    Chattahoochee Bend State Park Campground

    Maiden Voyage

We just bought our first RV and it was a 22 foot Class C. We decided to stay close to home to try it out, learn everything on it in a forgiving place. Chattahoochee Bend was perfect. Drive through spot for our RV with 50AMP, 30AMP, water and dump service. The place is clean, quiet and in great shape! Electric bikes made it all the more fun, since the single road in, out and all about is quite hilly. Plenty of hiking trails!

    CWGS Campground of Oxford

    Camped here with RV purchase

Stayed at site 13, level gravel sites with picnic table on concrete pad, fire ring, FHU. Extended stays at the back of park and closer to hwy 20. There is a nice dog park, playground, covered pavilion, laundry room, dated bathroom, but clean. Shirley reserved our spot, and helped us pull through, and hook up, with our new RV! There is a little path/bridge, so We walked over to Camping World to get our bigger RV. The next morning, we had a few questions, so the Camping World service employee, came over (on a golf cart)to answer them. We decided to stay another night, and it was easy enough for Shirley to extend our reservation. If we were in the area again we would go back. There is a lot to do in the area….Talladega National Forest, Talladega SuperSpeedway and Cheaha State Park.T-Mobile was good, and paid about $30 night with Good Sam Discount. This Campground is also known as CWGS Campground of Oxford.

    Coleman Lake Rec Area

    Quiet, friendly, and affordable

We spent one night here on the way down to Florida. It is first come first serve and we had no issue finding a space on a Thursday. The lake and surrounding area are full of birds and wildlife. The sites are well maintained, level, with clean bathrooms. So happy we stumbled on this national forest campground!

No cell service. Poorly marked trail around the lake, still worth checking out! Just follow the lake!

This is a great camping spot with a beautiful lake. The trail around the lake was perfect. Caught 3 bass in the lake. You can't beat the price.

Great "Away From It All" Camping

Great campground. Secluded with electrical and water hookups. Make sure you use Highway 78 to enter. Google Maps will send you on a 11.5 mile mountain trail ( Dugger Mountain Road) that is a dirt 2 track over the mountain...an interesting trip with a camper. The campground is very well maintained. The bath house is very clean and up to date. Sites are level and we'll spaced

    Wind Creek State Park Campground

    The place is big

But also poorly signed and the front desk is pretty unhelpful. She asked if I had been here before and I said no and yet she never explained there was a code to get in. Frustrating at best. It is a huge campground, can't imagine the number of people in the summer. Seems I drove past some wilderness areas and hikes on the way in. We won't get to explore them on this visit.

    One of our favorites!

We loved this campground! Definitely one of our favorites. The campsites are spacious and private. The amenities are all close by and were super clean the entire time we were there. The playground is more geared toward older children, but it was very well taken care of.

Our campground hosts at the time (Dennis and Colleen) were so welcoming and friendly. They were always quick to offer a wave and friendly smile every time we saw them. Lisa, the maintenance host, was also fantastic! We enjoyed getting to know all 3 of them.

The hiking trails are all very clearly marked, and we enjoyed exploring during our time there.

The closest town is about a 45 min drive, but we didn’t mind at all. Just make sure to stock up before heading to the park.

We can’t wait to visit this park again. So far it is one of our favorites!

    Pioneer Campsite

Went tent camping at the pioneer campsite - for larger groups (35-40) but smaller groups can reserve too - we only had 4 people. Pioneer is up the hill from the main Rv campground and there is a little trail you can drive up - a car can make it but recommend a truck. Pioneer is spacious and all to yourself. Main campground is pretty close together but you can tent camp there too. Played putt putt and walked the trails - clean campground with nice staff/host.

    Under 30ft friendly

Great get away camping. Nothing nearby. Talledega is 45 minutes away. No Verizon signal at all couldn’t even make a call. There is a cell phone tower on top of the mountain but not sure of the carrier. We stayed on the top campground elevation 2474ft.

Big Wills Creek Campground and Tubing

Below expectations but with some work this place could be really good.

    The Good:

The staff member that checked us in was really friendly and polite. She was a delight to talk to and did a great job explaining the information we needed to know.

The C57 lot is right beside the dam and put in area for tubing. It was nice to sit out back and hear the water rushing through the opening in the dam.

The site had 50 and 30 amp service, water and sewer. Everything worked great. The site was pretty close to level.

After the tubers were done for the day, the creek was a pretty quiet area. The fish were biting and several folks pulled up some nice bass throughout the stay.

Tubing is included with the stay.

    The Bad:

The roads are gravel (well mostly dirt) and are full of potholes. They aren't maintained very well at all.

Coming into the park you pass an area with a bunch of full-time campers sitting nearly on top of each other. It's a rough looking area that you will need to pass by with entry or exit.

The grass wasn't maintained very well and there were clippings blown everywhere. The picnic table was covered, there were piles of grass all over and the grass / weeds on the walk down to the creek were knee high.

The firepit was full of trash and glass. I didn't even bother with it. It was also closer to my neighbor than my campsite. His firepit was an old rim.

Very little gravel to park the RV on. Mostly grass.

No room between campers. My neighbors awning was basically on top of my hookups.

Despite a lengthy list of rules, I didn't see any being enforced. Neighbors were shooting fireworks, open glass containers all around the water, no quiet time enforcement, etc...

Beautiful campsites near a small lake. Very quiet. Forest Service campground with electric and water. $16 a night or $10 with senior pass. No cell service- a big plus for me!

    Spacious lakefront sites

Great, quiet park with lots of walking and biking trails nearby. All the sites are wooded and spaced out so you don’t have any issues with privacy. From what we could tell, all of the sites have direct lake access. We visited in July and because of the tree coverage, we were able to sit outside most of the day without getting too hot. This is definitely one of our new favorite parks!

    New Site

We stayed at the newly built “blue site”. We enjoyed that it was secluded from the other campers and not crowded! There was a view of the lower lake. However the lower lake doesn’t have a big stock of fish (not for our experience). With this being newly built the asphalt seemed to give a little and even just sitting in our chairs made indentation. There is a small fire pit (we didn’t use this). With it being a new site there was some red mudd the got scattered after a short rain shower (mostly from our littles). We visited the “beach” one day and the water was super warm. There’s a cute little waterfall down a walking trail behind lot 27 in the red sites. There are two bath houses available for campers only. They are not cleaned to my standards (but I’m OCD). There are state inmates during the day that ride around and pick up your trash from your sites. It did not appear to have a guard with them! Overall it was an okay short trip and cheap if you have kids to go to the beach and little park they have! The blue sites did not have much shade so it was pretty hot being July! The red sites are more shaded and seemed cooler!!

Plenty of walking, and biking over the dam into Alabama! Beautiful lake for swimming, canoes, or kayaking.

    Campground Needs Attention

    PROS

Site 27- pull-thru gravel. Very nice moveable 6 ft metal picnic table; fire ring with cooking grate; pedestal BBQ grill

    Campground very quiet Sunday-Tuesday nights

Frequent ranger drive thrus of the campground

    T Mobile 3 bars

    CONS

Upon arrival, power outage due to storm and lasted until dark. Check-in was not able to be completed so had to return the next day.

Paid a transaction fee for making my own on-line reservation along with a resort fee and sales tax

    No senior or Veteran discount

    Site 27 greatly unlevel side-to-side

Fire ring full of ash upon arrival

Street light at Site 28 that lights up all of 28 and most of 27 and 27A.

Extremely tight at checkin station. We had to park partially on AL281. There is a very small parking lot at the check-in station with no loop around

No trash receptacle in either men’s or woman’s toilets

Campground noisy Friday and Saturday nights. Lots of loud music.

    Bathhouse not serviced over weekend

Large rocks throughout the campground had been painted

(by children) an unsightly vivid paint

    Don’t Miss

Climbing to the top of the CCC Bunker Observation Tower

    Hiking out to Bald Rock

    Berman Museum in Anniston

Watch—some pull-thru sites have the camper door facing the campground roadway with the picnic table and campfire ring along the campground roadway.

    Beautiful campground

This campground is so beautiful. We walked all of the loops. Some are pretty steep. We were in a buddy site that backed up to the lake. The water was a bit icky looking (not just from the red clay, but it had a layer of algae on it). We rode our bikes to the damn area, which was really cool!

Long term camping with a family atmosphere

This is a great campground that has ONLY long term camping so you really get to know your neighbors. The power is not included but the prices are very reasonable.

Our lot is spacious, gravel pad with a cement patio.
