    Crystal Mountain RV Parking

Great base-camp for winter and summer adventures at Crystal Mountain Resort

Stayed here for the first time in July 2021.  I understand this opened last winter.  Talking to the host, I found out it is far more popular in winter when ski season is open. It was quiet and sparsely filled in July on a Friday and Saturday night.

3 different areas respectively for large RV and 50 amps power, small RVs and 30 amp and tent only area. A fee picnic tables (no benches) available toward the tent only area.  Bathroom are just two sani-cans. Relatively clean.  There is trash and recycling behind the office which is adjacent to the host RV.

Free WI-Fi (the host will give you code) and good LTE connection on AT&T.

Silver Creek runs behind the lot and gives a  bit more of a natural feel. Otherwise you are in a giant parking lot (Lot B).

Can't beat the location for skiing and hiking or biking at Crystal Mountain!

    Cascades RV Resort

    Cascades RV Resort

We are long term RV campers here at Cascades. It is a lovely RV resort with large concrete pads with astroturf lawn and picnic table. Everyone is friendly. Nightly noise is never excessive. Gracie’s place is an onsite cafe that serves food, alcohol, deserts, coffees, and other drinks. You can get package delivery just no USPS. They do offer monthly discounts. Would highly recommend for anyone in an RV.

    North Sound Recreational Vehicle Park

    Simple Urban RV Park

This is very much an RV park and not really a campground. Seems like a clean little park, but right in the middle of Lynnwood, so if you are looking for a rural setting this isn't for you.

They offer weekly and monthly rentals, so this is more of a long-term sort of place.

    Website: Northsound RV Park

    Requirements from their site:

    • Your travel trailer must be year 2005 or newer
    • Pet friendly(limit 2) not to exceed 25 lbs. Aggressive breed restrictions apply.
    • No conversion vehicles - sorry van and bus life people
    • No trailers larger than 35' long, ideally.

    Ike Kinswa State Park Campground

    Camping amongst the tall trees

This campground is on Mayfield Lake where the Cowlitz River flows into the lake. We were in loop D, which was the only open loop along with the cabins (cabins are loop C and attached to loop D). This is a partial hook-up loop. Full hook-ups are in loop A. The campground is heavily wooded which is really nice for shade, though it can make it tricky to get into a spot if you have slide outs. As we were on the outer part of the loop in a pull-through site, we had a view of the woods and quite a bit of space between neighboring sites. We could not see either of the neighboring sites while sitting by our campfire. There was a trail to the trash compactor next to our site, but it did not seem to be heavily used. The trash compactor is probably a good 1/4 mile down this trail by the dump station. It was very quiet at night, which was fantastic! Very good Verizon cell service. The day use area is out of the campground and across the main road. There is a playground and beach area. It would have been nice if there was a playground on the campground side of the park.

    Blue Sky RV Park

    Awesome park

We reserved a space for 1 night the day before. Great communication with Brett, everything went really smooth. The facilities are great and very clean, the park very quiet. There are a lot of big rigs parked there, some of the pm long-term as it seems. We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again.

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Nice place

Nice campground on the SW corner of Mt Rainier NP. We were here in the off season, meaning that reservations are not taken and everything is FCFS. You stop at the ranger office at the campground entrance and you’re given a campsite. $20/night. Zero cell service in this whole area (but there was good cell reception and wifi at Paradise, and free wifi at the museum 2 miles down at Longmire).

There are water spigots at this campground, flush toilets, no showers, trash dumpsters, and glass, plastic, and aluminum recycling. Each site has a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The dump station has been non operational for several years and the ranger said she doesn’t think it’ll ever be fixed.

The length limit here is 35 ft for a motorhome, and us at 28 ft head to toe felt very big here. The Wonderland Trail hike can be accessed from this campground, just across the road. Lots of trees in this campground, and we struggled to keep our batteries charged via solar, though there looked to be enough open sky for starlink (we don’t have starlink so I can’t say). All the loops here in this campground are pretty similar in layout and landscape.

    Cedar Glen RV Park

great long-term or quick on the way

There are several long term campers here. The grounds are kept immaculate and they regularly update the sites.  They hang wreaths for the winter holidays. Lawns mowed weekly.

All are level gravel. All have grass area, some with patio pad. There is a dog walk area and they are currently creating a dog fenced area at the end orf the two rows.

A caretaker is on site and will often help guide rigs into the sites (all are back-in).

Close to Poulsbo (a cute, Norwegian heritage town), Seattle ferry via Bainbridge Island and just over an hour to the Olympic National Park via the Hood Canal Bridge.

    Riverbend Campground

    Nice campground with friendly staff

Interesting the other review was for a first time out with their travel trailer!  Same for us!

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river.  The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.

This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive.  So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab.  Didn't see other sites like this.

The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks.  They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.

The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections.  they do have a nice dump station.

The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.

We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.

Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.

    Elkamp Eastcreek

    Best place in Washington state

This is the cleanest, most cared for camping site I have ever been to. The owners Tom and Brian, make your stay very enjoyable. They care about you having a great experience, whether you’re a first time camper or a seasoned camper. They have a great store with snacks, wine, beer, and local sourced goods. They have games you can use while you are there, like corn hole and board and card games, free of charge. Sites are large for travel trailers and motor homes, they also have tent and group sites. Trailer and motor home sites have power and water, there is a dump station you can use on your way home free of charge. The bathrooms are large and very clean, the shower is 4 quarters for 6 minutes, those of us who try to take a 3 minute shower in our rigs so we don’t run through all the hot water so our partner can have a shower without waiting for the water to get hot again it’s a blessing. In the evening Tom or Brian drive through the park seeing if anyone needs ice or firewood, if there’s not a burn ban, bring a propane fire pit for your camping experience. They also sell propane so no fears on running out. The best thing is you are under a large canopy of trees which helps to keep you cool even on the hottest days. There is a small creek to put your chair in and put your feet in the water. Our first year there we brought 4 other people, this year it was 28. We make Elkcamp our yearly get together. Family friendly and a great place to unwind. You’re only a few miles from mineral lake, bring your trunks, inner tube, or your paddle boards. I’d give it a solid 10 out of 10.

Guide to Lake Tapps

RV camping near Lake Tapps offers access to Mount Rainier and Puget Sound urban centers. Lake Tapps itself spans 4.5 square miles with 45 miles of shoreline and maintains water temperatures between 70-80°F during summer months. Cell coverage varies by carrier with Verizon providing the most consistent signal throughout the region's campgrounds.

What to do

Hiking trails accessibility: At Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, campers find convenient access to nearby outdoor recreation. "Waterfront is right down the street. Costco, Home Depot, Albertsons and other shopping close by," notes Jacob P., highlighting the balance between nature and convenience.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Numerous water birds inhabit the ponds at Lake Pleasant RV Park. "We did not use the bathrooms, but enjoyed the walking trails, playground for the kids, and watching the resident ducks in the pond," shares Nikki R. The park's natural setting attracts various wildlife despite its proximity to urban areas.

Winter activities: Campgrounds in the region maintain operations throughout winter months with adjusted amenities. "We are here in November for a week. The staff are friendly and helpful. Lots of trees in our section separating us but in other sections you're really close to each other," reports one camper at Tall Chief Campground, indicating the seasonal variations in privacy and spacing.

What campers like

Private sites: Tall Chief Campground receives praise for spacious sites. "We love Tall Chief because it is super close to a lot of great spots around the Seattle region... Most sites are pretty big too. We can easily fit our trailer, tow vehicle, and extra vehicle and still have space!" explains Brodie D. The forested setting creates natural privacy between many sites.

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds prioritize cleanliness, particularly appreciated at Blue Sky RV Park. "The new and clean bathrooms and showers were a real treat after a 2100 mile journey from Texas," shares Todd B., describing the park as "A Quiet oasis tucked into the forest."

Affordable laundry: Budget-conscious travelers appreciate reasonably priced laundry facilities. "Laundry machines ($2 washer/$2 dryer) get the job done, with no need to keep feeding the machine," mentions John M. at Lake Pleasant RV Park, while another camper at a different location notes, "Laundry is cheap ($1 wash)."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: During peak seasons, securing spots in advance becomes essential at popular RV sites near Lake Tapps, Washington. "Make reservations in advance! Great place, peaceful, lots of trees," advises John K., emphasizing the importance of planning ahead.

Pet restrictions: Dog-friendly policies vary between campgrounds, with specific designated areas. At Issaquah Village RV Park, "You must walk your dogs off site across the street to relieve themselves... They even provide a poo poop can at the driveway with baggies," explains Wendy R., highlighting the structured pet policies.

Site leveling considerations: RV sites throughout the region have varying degrees of levelness. "The spaces are very close together, but there are a lot of trees and it's very well kept," notes Joseph I., describing Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor. Many campgrounds have gravel pads that may require minor adjustments for larger rigs.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: For families with children, some campgrounds offer recreational facilities. "There is a small playground, dog run and well marked facility," mentions Mareesha B. about Trailer Inns RV Park, though she cautions, "This is not a place for those looking to camp with kids and stay at the camper."

Swimming access: During summer months, water activities provide relief from heat. "Indoor pool, small playground, dog run and well marked facility," lists the same reviewer about amenities suitable for family entertainment at Trailer Inns.

Spacing between sites: Family groups should research site proximity when booking. "Large private or cramped sites based on what you choose and pay for. Some have fire rings. All with picnic tables but you will be sitting right next to your neighbors if you choose the sites in middle section of park," advises mary F. about Enumclaw Expo Center RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Sewer hookups: South Prairie Creek RV Park offers full-service sites for extended stays. "Pretty nice park for a quick stopover or base camp. No picnic tables and only a small outdoor area," notes Katie O., providing context for RVers planning their stay duration.

Site selection for connectivity: Cell reception varies significantly within campgrounds. "Another thing that can be annoying is trying to find a site with good cell reception due to all the trees... I would say arrive early so you can drive by all the sites while checking to make sure you have good reception if you need it," suggests Brodie D., reporting significant speed differences between sites at Tall Chief Campground.

Vehicle size considerations: Many campgrounds accommodate large RVs with specific restrictions. "Stayed 3 months for work, perfect beautiful, CHEEP CHEEP, not too good to be true, just right. All hook ups included. (Bring your dump tote!) easy easy easy dump station," advises David O. about managing long-term stays at Tall Chief Campground with larger rigs.
