Best Cabin Camping near Amboy, CA

Cabin accommodations near Joshua Tree National Park include Shadow Mountain Camp, Van Life Campground, and Twentynine Palms Resort, each offering distinct cabin options within reasonable driving distance of Amboy. Shadow Mountain Camp provides basic cabin accommodations with toilet facilities and trash service, though without electric hookups or running water. Twentynine Palms Resort features more developed cabin rentals with full amenities including electric hookups, water, and sewer connections. A camper noted, "The amenities like restrooms and showers are very clean! We will stay again and recommend!" Most cabins in this area maintain a rustic desert aesthetic while providing essential shelter from extreme temperatures.

Rustic cabin rentals vary significantly in size and comfort level throughout the region. The Desert Dome and Joshua Tree Lake Cabins represent opposite ends of the spectrum, with the former offering a unique architectural experience without many modern conveniences, while the latter provides more conventional accommodations with full hookups. Pet policies differ between locations—Shadow Mountain Camp prohibits pets, while Twentynine Palms Resort and Van Life Campground welcome them. According to reviews, some properties offer unexpected amenities: "The property was perfect. We had originally booked the electric yurt but we were able to upgrade to the container home upon arrival." Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during peak Joshua Tree visitation seasons.

Most cabins include basic furnishings but require guests to bring their own bedding, towels, and personal items. Kitchen facilities range from simple fire pits at primitive locations to full cooking setups at more developed resorts. Twentynine Palms Resort includes an on-site market for basic provisions, while more remote cabin locations like Coyote Gultch Hideout have minimal amenities and require bringing all supplies. The Desert Dome and Shadow Mountain Camp provide outdoor fire areas but no firewood, so campers should plan to purchase wood locally or bring their own from approved sources. Stocking up on groceries and supplies before arrival is essential when staying at the more isolated cabin properties.

    Electric Yurt with Cowboy Pool

    Perfect Retreat

The property was perfect. We had originally booked the electric yurt but we were able to upgrade to the container home upon arrival. The home was perfect for the 2 of us and our 2 dogs. Ryan was very accommodating and friendly. We will definitely be back.

    Twentynine Palms Resort

    Perfect for Vets and Golfers

Awesome location. Joshua tree is very close. The MCCC base is about 3 miles away with exchange, commissary and golf course. We had the base course to ourselves on a Sunday afternoon. The RV park is just fine. Must be seasonal spot. Pretty empty in September. We had a nice pull through. Laundry room is fine and uses an app I could not get to work. $2, 2.25 per load in washer and dryer. They gave credit card readers on the machines so that’s what I used. Pool is open to the sun. Maybe they put the roof on in the winter. Very comfortable and quiet. We arrived on a Saturday and the office person recommended the Dark Skies program at the observatory near by. But it was sold out for the next three months so if you are going to be here maybe you should plan ahead if you want to experience the observatory program. I would stay again.

    Van Life Campground: Joshua Tree

    Level Up from BLM

I prefer to stay on BLM, but every once in a while I boondock at VLC for a hot shower and intentional socialising. I really dig the hostel vibes and communal activities. I'm usually stopping over, but there are folks who hang for longer and work remotely here.
