The 400-site Charge Pond Campground spreads across multiple loops within Myles Standish State Forest, offering both developed camping and access to miles of wooded trails. Sites vary considerably in privacy and spacing, with some loops providing more separation between neighbors than others. Each loop centers around a bathhouse with showers, though hot water availability can be inconsistent.
Campers describe the atmosphere as generally quiet during weekdays, with significantly more activity on Friday and Saturday nights. "We felt most people respected quiet hours and there were even empty sites in our loop," notes Kim R. about a Memorial Day weekend stay. The pond itself offers clear spring-fed water suitable for swimming and fishing, with a sandy beach area and decent-sized fish reported by multiple visitors.
The campground provides access to both paved and mountain bike trails throughout the forest, though reviewers recommend picking up a detailed trail map from the visitor center in town rather than relying on the basic map provided at check-in. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table, with water spigots distributed throughout the loops and a central dump station available.
Check-in can take 30 minutes or more during busy periods, and bathroom cleanliness varies significantly depending on staffing and timing. Cell service remains spotty in many areas of the campground. The town of Plymouth sits about 10 minutes away for supplies, though no camp store operates on-site. For additional camping options in the region, campers can explore places to camp around South Carver.
Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for weekend stays when the campground often reaches capacity.
