Riverside County offers several RV campgrounds near Homeland, California, ranging from resort-style facilities to more rustic options. Located between Lake Elsinore and Hemet, Homeland sits at an elevation of approximately 1,700 feet with seasonal temperatures that can fluctuate dramatically. Local camping areas feature a mix of desert and mountain terrain, with several options providing lake access or mountain views within a 30-minute drive.
What to Do
Fishing at nearby lakes: Launch Pointe Recreation Destination provides lake access for fishing enthusiasts. "We took Girl Scouts here for group camping. Rocky and sand. The family camping was fine! Girls used Porta Potties. I'm hoping they have finished construction on something better since then. However, there are some great kid friendly activities," notes Janet S. about Rancho Jurupa Park.
Local exploration: The area offers proximity to historic sites. "We drove over to the Mission Inn (8 min drive) enjoyed lunch. Their is a pedestrian only shopping area with a Saturday farmer's market plus lots of restaurants," shares Jody R. about the convenience of day trips from nearby campgrounds.
Water recreation: Multiple camping areas offer water features. "My family loves this place we were here before the remodeling and we are still faithful returners every year for the past 20 + years we absolutely love it here and the family fun is always amazing," writes Ametra J. about Launch Pointe Recreation Destination and RV Park.
What Campers Like
Evening comfort: Mountain campgrounds offer relief from valley heat. "We had a great breeze every evening starting around 4pm that lasted a couple hours," reports a reviewer about Thousand Trails Idyllwild, noting how the elevation provides natural cooling.
Security features: Many parks prioritize camper safety. "Friendly staff to check us in gates close at 10:pm your provided with a security gate code to get back in if your out late," mentions a Rancho Jurupa visitor, highlighting security measures that families appreciate.
Spacious sites: Unlike some cramped RV parks, several campgrounds offer ample space. "Great park. It may not seem nice when you are passing through town to get in, but once you enter the gates it's beautiful. Large concrete pads, easy backing in and hooking up. Lots of grass, great place to camp in groups," says Paul C. about Thousand Trails Wilderness Lakes RV Resort.
What You Should Know
Seasonal pests: Some campgrounds have seasonal issues with local wildlife. "My biggest complaint with this resort is the geese, which apparently are always there, are loud and their poop is everywhere," reports Jennifer D. about Wilderness Lakes RV Resort.
Elevation considerations: Higher elevation campgrounds require preparation. "When I first got to Idyllwild, a little heat wave was hanging around, but by the 2nd week, the weather was beautiful. I have asthma, so nothing more strenuous for me then walking the dog in the altitude," shares Tom W.
Water quality concerns: Lake conditions can vary seasonally. "This is probably the nicest thing in lake elsinore along with the bowling alley. We stayed there for a weekend and had a great time taking the kids to the pool, and slaps pad. The restaurant has great food and cold drinks. The lake was closed due to algae bloom," notes Remmington about Launch Pointe Recreation Destination.
Tips for Camping with Families
Pool amenities: Many RV campgrounds near Homeland feature family-friendly water features. "We enjoyed the pool, watching the ducks in the pond, and the kids loved the basketball court. Some parts closed on certain days- store, jacuzzi, community room," shares a visitor at Wilderness Lakes.
Playground access: Several parks offer dedicated play areas. "This place is surprisingly nice for being in the middle of the city. It was very well-kept and clean nice family environment. We will definitely spend more time here," writes Greg about Rancho Jurupa RV Park.
Rental options: For families without camping gear, alternative accommodations exist. "Took Girl Scouts here for group camping. Rocky and sand. The family camping was fine! Girls used Porta Potties. I'm hoping they have finished construction on something better since then. However, there are some great kid friendly activities," notes Janet S.
Tips from RVers
Site selection strategy: Choose sites carefully based on your needs. "Site 414 Had No cell coverage for our Verizon phones. After a drive through the park we found Cell coverage only works in lower part of the park. Our Site was not level at all. We carry a lot of leveling blocks and are not even close to level still," warns a camper about Idyllwild.
Dump station availability: Plan ahead for sanitation needs. "Came in for a convention in Ontario, better alternative than Fairplex park. Very spacious and good for big rigs. There's a dump station, but a couple spots with dump but they were always booked. I will book ahead next time. 50⚡️ 💧👍," advises Kaitlynn B.
Park access routes: Consider approach routes when towing. "I recommend coming in and out from Anza passing by lake Hemet, if your towing towards your max capacity. Gradual straight climb through 75% of the way. Takes about 20-30 minutes longer then the other ways but work the saving the strain on your truck and drive," suggests Peter R. about Golden Village Palms RV Resort.
