Nice Little Spot!

Nice little camping spot close to Hoodsport and hiking at Olympic National Park. I stayed in a spot with full hookups and have a 22’ travel trailer. The spots are a bit close together and a bit difficult backing in to, but the spots themselves are clean and the park is great! The park is close to the road, but the noise from cars wasn’t too terrible. Cellphone service through Verizon was good and the trailer’s antennae picked up about 25 TV channels.

Nice campground, no privacy

This campground is convienient located 3 miles away from the scenic town of Hoodsport, and only 30 minutes from Shelton. The water in the hood canal is beautiful, and even though it is along the road it is super quiet.

The caveat to this is that the campsites are dramatically close, so there is little to no privacy if it was busy. I would still stay here again, but only with a camper set up.

Beautiful view, quiet area.

This is such a beautiful spot to visit during nice weather. Its close enough to town if you happen to forget something (which is what I always do) but just far enough out where you can feel the relaxation setting in as soon as your finished setting up your camping gear🤩

Good local option

This is a comfortable sized campground. Some of the sites have at least a little privacy.  Some of the sites are not very level for a tent.  There are some hiking trails that are not too long.  There is also access to the water across the street.  The canal offers options for fishing and shell fish, when in season.

The sites are well maintained. The bathrooms are clean. The campground is accessible for those that need it.

Good Resting Spot

We stayed for 1 night in the RV area so we could have full hook ups. It’s was nice that each spot has water, power AND it’s own sewer hook up.

The reason for only 3 stars was there was absolutely no privacy between sites, and we had neighbors on both sides as well as behind our site was a campsite. We were surrounded by other people when we were hoping for at least some trees between sites.

There is a large park across highway 101. There is a crosswalk and a light to press so cars know you’re crossing the road but it was still a little scary as there is a blind corner that approaches the crosswalk.

The camp host was VERY friendly and gave our daughter a ranger badge which was very thoughtful.

We’d come back, but not for more than a night.

Busy Campground - Scenic Area

I’m in between a 3 and 4 at star review for Potlatch. It’s a nice, wooded campground, but nothing too special. The park staff were super nice and helpful. The bathrooms and showers couldn’t have been cleaner. This campground felt crowded and busy. On Saturday night some sites had a dozen people or more. We lucked out and got site 92, which is way in the back and the most private in the campground. We enjoyed our two nights here, but won’t likely stay here again. We will definitely be back to Hood Canal, which we fell in love with.

Great, Busy Site

Stayed at Potlatch for 1 night.  We booked last-minute, so there were very few options available anywhere near Seattle.  We thought that we'd be stuck with a miserable site, but Potlatch and site 83 both turned out really well!  The hosts at Potlatch were very sweet and the facilities were clean.  Our site turned out to be quite large and with a decent amount of privacy.  Potlatch State Park's day use and beach area is across the highway, so there's plenty of beach and grass there (but no trails, etc.).

Very Nice State Park

We loved camping here. We had a beautiful site tucked in the woods that was very quiet. The beach across the street was really fun for kids and adults and there was loads of lovely hikes nearby.

Beautiful Hood Canal

Our campsite #40 was plenty spacious enough to accommodate our 30’ 5th wheel with room left over to park our truck too. Overhead trees provided a nice shade canopy. Nice walk to the beach from our campsite. Hood Canal is beautiful. It’s close to the Lucky Dog Casino and a place selling freshly caught king salmon that they fillet for you right there. North on 101, don’t miss Hama Hama seafood! We picked up fresh Dungeness crab and local oysters for dinner. Lake Cushman is worth the trip to see although I would skip going all the way to the end of the lake as the road is dusty gravel and very busy.

Depends on the time of year

Depending on the time of year you come here. Will determine what kind of time you'll have. In the summer it's hard to get a spot and it's very crowded. But if you come in the spring and fall is a very lovely place to be.

Next to loud road

How can you give a campground next to the Olympia forest 2 stars? Well, not because it is terrible but in relation to everything else that is available, this isn't the spot I would recommend. It is situated right off of 101 which leads to loud noises all through the night from passing vehicles and the spots aren't exactly spacious. The bathrooms are clean and have soap though! The Hood Canal is right across 101 for you to enjoy your day relaxing but there aren't many trails. We did have large elk in the campground when we were here so you have the chance for wildlife viewing from your tent (or car). As a traveler through the region this would be my last resort camp spot if you are on the way out of the region through Olympia.

tight parking

it’s super tight parking here, backing in can be a challenge. the bathrooms are super clean and the short walk across the highway to hit the sound is amazing.

Great for families

This place is Perfect for families with all size children. There is a small stream running through the side of Some of the camp spots that the kids can play . It's directly across the Street from the beach. That's very easy to get to. If you time it right you can also clam. This is one of our favorite camp spots

Woodsy camp along the Hood Canal but so close to busy road

Always drove by on our way to other campgrounds but decided to stay over. Day use area is on the Hood Canal and very nice. Campground borders a busy highway and traffic noise is bad. Some nice campsites in a wooded loop along a nice little creek for tenters. Rv hookup sites are close together. Might be better if you were camping with friends next to you.

Great spot!

We were looking for a place to sleep after attending a wedding. This is a great place! Would definitely go back just to camp for a while. The sites closer to the back of the campground (where we were) are far away from the road so you can't really hear highway noise at all. Bathrooms were clean (mix of flushing toilets and composting toilets), and there were showers too! Lots of families were camping there, it has great access to the day-use area of Potlatch State Park and this area is just gorgeous!
