What to do
Motorcycle touring routes: Willville Motorcycle Camp sits less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway with dedicated motorcycle camping facilities. "Great motorcycle campground. Clean facilities, friendly host. Good spread of water spigots and electrical outlets if you need to charge your equipment. Lots of great riding in the area and only a couple of minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway," notes Brian F.
Disc golf access: Chantilly Farm RV/Tent Campground & Event Venue in Floyd features a 9-hole disc golf course on site. "They have full hookup RV sites along with dry ones and multiple tent camping options! They also have free wifi along with a brand new 9 hole disc golf course!" shares Stafford W. The course winds through grassy areas with moderately challenging terrain.

Pond and surrounding area are very well maintained," says Alicia L. The pond is stocked seasonally and doesn't require a fishing license since it's on private property.
What campers like
Peaceful surroundings: Greystone RV Park offers unobstructed views of Pilot Mountain from concrete pads. "This park,to be honest when we first arrived, made us ask:'Is this IT??' Our first impressions were that it was a parking lot. But after we set up, and caught out breath, we realized that this park is EXACTLY what we wanted. The main feature is the view, and what a view it has!" writes Tom.
Clean facilities: Jones Station RV Park maintains exceptionally clean restrooms requiring an entry combination for access. "This is absolutely the nicest privately owned RV Park we've visited anywhere in the country. It's immaculately maintained, the spaces are large, and many of them are shaded," says John D.
Morning coffee spots: Willville Motorcycle Camp provides complimentary coffee each morning where campers gather. "This is a great place to motorcycle camp. Clean showers, big fire pit, free coffee in the morning. Several restaurants nearby," explains John W. The morning coffee gatherings offer opportunities to plan day rides with fellow motorcyclists.
What you should know
Campground size variations: Indian Heritage RV Park in Martinsville offers tent sites on well-maintained grass with river access. "Allows one to pick any available tent spot. People here are very friendly. Tent sites are covered in well-kept grass. There are ground hogs and crawdads. Near a main road, but still very quaint. $25 tent sites," shares Zeek A.
Shower facility conditions: Some campgrounds provide exceptional bathroom facilities while others offer basic options. "Bathhouse is the nicest one I've encountered with a very homey living room like entry, very nice, private bathrooms with showers, and a laundry room," notes a camper at Indian Heritage RV Park.
Site spacing considerations: Campground layouts vary significantly in the region. Tom describes Greystone RV Park: "Each pad is concrete, with a picnic table, fire pit and full hook-ups. This is more for a mature crowd, as there's really nothing here for kids to do (no playground or pool)."
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Sweetwater RV Park includes a playground that families often have to themselves during weekdays. "We went to the playground to play and pool to swim - had it to ourselves - with our 18 month old. I would say this campground has achieved the 'family-friendly' atmosphere, for sure!" writes Stephanie L.
Pool availability: Lake Ridge RV Resort features swimming pools with occasional movie screenings. "Great campground for families. Pools, fishing, and golf cart rentals available. Plenty of space for RVs/campers," reports Melinda J. The pools typically operate from Memorial Day through early September.
Event scheduling: Some campgrounds host family-friendly events throughout camping season. "Sometimes they have music and cook outs. The people who run it are always very helpful and are always trying to make things nice," shares Jack and Lisa L. about Lake Ridge RV Resort's holiday weekend activities.
Tips from RVers
Site levelness: Black Dog Acres RV Park provides easy pull-through sites with minimal setup required. "Super easy pull through sites with convenient hookups. No bathrooms so did need to hook up water. Every body was super nice and friendly," says Drew W.
Access road challenges: Routes to campgrounds may include narrow roads with low-hanging branches. "We had the opportunity to stay a couple of nights at this campground on our way to the east coast. Wow, getting there was quite a journey over narrow curvy roads but once there it was a nice area," notes Don L. about Chantilly Farm.
Dump station availability: Love's RV Hookup in Rural Hall offers only five sites but includes a sanitary dump, making it useful for overnight stops. The sites include water, electric, and sewer hookups with shower facilities available at the travel center.
