Best RV Parks & Resorts near Calipatria, CA

RV parks near Calipatria cater to various preferences, with Del Yermo RV Park directly in Calipatria offering electric hookups, sewer connections, and water hookups for self-contained units. Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort in nearby Niland provides full hookup rv sites with 50-amp service, accommodating big rigs alongside picnic tables and resort amenities. Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort in El Centro features pull-through rv pads overlooking a pond, with sites generally separated by hedges for privacy. Most RV parks in the region require reservations, especially during winter months when snowbirds from Canada and northern states occupy many sites. Passport America discounts are accepted at some facilities, including Rio Bend which honors them throughout the week, though restrictions may apply to premium pull-through sites. Summer temperatures frequently exceed 110 degrees, making pool facilities less refreshing and causing some park amenities like restaurants and bars to close seasonally. Dump stations and shower facilities vary significantly between parks, with some offering clean, well-maintained facilities while others provide more basic services. Nearby attractions include the Salton Sea, off-road vehicle areas, and hot springs, though road noise from highways and occasional train traffic may affect certain camping locations.

Cottonwood Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

    Very nice but small sites

I really liked this campground. It’s one of the campground inside Joshua Tree NP and reservable through Recreation.gov. The sites are very private but they are small. Both the pull through and back in sites are small so this is definitely not for big rigs. We had A19 which is a pull through on the right side of the road and we had to go into the gravel part of the site so we would be in enough to open our driver side slide out. And we ended up pretty slanted as a result, but it fit. There are flush toilets that are very clean. This side of the park is very nice but most of the action is north of here and so we’re an hour drive to a lot of the hikes we want to do. No cell service at all.

Tamarisk Grove Campground — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    Beautiful desert campground

Cool campground, quiet but busy with day use visitors and hikers, host available with lots of info at kiosk.

A bit pricey at $35/night. No hookups available, no dump station. RV max length is 21 ft. Hike/bike spots $5/per person, day use fee is $10.

No water here for drinking, but there are spigots throughout the campground. Showers available, pay via token.

Just about no cell service here. Very nice short loop trail just across the street, bursting with flowers in the spring.  Plenty of room to park your vehicle (even big rigs) outside the campground along the road.

    Leapin' Lizard RV Ranch

    Very clean and friendly

Staying here for the fall, winter, spring season. The facilities are very clean with a beautiful pool and spa. The rates are reasonable especially if staying long term. It’s mostly quiet although there are off road vehicles around they’re not too irritating. There are occasional fireworks. It feels very safe here. Lots of shade.

Cottonwood Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

    Park Campground

We didn’t stay here because we were too big although you can stay with a big rig if you reserve the group camp. That’s $55 a night so we decided to move to the dispersed camp close by. This does have a dump station and fresh water

Cottonwood Campground — Joshua Tree National Park

    Beautiful landscape, so quiet.

Beautiful campsite. No Joshua Trees on this side of the park, but beautiful sunrise and sunset views. Sites are a bit narrow for big rigs with slides, but we made it happen with our class A super slide.

Walter's Camp RV Park & Campground

    Nice off the beaten path

Not the fanciest but it was a nice quiet area with full hookups. Only $40 a night included utilities and WiFi. We saw some wildlife. Nice little hike in the scrub pines. Close to town but far enough to feel like we were away from it all. Smaller park. I think 44 spaces. They had laundry room I didn’t use. Sell Propane if you need it. Offered bathrooms and showers but didn’t look very clean so I used my own since water was hooked up.

Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort

Perfect for Snow Birds and winter get-aways

We have stayed here a few times now.  The best times are during the fall and winter months as the park welcomes back its community of Snow Birds coming from Canada and the northern US.  During those times the atmosphere in the evening is always festive, often with live music and an outdoor bar.  The staff are pleasant and accommodating.   It is also a pretty good overnight spot if you are passing through in the summer, but the temperatures in this area soar during the summer and are frequently above 110 degrees.  During summer time the pool becomes too warm to be refreshing, and the restaurant and bar are closed.  The rates are much lower in the summer.  This is also one of the few parks that accepts Passport America all days of the week.  Note that Passport America discounts cannot be used with pull-through sites.  The sites are fairly spacious and generally separated by hedges so you are not looking directly at your neighbor's rig.  Scenery around the park is beautiful any time of year, and for those who enjoy the RV Resort lifestyle the only reason to go out of the park during the snow bird season is for groceries.

    Mojos Slab Camp

    Mojo is the best

This is the perfect spot if you are planning to stay in slab city. Either for short or long term it is nice to be able to show up to an established camp. Mojo is the coolest person. Super nice and knows how to run a good camp. Lots of interesting people to talk to, it’s a very community oriented camp so plan to make some friends while you are there! We sat by the fire morning and night with the crew there and got to hear some amazing stories. Bathrooms and a kitchen are available so no need to be fully contained. Please be respectful if you go. This place is awesome and the vibe is awesome. Please don’t disturb that! There are lots of local dogs running around. All the ones we met were super friendly but keep that in mind if you have a dog or are afraid of them.

    Chiriaco Summit Dry Camp Area

    No Complaints

Close to I-10, but a private property with designated spots right next to a local diner and truck stop. Wi-Fi at the diner, restrooms and trash at the truck stop, reliable cell service everywhere. No dump station that I saw personally, and no site manager came to check in on me like in other reviews. It really is perfect as a boondocker's gift. A f!ck ton of WW2 tanks will greet you on your way in though. Best of luck navigating those! 🤞

Guide to Calipatria

RV camping near Calipatria, California offers access to the Imperial Valley's unique desert terrain, with elevations averaging around 180 feet below sea level. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 115°F, while winter nights can drop below 40°F. The area's remote location provides exceptional stargazing opportunities with minimal light pollution.

What to do

Off-road adventures: 6 miles from paved roads at Walter's Camp RV Park & Campground, visitors can access prime Colorado River recreation. "About 6 miles off the paved road. Roads were graded last week and pretty decent drive, although it's posted that 4x4 is sometimes recommended," notes Larry B. The campground serves as "a great launch point up the Colorado River" according to Izzy Y.

Metal sculpture viewing: 25 minutes away from Leapin' Lizard RV Ranch, visitors can explore the famous metal sculptures near Borrego Springs. "Borrego springs is about 25 minutes away," mentions Juliet L., who appreciated that the staff "mapped out local spots that we should check out."

Stargazing: designated dark sky community makes this region ideal for astronomy enthusiasts. "As a Designated Dark Sky Community, this is a great place to do some stargazing as well," explains a reviewer at The Springs at Borrego RV Resort. The remote desert location minimizes light pollution throughout the year.

What campers like

Desert shade trees: rare natural protection at Leapin' Lizard RV Ranch creates privacy between sites. "Each spot is surrounded by trees which is very rare to find in the desert! It makes each spot private and helps hugely with keeping wind from blowing dirt into your spot," writes Juliet L.

Hot mineral baths: therapeutic options for soaking after a day exploring. A reviewer at Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort notes "SPA and pool is nice - but no fire allowed." Another mentions it's "mainly for during the winter here," making it popular with seasonal visitors.

River access: direct water recreation without crowds at Walter's Camp RV Park & Campground. "Stayed on the river with great access for swimming and fishing. Very quiet this time of year, also great access to BLM lands for Off road," shares Dale P., highlighting the multiple recreation options.

What you should know

Water quality concerns: filter requirements at some parks can affect your camping experience. At Oasis Palms RV Resort, Dawn J. warns "the water (sourced from a well) is NOT SAFE to drink or cook with due to excessive arsenic and fluoride. There are however 3 locations in the park with reverse osmosis filters to fill water jugs."

Military base amenities: ID required for accessing El Centro NAF Campground. "This campground is located on a military facility. You must have base access/privileges in order to utilize this campground," explains Ashlie F., adding that "the base has a large pool with water slides, gym, bowling alley, exchange/commissary, and movie theater."

Off-season closures: schedule accordingly when planning trips. "The restaurant and bar are closed" during summer at Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort, according to Glen C., who notes this affects the overall atmosphere compared to winter months.

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: year-round access but with seasonal temperature variations. "During summer time the pool becomes too warm to be refreshing," warns Glen C. about Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort during extreme heat periods.

Kid-friendly activities: daily options available at certain resorts. "Tons of activities, clean and quiet, such a wonderful spot!" shares Matt about Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort, where long-term visitors find regular entertainment.

Water safety precautions: river access requires supervision at Walter's Camp RV Park & Campground. "P.s. 5mph speed limit within the campgrounds is necessary due to foot traffic, especially from kids playing," reminds Izzy Y. about the importance of safety rules.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: premium locations require planning at Rio Bend. "The pull throughs are limited with views of the pond and wide so plan ahead," advises Michael, highlighting the need for early reservations.

Seasonal discounts: winter travel can provide substantial savings. Glen C. notes that Rio Bend "is also one of the few parks that accepts Passport America all days of the week. Note that Passport America discounts cannot be used with pull-through sites."

Full-hookup availability: amenities vary throughout the area. At Ocotillo RV Resort, Heather H. reports "it was a wonderful place to stay. Friendly staff, awesome food at the diner and we were able to rent a quad for the day," showing the convenience of on-site services.
