      Wine Country RV Park

      Quiet Overnight in Wine Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as an “along the way” stay — grounds that you seek out for a night or two as a place to simply stay the night along your journey to regroup and get some sleep. Ratings for this category are based on: Cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, level ground, accessibility): 4 Noise: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Layout: 4 Customer Service: 5

We only stayed at Wine Country RV Park as an overnight along our way, however, this could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all.

The staff is quite friendly and they offer tastings from local wineries in their community room frequently. It’s worth mentioning that mask-wearing seems to be finished here. To each their own, but I know it’s still very important to some.

The grounds are mostly well-kept though we did see some dog poop as we were walking around and some long term residents that took up more than their own space. The grounds are big-rig friendly and there is some grass between spaces. Premium sites have concrete pads while the lower cost sites are just gravel. The pads are mostly level, but slope upwards in some spots so unhitching can be just a little tricky. There is no privacy between sites, but the sites are wide enough for slide outs and chairs. Hookups were good, wifi was good enough for streaming (the park was only about 1/4 full while we were there). There is a pool and hot tub, both of which were closed for winter, and a small playground and basketball hoop for kids.

Price is reasonable, if a little high, for being in the middle of a bunch of wineries, and they take Good Sam and other membership discounts. The area is quaint with lots of farms (and some of the smells that go along with it). There is a cute bakery just over the bridge in the historic area of town called Jade’s. Give them a visit! Also, for runners/walkers/bikers... there is a very long path system that goes from Prosser and along the highway for miles into Sunnyside! It’s accessible about 1/2 mile from the park. Also walking distance is Vintner’s Village with a series of tasting rooms to visit.

A nice find for both passing through or staying a while longer if you’re into wines!

Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park Campground

      Nice location on the lake

Nice spacious sites. Lots of privacy between sites. No dog park. Great view of the lake from your door. We took a 4 mile, one-way, bike ride to the town of Vantage and then to the Ginkgo Petrified Forest. The town of vantage is very small with a lot of closed shops. Has a gas station and convenience store. That’s about it. Very scenic area and quiet and relaxing.

      Horn Rapids RV Resort

      Great spot

We were passing through and Horn Rapids was perfect for our use. It has a nice little mini mart, drive through spots, full hookups, playground for the kids, clean bathrooms/showers, and allows pets. It is also close to Safeway and right outside the gate is a camper trailer friendly gas station with diesel.

We will definitely be adding this spot to our route again when we pass through.

      Umatilla Marina & RV park

Nice place to go and just relax on your way to your next destination

First of all, the staff is very nice and respectful. The campground is very clean. The bathrooms have showers and are well kept. They provide wifi, water, sewer and power at the sites. It's a bit pricey for being as basic as it is but when you look around at other campgrounds in the area and nationally the price is right in line. Next to Umatilla park so that's a bonus. Marina is just down the hill. Pet friendly. I would stay again.

      Crow Butte Park

      Fun stay

Spent a fun weekend here. Site was easy to back into. Clean and level. Lots of shade and grass. Allows pets (on leash) fun little park for the kids and nice little beach for swimming.

      Crow Butte Park

      clean and enjoyable

A big shout out to Wayne, the camp host. He was such a life saver. The in-line water filter in our fifth wheel blew apart so we were checking to find the nearest RV parts place, on a Saturday evening. Wayne had a spare! He let us borrow his spare water filter for the duration of our stay, which saved us a 2-hour round-trip drive to Prosser.  While the camp hosts are around, visible, and staying busy, they let the campers be campers to enjoy their time.

The water was super calm, so kayaking was very enjoyable. The grounds were clean and green.

      Boardman Marina Park

      Great little stop!

We stayed here in the off season, it’s first come first served parking, which ended up being really great for us. We got to park with a view of the river and away from other RVs. The spaces are large, there is a bathroom and showers on site. There is a nice walking path, and loads of grass and beach and places to walk your dog. We all had a very nice overnight experience.

      Vernita Bridge

      Free campground on Columbia River

This is a Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife fishing access site. It is free with a Washington State Discovery Pass for $30/year. This annual pass will also gain you admission to state parks. There are several boat launch sites here and a number of those Sani Cans. The area is spread out over open land with smooth rocks. It can be a bit bumpy if hauling a trailer unless you stick to the smooth rock roads. No shade except along the shore.

For a free site, it has its good points: easy access to highway 24/243 which will bring you to I-90, quiet, wide open space, near the Vernita Bridge Rest Area for free tank dump site. If you arrive on the last weekend of October, there is a huge king salmon fishing derby with about 100 entrants so you will have company. But, it is usually quiet midweek in the spring and fall. It may be busier in the summer midweek as there are lots of fishing enthusiast ps and boaters who live close by in the Tri Cities area.

If you need a quiet place for one night or are hauling a river fishing boat, this is a good place to stay.

      Scooteney Reservoir Camping

      Pretty neat

We tried to find a campground nearby because it was getting late and somehow this site never popped up on this app for me -but, we ended up seeing a sign for it and turned in and were pleasantly surprised. Water fountains, sinks, flush toilets, fire pits and all of that. There are (harmless) spiders all over the trees and bushes (but I've read that about almost all of the surrounding campgrounds). Not sure whether they enforce payments or not, but the sign said it was $15 per site with $5 for an additional car. This was a nice place to stop in the middle of nowhere. Also, most of the campsites were empty so we were able to have our pick from some great spots. Plus, we made friends with a very friendly cat who was staying there.

    Guide to Prosser

Prosser, Washington offers several pet-friendly camping options within a semi-arid climate that averages only 8 inches of precipitation annually. Located in the Yakima Valley wine region, campgrounds here experience temperature swings of 30-40 degrees between day and night during camping season. Most sites require advance reservations during peak summer weekends from June through September.

    What to do

Wine tasting tours from camp: At Wine Country RV Park, campers have access to local wineries within walking distance. "This is NOT a secluded wilderness campground where you will have a epic back to nature experience. Having said that, if you want a place to park your rv with full hook ups while you explore the local wineries, with a pool and a shuttle van, then this place is amazing," notes Russ H.

Visit historic downtown: The small town of Prosser offers walking-accessible shops from several campgrounds. One camper at Wine Country RV Park recommends, "There is a cute bakery just over the bridge in the historic area of town called Jade's. Give them a visit!"

Outdoor recreation: Beach RV Park provides water access for various activities. "Great site off the freeway- but because it's close, you'll hear cars all night. We were the only tent campers so we had a bunch of space. Fire rings and picnic tables at every site as well as a bunch of firewood," reports Alissa K.

    What campers like

Full-service amenities: Horn Rapids RV Resort offers a comprehensive camping experience with modern facilities. "This RV park is the best maintained park I have ever seen. The lots are not real big, but the landscaping is pristine (think golf course) and overall the park is meticulously maintained," writes Jim J.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campers appreciate the peaceful settings available. One reviewer at The Barn RV Park noted, "The drive here was really nice. Good parking. Clean area very easy parking."

Convenient locations: Pet-friendly campgrounds in this region are strategically positioned near amenities. "We were passing through and Horn Rapids was perfect for our use. It has a nice little mini mart, drive through spots, full hookups, playground for the kids, clean bathrooms/showers, and allows pets," shares Mel S.

    What you should know

Weight restrictions: Some campgrounds limit the size of dogs they accept. At Wine Country RV Park, campers should be aware that "these people must be into froufrou type dogs. 40 POUND LIMIT. We travel with our fur kids (over 40 pounds). Shallow minded management," according to Michael C.

Weather considerations: Plymouth Park Campground visitors should prepare for extreme temperatures. "It does get really really hot here in the summer FYI," warns one reviewer named Mimi.

Seasonal availability: Many campgrounds have different amenities available depending on when you visit. "Place is well maintained and we had more than adequate space but that is due to few campers. Would be a typical rv park spacewise otherwise. Amenities seemed up to snuff and appreciate their dog friendly approach. Local wines at store but no tastings at rv park this time of year," reports Mary F. about Wine Country RV Park in November.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for recreation options: Some campgrounds offer activities specifically for children. "Horn Rapids was perfect for our use. It has a nice little mini mart, drive through spots, full hookups, playground for the kids, clean bathrooms/showers, and allows pets," notes Mel S.

Consider noise factors: When camping with children, noise levels matter. One visitor to Columbia Sun RV Resort observed, "Although you can hear the traffic going by still a nice park. This is the trade off with being close to town but being close to civilization allowed us to go get items we needed."

Check amenity availability: Family-friendly facilities vary by location. Joe C. shares, "We made reservations and have loved the staff! They are great and helpful. The whole park is beautiful and has a wonderful summer wind. Not far from stores and restaurants."

    Tips from RVers

Dedicated pet exercise areas: Pasco Tri-Cities KOA offers specialized spaces for pets of all sizes. "This is a great park with plenty of amenities. Large dog run on far side, with smaller park (no dog run) on new side. Our St. Bernard loved exploring this little area," notes Wesley M.

Site spacing considerations: RVers should research site dimensions before booking. At Horn Rapids RV Resort, "The lots are not real big, but the landscaping is pristine (think golf course) and overall the park is meticulously maintained," according to Jim J.

Hookup availability: Most campgrounds offer full hookups, but specifications vary. Columbia Sun RV Resort provides "Great hookups! Would be nice just to walk through!" says Joe C., while another visitor notes, "Has all the amenities and activities you want in a semi-urban RV resort / glamping get away."
