Best RV Parks & Resorts near Steinhagen Lake

Several RV parks near Steinhagen Lake provide full-hookup accommodations with varied amenities. Triple Creek RV Music Park offers 75 sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections, though access requires navigating a challenging dirt road. Country Club RV Resort features spacious sites with 50-amp service, sewer hookups, and water connections, accommodating large RVs in a year-round setting. "The rv park is very nice. The staff and owners are great. The park is well maintained and has beautiful views," noted one visitor about Country Club. Rainbow's End RV Park in Livingston provides full-hookup capabilities with accommodations for big rigs, while Rayburn RV Hideout offers year-round availability with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections in a lakeside setting.

Many RV sites throughout the region feature concrete or asphalt pads requiring leveling blocks on uneven terrain. Facilities vary considerably between parks, with some offering amenities like laundry rooms, trash service, and shower facilities while others provide more basic setups. Cell service can be inconsistent, particularly at lakeside locations, with AT&T showing approximately two bars of coverage at Twin Dikes Park. Several reviews mention challenging access conditions, especially after rain. A camper described Triple Creek's approach as "mostly dirt and sugar sand and extremely rough...minimally maintained." Visitors with larger motorhomes should call ahead to confirm site dimensions and turning radius requirements, as some parks feature tight spacing between concrete pads with minimal privacy barriers.

    Rainbow's End RV Park

The Escapees HQ at Rainbows End

If you are a full tie RVer you have probably heard of the Escapees. The Escapees is the largest mail forwarding service and the clyb caters to full time RVers. Livingston TX is their main Headquarters, they do have 2 other semi Headquarters in FL and SD. If you are a full timer you now you need a domicile address and a mailing address for many things, this is how we do it. They have over 17,000 subscribers to their mail forwarding service, we are one of them. We stopped by this July to get our domicile done, vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration etc. It was hot we will not come back in July again.

The campground is split into 2 main areas. They have a lot of deeded lots for you to buy which has houses, motor homes, park trailer or just roof for your RV. They have long term areas, overnighter, short long term, weekly or daily. You do not need to be a member of the Escapees to camp here, but we hear in the winter it does get full.

Camping full hook ups, electric and water, or just dry camping. They have just got some new internet on the area we were camping in and it was good enough to stream. They have a pool, clb house, activity center, 2 laundries, meeting rooms and a lot to do even in the summer. Most site are fairly level most gravel but do have some concrete pads. If it wasn't so hot I am sure we would have enjoyed it even more. One nice thing is they have a care center, areas that you can set up your RV and if you have something wrong with you they will help you out, take you to Drs, provide meals, help you. This is nice for us older folks that we worry about what happens if we need long stay for treatments and we have no home base.

COE Sam Rayburn Reservoir San Augustine Park

Clean, quiet, spacious, and great lake views

1/26/23-1/30/23- This is a great COE campsite that is spacious, clean, quiet, and site#63 has lake views on 3 sides. A picnic table, fire-pit, lantern post, 30A electric, and water are provided. This is a back-in site that slopes significantly to the rear(lake side) though. I needed to lower the front of my 34’ fifth wheel trailer 16” to level it; L/R leveling was reasonable needing 1/2” on the right side. The grassy area around the site would be great for outdoor games and the water access would be great to fish from shore, boat access to the site, or swimming. The staff were very congenial and the dump station is conveniently located on the right side just before exiting the campground. Verizon 4G was 4-bars with 20Mbps download and 2Mbps upload speeds. I paid$13/night with my Interagency Senior Pass. Too bad that it was rainy most of the weekend and we didn’t have nicer weather.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

    Alligator Parish Park Campground

    Clean and quiet

Stayed one night in 30 ft travel trailer (May 2,2022) and we were the only campers. There were other visitors/fisherman but quiet and peaceful. Restrooms clean and spacious. Shower was separate and locked but host would unlock as needed. All 7 pads are gravel, level, elevated above grass—helpful after hard rain— and would accommodate large rigs. Lake or old river course 100 plus feet from campsites. May bring kayaks next time. Road access is good and signs to guide you. One bar cell service. Each site has sewer but not conveniently located—near entrance to site and would require very long hose or require rigs to block access road when dumping This park happened to be along our route to another campground and not along major highway. Nice place to relax overnight or for few days.

    Lake Livingston State Park Campground

    One of Our Favorites

We arrived 151 days after making our on-line reservations for the very busy Memorial Day weekend in Piney Shore Loop campground. This was our fourth camping adventure at Lake Livingston State Park in the Piney Shore Loop.

Pros EXTREMELY quiet during the Memorial Day weekend. Even tho not backed up to

lake, nice view of lake from Site#55. Double concrete pad as it is an accessible campsite. Very level concrete pad; no need to do any type of leveling. Nice early morning shade onto Site#55 Very good privacy from neighbor Site#54 and Site behind#48 Park ranger drive-thru about every four hours Restroom/showers good working condition, clean, ample hand soap and toilet paper. Recently paved park roads very nice upgrade Mosquitoes were drawn to those who strung lots of lights throughout their site, so many did not use those lights which resulted in good dark conditions for night sky viewing. 1-2 bars AT&T cell service. Lowes, Walmart and small HEB close by n the town of Livingston Cons. Campers requiring mobility assistance may find this campsite very challenging, even tho it does have a double wide concrete pad. Site#55 labeled as accessible but is very accessible unfriendly as it is not close to campground toilet shower facilities, fire ring is up a gravel hill on driver side of camper. Piney Shore Loop sewer hook up required 20 feet of stinky slinky. No privacy from Site#56. No privacy from the campground road. Picnic table in mud hole nearly the size of the table and very unleveled with one end higher than the other end. Unable to move picnic table as it is chained to concrete pylon. Picnic table not wheelchair accessible. No afternoon-to-evening shade what-so-ever. Site#56 campers permitted their dog to run without a leash. No park WIFI

    Rainbow's End RV Park

    Good Travel Stop

This park is owned by Escapees RV Club.  We joined Escapees for the benefits, which include discounted camping.  We've stayed at this park several times, particularly when in the learning process for our new RV, as there is a lot of support here.  A lot of full time RV'ers use Rainbow's End as their home base, and a lot of full timers stop here for long periods of time while moving across country.  I always learn a lot from these long time full-timers.

The sites are decent, with gravel driveways and full hookups for both 30 amp and 50 amp.  They have an area for dry camping as well. are not level, so be sure to bring your leveling blocks if your rig does't have a leveling system.

There are a couple of bath houses and laundry facilities.  The bathing areas are kept clean and are spacious, but nothing fancy.  There is a swimming pool which is open in summer, but we've never used it.  They also have a weighing station, although I never used it.  Propane delivery is available once a week.  Sign up in the office if you want to get on the schedule.

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Maiden Voyage

Our first stop in the maiden voyage of our travel trailer and this park was good and kind to us. Beautiful, level pull-thru sites with plenty of space from others, shade and sun and within walking distance to bathhouse and swim beach. Mosquitoes abound and there is no cell signal or wi-fi. Prepare to drive 20 minutes to grocery.

Guide to Steinhagen Lake

RV campgrounds near Steinhagen Lake offer a mix of rustic and modern facilities for visitors to east Texas. The surrounding pine forests create natural buffers between some sites, though terrain varies considerably across the region. Steinhagen Lake area campgrounds experience hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making year-round camping viable with proper preparation.

What to do

Fishing access: At Rayburn RV Hideout, campers can directly access lake waters for fishing. "Great Rv camp ground friendly people," notes Sean H., highlighting the welcoming atmosphere for anglers.

Music events: Triple Creek RV Music Park specializes in live music experiences. Jeremy C. describes it as "a cool site. They have plenty of full hookups available. Pavilions and buildings for gathering to enjoy jam sessions, whether playing or listening. Kids love dancing to the music."

Swimming options: The small beach area at Boomtown USA RV Resort provides water recreation beyond just fishing. Tori K. notes, "The lake has really great fishing and there is a small swimming/beach area. The beach does have a lot of bees or wasps of some sort that are living in the sand so you have to wear shoes until you get in the water."

What campers like

Quiet environment: Many campers value the peaceful atmosphere at certain parks. Randy S. says about Woodsy Hollow Campground & RV Resort: "The campground overall was really very quiet and peaceful. Was approx 2 miles off highway 59. Had a great playground area for kids and we loved walking down to the lake."

Security features: Safety measures are important to RV campers in the region. At Boomtown USA RV Resort, Dayanis P. appreciates the "ease of access and safety," noting "You have to have codes to enter the gates and they have cameras around the property for safety keeping."

Full-timer amenities: Long-term campers find specialized services valuable. Stevann H. writes about Rainbow's End RV Park: "For members, there is a Care Center that we haven't been able to visit due to Covid," referencing the specialized services for full-time RVers.

What you should know

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds can be challenging. JR R. reports about Triple Creek: "The 2.5 mile old logging dirt road to get there was very nasty but doable," adding "I had rained like 4 inches the night before."

Site leveling requirements: Many sites require additional equipment for leveling. At Rainbow's End RV Park, Debbie J. warns, "The sites are decent, with gravel driveways and full hookups for both 30 amp and 50 amp. They have an area for dry camping as well. are not level, so be sure to bring your leveling blocks if your rig does't have a leveling system."

Mobile connectivity issues: Cell service varies significantly across Steinhagen Lake area campgrounds. Rachel H. notes about Rainbow's End: "If you have Tmobile cel phones or hotspots, this is not the RV park for you. We barely had cel phone reception, and our mobile hotspot was all but useless. Verizon works well here."

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: Several RV parks near Steinhagen Lake offer dedicated play areas. Country Club RV Resort provides family-friendly facilities according to Erin R.: "RV park has a pool, playground, driving range, laundry, hook ups, walking trails."

Music entertainment: Families with children might enjoy the entertainment options at Triple Creek. Jeremy C. mentions, "Kids love dancing to the music. Wifi available, too," making it suitable for families seeking evening entertainment.

Swimming facilities: On hot days, pool access becomes essential for families. At Boomtown USA RV Resort, Brian C. recommends, "The newly added premium slots are very nice. Pool and jacuzzi area is wonderful. Very well maintained. Huge lake to enjoy."

Tips from RVers

Late arrival planning: Call ahead if arriving after office hours. JR R. cautions about Triple Creek: "I booked my stay and called ahead that we would be arriving late. I arrived around 10:30 pm. I found the office but it was all dark & locked. There was a recreation room I guess next door that wasn't locked but no maps or signs or anything useful that I could see."

Highway noise considerations: Some parks experience traffic noise disruption. Kelly N. warns about Boomtown USA RV Resort: "Nice park but RIGHT on I-10 and the highway noise is bad. Awesome laundry and bathroom facilities," suggesting selecting sites away from highway-facing boundaries.

Hookup compatibility: Verify electrical connections match your equipment. JR R. notes at Triple Creek: "I drove and walked around looking for an empty spot with 50 amp service. I attempted to try and stay at site 81 but again, no 50amp service. I have severe sleep apnea so power is a must." Always carry adapters for unexpected connection challenges.
