    Absaroka Bay RV Park

    Below average

No cable TV. WiFi is weak. No pool. Cement floors in restrooms and laundry. No shade. Small rv pull throughs. Expensive compared to other facilities with more amenities. Our site was next to a major roadway with traffic noises all night.

Horseshoe Bend Campground — Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area

Beautiful area but people are loud

This campground has really gorgeous scenery. The picnic tables, fire pits and sun/wind shades are all newer and well kept. Clearly states bear area and to keep all foods properly contained. However as far as I've seen there are only bear boxes in the picnic area by the marina and there's really no trees around. You would have to use a bear safe container or the sun/wind shades to hang your food if your in a tent but not all sites have them. A lot of sites have water and electric in loops A and B. There is a water fill and dump station on the road before the turn off of the campground. The potable water has a nozzle on it and you can not hook a hose to it. However the sites with water have a normal garden hose spigot. My only complaint would be the people are inconsiderate and quite loud all day and there's not many people here. It's not even half full but some are clearly quite drunk most of the day. There's a family that pulled in and set up right around 10 pm right next to us. Banging and screaming about for over an hour. Our neighbors just let their dog run loose. Ive found discarded fish carcasses that someone had filleted and just tossed behind a bush. Also a lot of trash all over the place. The first site in loop A is marked as the host...I've never seen them so clearly they dont care. So as long as you dont want peace and quiet then this place is fine. I cant imagine what it's like when it's mostly full on the weekend. We really wanted to see the canyon though so we opted to stay here for the night on the way to Custer national forest.

    Lovell Camper Park

Quiet campground on the edge of town.

The park is nestled between a local play park and a ballpark and residential homes. It has 5 pull through site, 2 back in sites. All sites are nicely shaded. Has restroom, shower and you can fill water jugs. No electric but has a dump station.

    Friendly!

Friendly staff! Great visit for two weeks in our fifth wheel. Plenty of room for the trailer and truck. The restrooms were very clean and the laundry was in good shape. Cody has so much to do you need at least a week. We went in May and want to go back in the summer to see the rodeo.

    Absaroka Bay RV Park

Well Kept RV Park and Nice Owner

Stayed here with no reservation in October but based on location, cost and facility would not recommend for summer - would make reservation.   The sites are mostly pull through and are full hook up.  The laundry room is very clean.  It is attached to the bathroom/shower house.   The location is very close to the  town of Cody and grocery stores and gas stations.   We have Verizon and T-Mobile and both had good service.  WIFi is also provided.  There is a small market and they sell propane.

Be sure to visit town and the Irma Hotel and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

    Bridger City Campground

Great town park full-hookup camping for cheap!

Full hookups (30/20A electrical, water and sewer) for $20/night, what more could you ask for? This is a terrific campground in Bridger's town park, where they've set up 6 pull-through campsites on grass pads with partial shade. There's a swimming pool in the park, and within walking distance of a few blocks you'll find the small but surprisingly complete Valley Foods with excellent meat, a pizza joint, inexpensive gas/diesel/propane at the local ranch store, auto service, auto parts, around a half dozen friendly taverns, and more. If you need more, Billings is around 45 minutes and there's a Walmart in Laurel, about a half hour away.

Without exception we've found the townspeople to be very warm and welcoming, too.

Sites are set up to oppose one another with a shared pedestal in between, so scout your site first to decide which way you're going to pull in. If you come in off of East Broadway, watch your overhead clearance on the trees. Drop your payment in a locked box along the East Broadway side of the campground.

Depending on where you're coming from and which gate you're heading to, this could well be right on your way to Yellowstone, and it's worthy of a stop for a night or even longer. It's within easy daytrip distance of Little Bighorn Battlefield, Red Lodge, the Beartooth Highway and more.

    Lovell Camper Park

Not a destination, but excellent services

What a gem this find was! Free camping with showers and bathrooms as clean as home, close to restaurants and a cute movie theater, and close to the Bighorn Canyon with great wildlife. I took advantage of its location to head towards Cody to visit the Heart Mountain Internment Camp interpretive center as well as to head up Bighorn Canyon to look for wild horses in the Pryor Range. There are about 8 RV pull through sites and about 5 or 6 tent sites, all with picnic tables available(although some tent sites share a table). The tent pads are not really dedicated pads, but they are covered in wood mulch, so they are nice and soft. You do get a little noise and dust from the nearby ballfields, and it was really windy the afternoon I showed up so I was glad I had extra tie downs for my tent. Once the sun set however, the wind died down. While the campground isn’t a destination site, it’s a great stop off while traveling.

    Absaroka Bay RV Park

    Just outside Cody ...

... clean, quiet ( although the campground sits between two streets) and very affordable (winter rate $30 for FHU). Most sites are pull-through with a picnic table and green grass. Fantastic WiFi.  ooo LTE for t-mobile, and oooo LTE for Verizon.

Guide to Lovell

The Bighorn Canyon Recreation Area near Lovell, Wyoming sits at approximately 4,100 feet elevation and features dramatic limestone cliffs rising over 1,000 feet above the Bighorn River. Weather can change rapidly in this high desert region, with summer temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F during the day but dropping significantly at night. Most campgrounds in the area remain open from May through September, with limited winter camping options.

What to do

Fishing at trout ponds: At Cody Trout Ranch Camp, campers can fish in the stocked trout pond when not exploring the region. "There's so much to do here! My littles (6&8) loved the playground, the fishing pond, it's far enough from the road to be quiet and safe," notes one visitor. The ranch is located about 40 miles from Lovell.

Wildlife viewing: Areas around Horseshoe Bend Campground offer opportunities to spot local wildlife. "We heard coyotes our first night but did not see any wildlife. The campsite is conveniently located next to the horseshoe bend marina, where you can rent kayaks and canoes, and I think they rent boats as well," shares one camper who visited the area.

Boat tours: Take a canyon boat ride from the marina near Horseshoe Bend Campground. According to a visitor, the campground host "had great ideas about taking the canyon boat ride (about $40 for a two hour tour), checking out Devils Canyon, or looking for bighorn sheep and Pryor Mountain wild horses (both of which I saw!)."

What campers like

Spacious sites: The campgrounds around Lovell typically provide ample space between sites. "The sites were spacious, some with electric and water. The facilities were clean and even flushed! Hiking trails galore, and the boat ramp was easily accessible," reports a visitor to Horseshoe Bend Campground.

Dark skies for stargazing: The remote location offers excellent night sky viewing. "Sky is very, very dark and you can see so much on a clear night. Great for anybody with an astronomy hobby!" notes a camper at Horseshoe Bend Campground. Areas away from town lights provide the best viewing conditions.

Clean facilities: Buffalo Bluff RV Park maintains high standards for their amenities. "Clean and very nice bathrooms with showers. Like home. Internet is good. Away from noisy interstates," mentions a recent visitor. Another camper adds, "The sites are little tight, but very level. Clean showers and laundry facility."

What you should know

Temperature fluctuations: Prepare for both hot days and cool nights. A camper at Horseshoe Bend Campground reports, "This campsite is very flat! There's no shade, so be prepared to be hot. The first night got chilly at night but was perfect. The second night was incredibly windy so we couldn't have a fire."

Cell service variability: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. At Perry's RV and Campgrounds, about 40 miles from Lovell, visitors reported good service, while more remote locations may have limited connectivity. This differs from established parks near town.

Limited shade options: Many campgrounds in the area lack significant tree cover. "It's new so the trees are pretty young still," notes a camper at Cody Trout Ranch Camp. At Horseshoe Bend, a visitor advises, "I highly suggest you pay the extra couple bucks for a site with the covered picnic table to get some shade."

Tips for camping with families

Bear safety protocols: Properly store food when camping in this region. "Clearly states bear area and to keep all foods properly contained. However as far as I've seen there are only bear boxes in the picnic area by the marina," reports a visitor at Horseshoe Bend Campground, noting the limited availability of bear boxes.

Kid-friendly activities: Trail Creek & Barry's Landing Campground provides a quieter environment for families. "This campsite is tucked away in a valley, humidity is usually low so u can beat the summer heat by staying in the shade. Very quite. Not many people visit this place," shares one camper.

Playground access: Some RV parks offer dedicated play areas for children. As one visitor to Cody Trout Ranch Camp mentioned, "My littles (6&8) loved the playground, the fishing pond, it's far enough from the road to be quiet and safe." Consider campgrounds with these amenities when planning RV camping near Lovell with children.

Tips from RVers

Power reliability concerns: Be prepared for possible outages at some locations. At Cody Trout Ranch Camp, one RVer noted: "We lost power twice while we were there. The local power company needs to trim some trees or update the grid." Consider having backup power options if depending on electricity.

Site specifications: Absaroka Bay RV Park offers pull-through sites but space can be limited. "All pull-thru sites. 50, 30 and 20 amp service with water and sewer. Sites are short. When we checked in they asked us to park behind are bumper pull camper. The site was to short. So the said we could park in the next site over," reports one RVer.

Hard water issues: Some parks use irrigation systems that may affect your vehicle. "One other point of concern is that the campground waters every night, with very hard water that leaves tough to remove spots on you camper and vehicle. Get them off ASAP," warns a visitor to Absaroka Bay RV Park, located about an hour from Lovell.
