.

Facility maintenance: Bathroom and shower conditions vary significantly between parks. "Bathrooms were clean and well-maintained!" comments Shannon K. about facilities at Morro Dunes RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Pismo Sands RV Park offers child-friendly amenities. "This campground really does deserve the label 'resort'. Very clean very well kept, full service campground. Grounds are beautiful with lots of grass and trees well paved and maintained. Heated pool and spa and clean modern laundry room. Game room, library, and outdoor kids playground that has a mock pirate ship for the kids to climb through," notes Mike E.

Swimming options: Multiple RV sites near Santa Maria offer pools for family enjoyment. "We have a 25 yard pool with swimming lanes, and the hot pool which can accommodate 30 people," explains a review of Avila Hot Springs.

Multi-generational activities: Look for parks with diverse recreational options. "Pismo Coast Village has excellent activities, and an on-site restaurant delivers to your site. Play structures are throughout, and the sites are tight, but clean and mostly level," shares Jason M.

Educational opportunities: Some parks offer nature exploration for children. "Without the OHV activity, it was safe to hike or dune surf. Horseback riding, basketball court, and remote controlled car track were other amenities," mentions Annette A. about Pacific Dunes Ranch.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Le Sage Riviera RV Park offers prepared sites. "Level sites, small rocks. Quiet park. Close to the beach," notes P.S.

Site selection strategy: Choose your location within each park carefully. "Upper area closer to the dunes is preferred for breezes. Lots of permanent residents, but the park is well kept," advises Annette A. about Pacific Dunes Ranch.

Check-in procedures: RV parks have varying arrival policies. "Read before booking - Nice rv parking with lot space between the rigs nice infrastructure just little expensive. Complain just about the check in 4pm and check out 12pm... no make sense but overall is good," warns Andre P.

Storage services: Some parks offer extended services for frequent visitors. "These folks will even store and retrieve your RV for you if you wish to leave it here and come to the area periodically," explains Mike E. about Pismo Sands.
