"If you’re ever taking that route through Utah and need a place to crash I would recommend this to anyone!"
We spent just one night. We stayed on the side of the lake where the ground was harder, so loose sand wouldn't be a problem. Some bugs, but not to the point of being annoying.
This campground is really well maintained and the FF sites were empty except for mine and another all weekend so don't worry if the reservation area is full. The state park is nice for petroglyphs but that's about it with a few short hikes. One hiking trail in camp. Piute res and some nice hiking, the hot springs are all at least 45 minutes but for leaving my camper (15ft aframe) as a home base here I'm happy. Verizon and T-Mobile service enough for hot spot and road is drivable for any rig.
Great views, quiet, only downside is no cell service.
Great spot for camping with a group. Quite a few spots accessible by car. A couple fireplaces here and there too. A fair amount of fallen pine and juniper wood there to use for building fires. Just remember to drown out your fires with water (there’s a sign).
I do not recommend tent camping here solo though. This wasn’t my first time tent camping solo either. As I was laying in my sleeping bag inside my tent around 11pm, some creature started stalking me around midnight. I could hear it moving and breathing outside my tent. I managed to scare it off by hitting my car’s “panic button” on the keys. I then packed up immediately and left.
You need permission to hike in. When we showed up, there were turkey hunters already up there. I would do much more research than we did before going to make sure it’s open
This was a super easy on and off, clean, new, nice amenities, not very crowded and right at the gas stations. The views were beautiful
Medium sized campground. They close at 4 so if you’re expecting to be taken to your site as their website indicates be prepared to be disappointed. We had a devil of a time finding our site as the map they gave us was unclear as it apparently was for other folks that came in when we did. The manager (I think) came out as I was walking around trying to find our site # and said no way would we fit in that site. So she moved us to a larger one with a patio and chairs which was nice. Gravel sites- ours had the fake grass that actually made it pretty. It’s ok for a one night stop but don’t think you’d want to stay longer.
Small (24ish sites - but gravel pads, and level for the most part) campground but beautiful! Prettier than some national parks we’ve been to! Great hike up the canyon!
The road is well maintained. I drove my small 25’ RV down it easily. The spring is large enough to accommodate 20 people is. The main spring is right around a 100• comfortable enough that you are never too hot or too cold. It’s only about 5 miles of the main highway. It’s worth a stop.
