What to do
Boat access activities: At Desert View RV Resort, visitors can take advantage of the nearby Colorado River. "This campground is also a very close walk to the Colorado River, and the River Front Cafe which has some pretty great food if you don't feel like you want to cook," notes Sandy S. in her review.
Explore historic Route 66: Desert View RV Resort is located on a section of the original Route 66. "This park is located adjacent to a KOA on a road that used to be a section of the old Route 66. Our GPS vectored us in circles until it got it right. So be warned," explains Bosn E.
Visit nearby attractions: From Moon River RV Resort, guests can easily access several popular destinations. "This place is nice and close to Laughlin Nevada, Oatman and Bullhead City and yet it is still out in the country," according to Larry B.
Take advantage of water recreation: Davis Camp Park provides direct river access for various water activities. "The Colorado river is beautiful and at your door step. Rent jet skis or go on a boat ride from the Casino across the river on the Nevada side in Laughlin," shares Jody S.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Pirate Cove offers camping spots with personal beach access. "We camp on the Peninsulas. Full hook ups minus cable. Get your very own beach to play on. Leave your water toys at your beach," says Kim P.
Clean facilities: Needles KOA maintains their amenities well. "They have an unheated pool and a rec area that has a pool table, card table and a couch facing a big TV that's equipped with a VCR and a big library of tapes to go with it," notes Sandy S.
Swimming pools for hot days: Riverside Adventure Trails RV Resort provides relief from desert heat. "The pool was an absolute lifesaver in the August heat! Friendly locals (we needed a tin opener!) and several chatted to us in the pool and social room," shares Kate B.
Social atmosphere: Davis Camp Park fosters community interaction. "We group camp here with fellow youth sports families. The kids love the open areas to run and play in though there are not great playgrounds," mentions Lane H.
What you should know
Extra fees may apply: Some resorts charge for early arrivals. At Desert View RV Resort, "she did charge me an extra $15 for arriving at 1130 in the morning. The check-in time is 1400," reports Bosn E.
Highway noise: Many campgrounds experience traffic sounds due to their proximity to major roads. "There will be highway noise throughout the park as I-40 is around .5 miles away," notes a reviewer at Desert View RV Resort.
Gas price differences: Fuel costs vary significantly between states in this border region. "Fuel prices are about $1.50 to $2 a gallon less in AZ, about 2 miles away on the road," according to Bosn E.
Limited grocery access: Fenders River Road Resort visitors should come prepared. "Stock up on your groceries before you get to Needles California as there are no grocery stores," advises Kelly N.
Tips for camping with families
Off-peak timing: Davis Camp Park gets crowded during peak seasons. "Davis camp has gotten very populated over the years and gets really crowded, really quickly. If you want a nice spot, better get there early," suggests Shalynn S.
Beach chair setup: Set up in shallow water areas for comfort. "Loved being able to set up our Napier Sportz tent with our Subaru at the river's edge on the Colorado River just outside of Bullhead City, Az. So clear! Lots of families with jet skis, which we found entertaining although noisy. We just parked our beach chairs in the water as it was hot!!" shares Claudia B.
Evening insect preparation: Be ready for insects after sundown at Davis Camp. "The bugs get pretty insane as the sun goes down," warns Shalynn S.
Wildlife awareness: At several campgrounds, wildlife can be an issue. "Keep your food in containers because they have skunks and raccoons. I know crazy.. little fact the entire Laughlin area has them near the water and hotels because they want a quick meal," advises Brittney C.
Tips from RVers
Site selection for quieter stays: At Laughlin Avi KOA, choose sites strategically. "If you're looking for some peace and quiet you might want to skip this campground, but if you're looking for some fun and a late night out this is a great spot," suggests Matt I.
Shade considerations: Few campgrounds offer abundant shade in this desert region. "Not much in the way of trees for shade, and mostly dirt," notes Kim P. about Laughlin Avi KOA.
Temperature management: Plan for extreme heat during summer months. "We stayed overnight in July and the temperature when we arrived was 113 degrees! As such, we were confined to our trailer," shares Paul Y.
Level sites availability: Fenders River Road Resort offers good options for RVs. "The sites are kinda tight but well worth it if you can get a river view! Dog friendly with a nice dog beach. Staff is wonderful and accommodating," reports Kelly N.
