Shade trees and flush toilets

Soldiers bluff is a nice little Corp of Engineers campground next to Whitney dam and across from the Corp headquarters. Campground is grassy and covered with shade tree canopies. Campsites can be quite close together, offering little privacy. Picnic tables are provided, but bring your own canopy.

With rain, the park does become flooded, especially encroaching the day use picnic areas.

Additional notes are lots of highway noise, be prepared to hear the spillway siren sounding when the lake is high as flood gates get opened.

Very nice camp hosts that check on campers daily and after storms, etc.

Site Had Trespassing Signs

The pinned location had a locked gate and trespassing signs. Tried to drive down a bit further but encountered a lot more trespassing signs. Perhaps it would have been OK in some areas, but I didn’t see too many camper setups and I didn’t want to risk it for the biscuit. I’d recommend going to another area.

Nice find for a free spot!

This campground is a little bit in the middle of nowhere, but it is free! There are water spigots scattered through the park and a flush toilet nearby. Not very many sites though, so arrive early as they’re not reservable. And if you use solar to boondocks, be aware that many of the sites are full shade.
