Swinging Bridge South Campground

With 11 first-come, first-served sites accessible via 20 miles of graded dirt road from I-70, Swinging Bridge South Campground provides basic BLM camping at $15 per night ($7.50 with senior pass). The campground sits on open terrain with scattered trees, offering water hookups but no dump stations or potable water on-site.

Sites accommodate smaller RVs and trailers, though maneuvering space varies between spots. The campground maintains wide spacing between sites, and campers consistently report minimal noise after dark. Cell service remains unavailable throughout the area, making satellite communication necessary for connectivity. Restrooms and picnic tables serve each site, with campfires permitted.

Access proves more manageable from the Utah Highway 10 direction, where pavement extends further before transitioning to dirt roads. Greg I. notes "Access from I-70 is about 20 miles of graded dirt road with occasional washboard." The route passes the Wedge Overlook, adding five miles for those interested in the detour.

The campground serves as a staging point for Little Grand Canyon hiking and provides access to dispersed camping options along Buckhorn Road to the north. Swinging Bridge North Campground sits just 0.2 miles away for campers seeking larger sites. The remote location appeals to visitors prioritizing solitude and dark skies over modern conveniences.

Small primitive campground with comfortable, widely-spaced sites and beautiful views. Campers regularly cited the peaceful atmosphere but noted limited facilities with no water or cell service.

Nice low-fee BLM camp

The scenery is gorgeous, sites are comfy and widely spaced. $15 or half-off for Golden Age. Restrooms and tables. Zilch for cell service, bring your Starlink.

Access from I-70 is about 20 miles of graded dirt road with occasional washboard. From the other direction (UT-10), most of the road is much better, and there's the Wedge Overlook along the way (5-mile side trip).

If you prefer a bit more privacy, there are single campsites way up Buckhorn Road to the north.

Nice CG for smaller rigs.

This is the sister CG to the North Swinging Bridge CG. This CG has much smaller sites and only a few will allow a larger TT to get backed in ok. 11 sites, $15/$7.50 senior. NO WATER, NO DUMPSTERS, NO CELL SIGNAL. All sites are fcfs, no reservations. Views are fantastic and night sky stars also. Very quiet at night. However to get here you have to drive 20-25 miles of gravel roads.

Great spot for Little Grand Canyon hike

This campground is small, primitive, and quiet. We stayed here for a night before starting the Little Grand Canyon hike, just across (and up) the road. It was the perfect place to stay for a short rest before venturing out on our journey. We were there in early Spring and we only had two neighbors. Since it's a BLM campground, you can bring your dog, which is great for the area. The sunrise was beautiful, it made for a great start to our day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is San Rafael Swinging Bridge Campground located in Utah?

San Rafael Swinging Bridge Campground is nestled in the San Rafael Swell area of Utah. The campground can be accessed either from I-70 via approximately 20 miles of graded dirt road (which occasionally has washboard sections) or from UT-10. It's strategically positioned near the Little Grand Canyon hiking trail, making it an excellent basecamp for exploring this scenic area. The campground offers fantastic views of the surrounding landscape and is known for its remote, quiet setting.
