Best RV Parks & Resorts near Union, WA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks provide accommodations near Union, Washington along Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor offers 102 full-hookup RV sites with 30/50-amp electric connections, water, sewer, and a sanitary dump station on level gravel pads. Little Creek Casino Resort RV Park in Shelton features year-round availability with 50-amp hookups and sewer connections for larger rigs. "We picked a 50 ft site which allowed us to park the RV and still have room for our towed car," noted one camper about Little Creek's layout considerations. Rest-A-While RV Park in Hoodsport provides waterfront sites with full hookups, though spaces can be tight for larger vehicles. The Waterfront at Potlatch accommodates RVs with views of Hood Canal, though highway noise may be noticeable.

Fall through spring seasons typically offer better availability at Hood Canal RV parks, while summer weekends often require reservations weeks in advance. Highway 101 provides the main access route to most facilities, with some parks requiring careful navigation on narrow side roads. Cell service varies throughout the region, with stronger signals near Shelton and Gig Harbor than in more remote locations between Hoodsport and Brinnon. Most parks offer basic amenities including showers, toilets and trash service, though laundry facilities are limited to Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor and a few others. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, visitors should note that several parks have close site spacing - one reviewer mentioned that at Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor "the spaces are very close together, but there are a lot of trees and it's very well kept."

    Cedar Glen RV Park

great long-term or quick on the way

There are several long term campers here. The grounds are kept immaculate and they regularly update the sites.  They hang wreaths for the winter holidays. Lawns mowed weekly.

All are level gravel. All have grass area, some with patio pad. There is a dog walk area and they are currently creating a dog fenced area at the end orf the two rows.

A caretaker is on site and will often help guide rigs into the sites (all are back-in).

Close to Poulsbo (a cute, Norwegian heritage town), Seattle ferry via Bainbridge Island and just over an hour to the Olympic National Park via the Hood Canal Bridge.

    Hoquiam River RV Park

    Close to beaches

This campground is about 45 minutes south of Quinault Lake in Olympic NP. So it adds a lot of extra time and miles to explore ONP. It is about 20 minutes to the beaches, which was great. You can drive your car right up onto the beach, which was awesome. The showers and laundry were very clean. Site were full hookups, but very close together. Sites are very close together with no privacy. There are many long-term RV's here. The area fronting the river is very well landscaped and offers fire rings, benches, grills, and a nature path to walk your dog.

    Lake Sylvia State Park Campground

    Hidden Gem

Set in a former logging camp above the town of Montesano, park life revolves around a large swimming and fishing lake. This site is super family friendly and pet friendly too.

There is a playground on site and TONS of old logging roses turned bike trails.

There are plenty of tent and RV sites and s few primitive sites for campers. There are showers a flushing toilets.

    Riverbend Campground

    Nice campground with friendly staff

Interesting the other review was for a first time out with their travel trailer!  Same for us!

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river.  The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.

This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive.  So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab.  Didn't see other sites like this.

The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks.  They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.

The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections.  they do have a nice dump station.

The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.

We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.

Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.

    Evergreen Coho SKP Park

    For Escapee members only

Wonderful RV park for long term Escapee-ers or members just passing through. We stopped here for a night, arriving on the weekend with no prior reservations or contact with them. They make it easy for you to self register when they're closed on weekends, just go up to the office and take one of their welcome packets.

We stayed in a dry camp site for only $7.50, and paid $5 for the dump (dump is only for members as well). FHU sites are around $33 depending on in-season/off-season, but I don't know how we would have figured out which sites were available. There are so many activities and amenities here for the long termers (I believe it's a 55+ park), I couldn't even list them all.

Showers and laundry were clean and efficient. There's a dog park and a dog walking path (there are signs everywhere about not letting your dog pee or poo on their nice plants). Cell service was good and they have good wifi as well. This would definitely be a spot we'd stop at again when we're in the area next.

    Artic Park

    Perfect Nature Campground

If you are looking for a cammpground that is not large and crowded and is what they used to be like, then this is for you. This privately owned campground has full hookups and tent sites. It has clean showers and restrooms, a rec room, and laundry. There is a tank dump and propane. You also have a bar/restaurant next door. There are 20 acres with trails that take you along a creek and a thick forest that includes wild berries. This is a welcome escape from the crazy world and crowded campgrounds.

    American Lake Camp Ground (JBLM)

Good little camp ground on post with almost everything you need. It is in the wilderness, on the lake, but it is also fairly close to stores and gas stations. Long term max is 28 days per spot. All hookups available trash laundry showers bathrooms fire pits as well as grills all in each spot

    Saltwater State Park Campground

Great state park on the bay for airplane lovers!!

Staying two nights in the "preferred" #17 campsite. Parking was wide enough to fit my RV and my son's big Panel Truck. Pay showers ($1 for 3 minutes) and clean restroom with air dryer, pet friendly, lots of trails to hike and a beautiful beach area with a playground, seasonal/weekend snack shop, outdoor shower by the beach and full-time host. We paid $37 (+10 for extra vehicle) for one of the few "camper preferred" sites, but the normal rate is $25 (least preferred site) and $32 (average preference)and the only difference in the sites appears to be where in the campground they are located. We were at the end of the campground next to the camp host and a disabled access site, directly across from the showers. Great cell coverage for my T-Mobile plan. ***Commercial jets landing at Sea-Tac fly directly above us at a low altitude and are VERY loud and VERY frequent (every 3-5 minutes), so if you don't mind the noise, or LOVE airplanes (like we do), this is an Awesome campground!!!

    Dosewallips State Park Campground

    Gorgeous location

This campground is right next to a state park. It’s also very close to a river and lots of woods. We stayed here to see Olympic national park, (I wouldn’t recommend this location to travel to Olympic every day, it was very far.)

The amenities were nice, bathrooms with warm water (one shower per bathroom.)

No laundry, no Wi-Fi and both Verizon and AT&T worked with about one bar.

The sites were level spacious and had a fire ring and picnic table at each. We chose the full hookup option. Firewood could be purchased through the camp host.

The best part about this day was the surrounding area. Every night, my husband and I would walk to the wildlife viewing platform to see lots of birds, or walk down by the river and see lots of elk and bald eagles.

Guide to Union

Most RV parks near Union, Washington sit along Hood Canal at elevations between 10-50 feet, with mountain backdrops reaching 2,000+ feet. Weather remains mild year-round with summer highs around 75°F and winter lows rarely below 35°F. Road access varies significantly between parks, with some requiring navigation through steep, narrow side roads off Highway 101.

What to do

Oyster harvesting on property: At Rest-A-While RV Park in Hoodsport, guests can harvest seafood right on site. "You can dig for clams and oysters by paying cash to the office for your gatherings. No dogs are allowed on the beach," explains Jennifer K. The park offers waterfront access with calm waters.

Explore nearby forests: The Olympic National Forest provides numerous hiking opportunities within a short drive of most Hood Canal RV parks. One Cove RV Park visitor noted, "Nice location for hiking or boating in the Hood Canal area," making it a convenient base for day trips into the wilderness.

Beach access: Many parks offer direct or nearby beach access. At Hoquiam River RV Park, "You can drive your car right up onto the beach, which was awesome," according to Paul B., who appreciated the convenience despite noting this park is "about 20 minutes to the beaches."

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor receives consistent praise for upkeep. "Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. I've stayed here numerous times over the past few years and this place is consistently amazing," reports Joseph I. Another camper, Jacob P., added, "Nice bathroom and showers. Laundry, dog run, tv room, plus really friendly employees!!!"

Convenience to shopping: Many parks offer proximity to necessary services. "Waterfront is right down the street. Costco, Home Depot, Albertsons and other shopping close by," notes Jacob P. about Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, which can be important for longer stays.

Pet-friendly amenities: Several parks accommodate pets with special facilities. "They even had a dog wash," mentioned Sunflower E. about Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor. Most parks in the area permit pets with varying restrictions, though beach areas often have specific rules about dogs.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Many parks have limited space between sites. At Rest-A-While RV Park, "Grounds are aged, but well maintained. Filled with full time residents," according to Darren N. Consider this when booking if privacy is important.

Road noise can be an issue: Several parks along Highway 101 experience traffic noise. Jennifer K. notes about Rest-A-While, "Oceanside view is right off a busy 2 lane road so you hear the cars."

Seasonal considerations: While summer offers warmer weather, it brings more crowds. Joe C. mentions about Washington Land Yacht Harbor, "Hot in summers and I am sure very cold in winters," highlighting the temperature variations to expect.

Tips for camping with families

Limited child amenities: Several parks lack dedicated children's facilities. Joseph I. notes about Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor: "Pet friendly, but not many attractions for children (no playground, no pool)." Plan to bring your own entertainment if traveling with kids.

Special events: Some campgrounds offer unexpected bonuses. At Cove RV Park, one camper enjoyed "free Saturday night ribs and chicken" which made "a great surprise!" These community gatherings can enhance a family stay.

Grocery options: On-site stores can be convenient for families. Cove RV Park "has a good stock of stuff," according to Adrian H., which can reduce trips to town for forgotten items or last-minute needs.

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: When booking at Little Creek Casino Resort RV Park, "Make sure you get a site that is large enough for both the RV and your vehicle as there is no extra parking," advises one reviewer. This practical consideration affects many parks in the area.

Hookup positioning: At some parks, the utility connections require extra equipment. Joe C. cautions that at Washington Land Yacht Harbor, "All connections are in the back so imagine hooking up at a parking lot at the concrete stoppers. Sewer and electric, make sure you got enough tubes and extensions."

Check-in procedures vary: Some parks have specific requirements upon arrival. "Requiring more info on your rigs than any other place I've stayed. Insurance and a member actually does an inspection of rig when you arrive," reports Joe C. about Washington Land Yacht Harbor.
