Best Campgrounds near Nipomo, CA

Camping areas near Nipomo, California range from established state parks to dispersed sites, with several options concentrated along the coastal region. Oceano Campground at Pismo State Beach provides tent and RV sites with beach access, while Lopez Lake Recreation Area offers cabins, tent camping, and RV hookups about 20 miles northeast of Nipomo. The coastal campgrounds feature amenities like showers, picnic tables, and fire rings, while TV Tower Road provides free dispersed camping opportunities in a more primitive setting. Most campgrounds in the region accommodate both tent and RV camping, with some offering cabin rentals for those seeking additional comfort.

Road conditions and accessibility vary significantly throughout the region, with coastal campgrounds generally providing paved access and level sites suitable for most vehicles. State park campgrounds like Oceano and North Beach at Pismo State Beach maintain well-developed infrastructure including flush toilets, token-operated showers, and designated camping pads. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer months when coastal sites fill quickly. The region experiences mild temperatures year-round, though coastal fog is common in mornings, particularly during summer. According to one visitor, "This is a great campground. Sites far apart, easy access to garbage disposal, flush toilets, showers and nice grassy sites. It is a short walk to the beach."

The proximity to beaches represents a major draw for campers in the Nipomo area, with several campgrounds offering direct beach access or short walks to the shore. Campers frequently mention the ability to walk from their sites to beaches, dunes, and coastal trails as highlights of their experience. The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area provides unique opportunities for off-road enthusiasts, while nearby nature preserves offer wildlife viewing, particularly at the Monarch Butterfly Grove adjacent to Oceano Campground. Several visitors noted the family-friendly atmosphere at established campgrounds, though some mentioned sites can be close together at popular locations. Dispersed camping options like TV Tower Road provide more solitude but fewer amenities, with one camper noting, "The wind was shaking my tent all night until the morning. But thankfully I had bugspray the insect problem was solved. Nightsky was amazing!"

    Vinyl Vineyards

    GORGEOUS !

I had such an unforgettable stay at Vinyl Vineyards! I stayed at the David Bowie trailer, and it was pure nostalgia full of vintage charm, character, and cozy vibes. Everywhere I looked felt like stepping into a different era in the best way possible. The property itself is expansive and breathtaking. I got a private UTV tour across their 120 acres of vineyards, and it was absolutely unbeatable, wide open views, rolling vines, and that peaceful Paso Robles magic. The vibe on the property was incredible, and the outdoor shower was such a unique, refreshing touch that made the stay even more memorable. And the wine? Unforgettable. Their rosé is absolutely on point, hands down my favorite. Do the tasting, you won’t be disappointed! I felt completely at home here, and I can’t wait to come back, next time with my pets and my daughter in tow. Vinyl Vineyards is such a gem, and I’m already counting the days until I return.

Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area Campground

Use your 4x4 for what it was intended for, but use caution

Just spent the weekend in the Oceano SVRA, and some things I noticed:

    1. Even with the reduced number of campers, the camping area still seemed really full.

    2. The sand was very soft and deep in the camping area, and I saw multiple 4x4 trucks getting stuck, including a Lexus GX460, 2 Toyota Tacomas and 1 4Runner, and a stock Jeep Wrangler.

    3. The dunes are ridiculously fun to drive on, but they are also dangerous. They are also very devoid of other vehicles due to the limited number of entries, so DO NOT go out alone. There are plenty of places to get lost in, and if you're at the bottom of a dune, you cannot see where you are and will be lost.

So much fun, even the mariachi bands blasting music until 3 in the morning was fun.

    Flying Flags Avila Beach

    Great place

Views are amazing. You can hear the sea lions at Port San Luis, birds of paradise and other lovely flowers, palm trees and eucalyptus. Very well maintained. Beach is 10 minute walk and allows dogs. Near to San Luis Obispo and so much more that the lovely Central Coast has to offer. Staff were very attentive and helpful. There are areas with community fires for gathering, small store. Bocce ball and other games. I dry camped which worked out just fine. $10 dump fee when you leave is available for dry campers. Full hookups also available but they fill up so advance reservations needed.

    The Beachhouse RV Park

Ok if you just need a basic place and is near Beach

Misremembered names, ended up at Morro strand RV park when meant to be at Morro dunes RV park. This one, Morro strand is in a depressing area and park itself is gravel everywhere not grass or plants. At least it's only a 10 min walk to the Morro beach, with great view of Morro Rock. It does have ok facilities including coin laundry on site

    Bella Vista By The Sea

Walk to beach, pier, trails and nice town of Cayucos.

Accurate description in other reviews. This is a mobile home park with RV sites(FHU). This lends to a different experience, but a good one. Walking distance pretty much anything. Ride or walk out of Bella Vista to beach, pier, trails and town. Had back in site# 66. Lots of maneuvering room for our 35 feet TT. I'd go back.:-)

    Santa Margarita Lake Regional Park

    Great Staff

This campground is only 25 minutes from the beach. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and we're very accommodating to me and my dog during a heat wave that was moving through.

Showers are available, they take quarters.

    Would absolutely stay here again.

    TV Tower Road Dispersed Camping

The views in the morning are amazing!

I arrived on motorcycle at 10:30 at night. I hate being that guy that shows up late while everyone is in their tents, but it happens. First 90% of the road/trail is pretty easy, but the last 10% did get a little sketchy at night, while on a motorcycle and being my first time there. It was fairly crowded when I got there but was able to find a spot so quickly pitch my tend and get some well needed sleep. I woke first thing in the morning and the view to the west is stunning, a sea of clouds and islands of distant mountain peaks all the way to the coast. I would only recommend experienced riders take a large street motorcycle up there, but it is doable. I set up my tent on the first spot on the left, on the little ridge.

Vines RV Resort, A Sun RV Resort

Found my place in life here at the Vines!

I came to the Vines in an old vintage beat up RV with quite the traumatic story trailing and I have been blessed beyond what I could imagine would be possible. Not only did the staff go out of their way to make accommodations for me, they have adjusted and readjusted and accommodated again and again just to make sure I felt like I was comfortable and my needs were met. They taught me all I know about RVing full time and have been the perfect community of people I have needed to carry me thru tough times. This may not be the best most perfect place and some may have things to complain about but as for me and my household we are filled with nothing but gratitude for the home I have found here.

The bathrooms are always clean and the showers are hot, the pools are clean and always open, the gym has new equipment and the game room is stocked for a good time. The general store provides basic things that I've needed along the way as well as parts for the RV that I could not do without but didn't even know I needed. Teri is the manager there now and her heart for the people she serves is so evident that you can't help but to love her. All of the dogs are well behaved I don't hear all the barking that the other review complained about nor do I find that my privacy is that compromised considering how close we are I do feel like I have some sort of privacy still.

The spaces are spacious enough to enjoy outside time with friends and family and it's a perfect place to come escape from all the noise of life and tune into what's going on inside our own minds and bodies which is why I'm here and away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

If you're looking for a retreat, quiet and stable but embracing friendly and warm - this is the spot!!

Nice park. Quite busy mid Aug but not rowdy. Pretty views and close to town centre. Showers (need to pay) and firewood available
