The rough access road to North Tongue winds through forested terrain before opening to a compact campground where Little Willow Creek flows nearby. This Forest Service facility operates from early June through mid-September, accommodating RVs up to 100 feet across fewer than 15 sites that sit relatively close together.

Campers consistently mention the abundant wildlife and creek access that compensate for the tight site spacing. Two water pumps provide cold drinking water, while vault toilets receive regular maintenance from attentive hosts who also sell firewood through a drop box system. The nearby Bear Lodge Resort offers shower facilities for $2, less than a mile south of the campground.

The Burgess Picnic Area sits within walking distance, featuring waterfalls downstream along the creek. Highway 14 Alternate provides the primary access route, though campers report steep grades that require caution during snowy conditions. Cindy B. calls it the "Best Campground on the north side of the mountain." Cell service reaches some sites, with Starlink reception reported at site 12.

Day traffic on a nearby service road creates occasional noise, though the campground maintains a generally quiet atmosphere. The Tongue River lies within easy walking or driving distance for fishing access.

Fee Info

Two non-towed vehicles allowed per site. The first vehicle is included in the basic fee; the second vehicle will be charged an extra $9.00/day fee at the campground. Firewood bundles may be purchased from the campground host.

Small, remote campground with stunning views and excellent hosts. Sites are close together but well-maintained facilities and nearby creek access make up for limited spacing.

Beautiful Campground

Spent 4 months at North Tongue as host. Best Campground on the north side of the mountain, imo. All the Campground in the Big Horn forest are excellent, well maintained with access to so many scenic routes for 4 wheeling or hiking. Love the Big Horns!! Especially fond of North Tongue Campground at Burgess Junction.

Breathtaking views & moose everywhere!

Small campground with sites a bit close together, however, the nearby creek and abundance of wildlife, as well as the views from the campground entrance make up for this. There are 2 water pumps with cold water and the vault toilets are extremely well maintained.

Campground hosts were helpful and sold firewood with a drop box to pay.

Showers are offered for $2 at thr nearby Bear Lodge, not 5 minutes away.

The Burgess Picnic area is within walking distance and has beautiful waterfalls downstream.

Peaceful

Nice little campground on Little Willow Creek. sites are nice, but a bit close to neighbors. Quiet overall except for some day traffic on nearby service road. Excellent walk/drive access to Tongue River. Hosts were amazing!

Remote and Peaceful

This small (less than 15 sites) campground was quite and remote. The steep drives made for gorgeous views. 14 Alternate is quite steep, be careful if its snowy out! We had a quite little site, few other campers (shortly after labor day weekend).
