I camped here most recently in August of 2019 with my family in Site 137. The campsite is at the end of the main loop before the road continues on to the other section of the campground. The site is quiet and has privacy on 3 sides. There is a site next to this site but there is some distance between the two sites. There is lots of room for large tents. We were able to place two large tents behind the trees in the back of the campsite. The stream is directly across from the campsite but there is a lot of plant growth preventing easy access. There is also plenty of shade in this site.
The parking pad has space for only two vehicles side by side and it is a tight fit.
There is a water spigot on the road between the two sites so water is not an issue. There are two flush toilets' one campsite away, but since the sites are large it is not as close as you would think. If you want to take a shower you can buy tokens for hot water, but you will need to walk to the next closest bathroom that has the showers.
There are two stores near by. One at the lodge which is open later and also has an ice cream shop and another small store in the campground in the farther loop that also sells ice and firewood. The camp store also has a laundry facility.
The only drawback to the site was bugs during the day time.
Basically no one there when we stayed. Some excellent hikes and good climbing if you're into that.
Clean open spot near the river. Store with everything you’d need. Showers were COLD but it woke me up! You can hear the road a tiny bit but overall this is an awesome place to stay.
Lot of space with amazing view to the ocean and trail to the beach. Free restroom and showers work with quarters. Firewood pit and lot of grass. Free Sewage and fresh water on the entrance.
Big campground because the coronavirus the facility has closed. I just use campground and showers is free hot water showers. Seems like fun on the summer I went on the winter and the place is very cold. One time visit. Staff is very cool.
We camped here for one night to test our pandemic project…a van conversion. We had never been here before but will definitely come back. We came in November, just in time for a temperature drop and some nice gusts. I’m not going to hold the chill against this area because I didn’t dress accordingly.
We had a great site and there was no one on either side of us. The bathrooms were a short walk down hill. They were clean with flushing toilets. There camp ground was quiet and it was mostly couples or small family groups. The hiking is quite beautiful and the woodpeckers were busy storing acorns.
Can’t beat the view, proximity to Carmel, amenities and cleanliness of this facility. The cabins and camping sites have been nestled into terraced platforms on the side of this beautiful ridgeline located about 15 minute drive from Carmel.
But the sites are much smaller than what we’re accustomed to (we typically don’t camp within 10 feet of another family). But it is a very family friendly campground with a lot of oversight and CLEAN bathrooms!
For those coming with RVs and travel trailers: be advised that there are sections of one-lane road in the last mile leading to the resort. And the driveway to the campground is STEEP!
All in all, it’s worth returning,
Sites are packed in but understandably given the location. Big trees and the river make it feel less crowded than it is.
This is only my 5th National park and was beautiful. Lots of wildlife visitor's. The Park is also home to the California Condor. Bummer that we didn't see any. RV spots have electric plug in. We stayed in a 30 amp spot.
