Lone Wolf Creek RV Village offers full hookup sites including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections, remaining open year-round. The park features large pull-through spaces accommodating big rigs. "Spacious sites nice showers clean park," notes one visitor about facilities in the region. MS G's RV Park in nearby Loraine provides RV sites with 50-amp electric hookups, water, and sewer connections on gravel pads suitable for larger rigs. Between late spring and early fall, RV parks in this region experience higher occupancy rates, particularly during holiday weekends. The area frequently experiences high winds, which affects awning usage and outdoor comfort levels. While most parks offer trash collection and potable water, dump station accessibility varies significantly - Lake Colorado City State Park's dump station has been described as difficult to use with a portable waste tank due to concrete edging. Cell service ranges from adequate to spotty depending on the specific location, with T-Mobile and Verizon showing variable connection quality throughout the area. Many parks accommodate pets but require them to be leashed, with some visitors noting concerns about stickers and burrs affecting pet comfort on walks.

    Nice overnight stay

No frills. Clean bathrooms and laundry. 60 channel cable. Did not try wifi. AT&T very good. Verizon mediocre. Loves and another convenience store within walking distance. Big dog run. Vending machine for ice on-site. Looks like beer and wine sales coming as well as a work out room. Owners appear to be making upgrades

Very friendly and helpful hosts let us pick our site. Many large flat pull-through with full hookups. Did not need to unhook toad. Easy on-off at exit 217. Thanks for the books and suggestion of hike to nearby pond Richard. Also convenient Sunoco with lot of space for gas and diesel big rigs.

    Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475

    Nice!!

The Love's RV Stop was clean with long drive paths and enough space. The information about the water hookup was a little confusing as it stated to only fill up vs water hookup while at your RV location. We didn't see a laundry facility as advertised or RV store. We feel though Love's RV Stop is convenient, we feel they're missing a few key points. If their going to advertise a facility, they need to ensure it's either at the Gas Station or the RV Campsite. There also needs to a storm shelter, building, or information regarding evacuations in an emergency, for tornadoes, hail, or worse since there's no tenant, representative, or security on site anywhere. Lastly, IF they're going to advertise the gas station stop as the official RV Store, there needs to safe walk path to store from the RV Stop vs unhooking to drive there when someone is only here for a layover (1 night). Other than those issues, the RV Stop is great! We would definitely use them more in the future!

Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

    Breathtaking Views

We used this for a one night pass thru but I would have loved to spent the week. Gorgeous views, and a perk, perfect weather. The night sky is amazing, facilities clean and well kept. Restrooms and showers were in good repair. Electric and water hook-ups with a dump station at exit. Site was a level back-in spot with covered picnic table. Not a lot of shade available at our site but some had more. I would most definitely stay here again to enjoy the state park.

Nice CG for Convenient Overnight Stay

We stayed one night (May 29, 2022). The is a nice, easy access CG with large, level pull through and back in gravel sites. It is located right off of I-20 and next to a Love’s Travel Stop – there is a lot of road noise and trucking activity, but no bother. I added the Western Kingbird and Bullock's Oriole to my birding list here. The WiFi was good as was cell service. We did not make use of the laundry, bathrooms or showers. It was convenient for an overnight stay. We would stay here again.

    Wildcat Park - Spence Reservoir

    Quiet and peaceful

stayed here for a week in mid-November. Weather: 70 for the high and mid 40s at night. There were signs for nature trail, but I didn’t check it out. Beautiful views and amazing star gazing opportunities. Not much shade/trees near the sites. There sites are well spaced out along the reservoir: covered tables, trash can, grills, and fire pits all for a $5 day use fee. There isn’t a camp host or gate attendant on site. The people from LCRA that attended the park biweekly to empty trash. Minimal local activity during our stay. There is a dump station outside the park. Propane and groceries available only 10 minutes away. Excellent t-mobile service, was able to work remotely.

Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

    Nice, very quiet CG

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 41 for 1 night in early September. The CG is clean, well maintained. The CG roads are paved, as are the sites. The site pads themselves are concrete and most looked to be fairly level, but a few had a little bit of slope. Most of the sites were fairly well spaced. The CG, at least on Monday evening, was very quiet and peaceful. There were only 5 other campers in the whole CG. Our site, 41, was a pull-through. There doesn’t seem to be much lake access, at least from the CG areas anyway, except one defunct access from the first CG loop. The trees, mostly mesquite I think, though plentiful, are fairly short and don’t provide much shade. There were a few goathead burrs around so beware.

AT&T coverage was marginal, with only 2 bars of LTE service and speeds up to 2.9 MB/s. We had a clear view to the N from the front of the site, so Starlink was fine with speeds up to 26 MB/s.

    Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475

Clean, gated, good grass, dog park

Honestly this place is way better than i anticipated. Gated, clean, several of the sites have a covered veranda over the private picnic tables. Dog park with separate areas for small and large breed dogs. Full hook up w/ 50 amp and well spaced out sites. The grass is nice too (a lot of places are mainly weeds and stickers/thorns that my dog doesn’t want walk in). $52 for one night so a bit pricey for us to stay longer than a couple days but definitely a good place to stop that i feel is clean and safe. Others complained of hearing a train but we were there in the summer and with our a/c on i can’t hear any exterior noises

    Good stop

Small area in local park. Not for big rigs. Comanche has a pond, disc golf, playgrounds and trails that are nice. Lot of trash around tho. 3 days max.

Guide to Colorado City

RV campgrounds near Colorado City, Texas provide essential amenities for travelers passing through West Texas. Located in Mitchell County at an elevation of 2,080 feet, this region experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 95°F and mild winters. The area's flat terrain with scattered mesquite trees creates distinctive camping conditions, with many sites offering minimal natural shade.

What to do

Visit Lake Colorado City State Park: Located just outside town, this park offers fishing opportunities and shoreline hiking. While camping there, visitors note the wildlife viewing potential. "The park was not too far off the highway, so traffic noise was prevalent, but after dark it wasn't bad," mentions Dennis P. about MS G's RV Park in nearby Loraine.

Explore local agriculture: The region's cotton farming creates seasonal interest points. "We called the site and the owner was out cotton farming. Very friendly and trusting. We checked our selves in and deposited cash in the drop box," notes David M. about his experience at MS G's RV Park.

Take day trips to nearby attractions: Sweetwater's annual rattlesnake roundup in March draws visitors. As Richard & G. learned while staying at MS G's: "The owner let us know that March would be a good time to visit as nearby Sweetwater hosts its annual rattlesnake roundup."

What campers like

Peaceful evenings: Despite proximity to transportation corridors, many campers appreciate the quiet nights. "The park was quiet and peaceful overall. We hardly noticed them [trains] and they did not disturb our sleep," reports one visitor about their stay at MS G's RV Park.

Friendly local ownership: Personal attention from campground owners enhances the experience. "We were greeted by the very friendly and welcoming owner, who showed us to our site and stayed until he was sure we would not have any issues," writes Richard & G. about Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475.

Convenient highway access: Travelers appreciate easy access points for overnight stays. "Economy Spots, cramped but conveniently located off highway with weekly and monthly all inclusive rates," notes Cory D. about Rolling Plains RV Park in Sweetwater.

What you should know

Sticker burrs and goat heads: These painful plant thorns affect both humans and pets. "Beware if you have pets because there's stickers everywhere," warns Cathy G. about her stay at Lone Wolf Creek RV Village in Colorado City.

Limited amenities at some parks: Facilities vary significantly between rv campgrounds in Colorado City, Texas and surrounding areas. "Site was in the right place for our trip nothing there, but Cucklebur's and fire ants all over," reports Gary W. about his experience at RV Big Spring Texas.

Weather impacts: High winds commonly affect the region, particularly during storm seasons. "There also needs to a storm shelter, building, or information regarding evacuations in an emergency, for tornadoes, hail, or worse since there's no tenant, representative, or security on site anywhere," observed Rubin R. at Love's RV Stop.

Tips for camping with families

Look for parks with playgrounds: Some facilities offer recreational spaces for children. "There's a little playground here, nice showers, and a nice laundry facility," notes Laura M. about Hat Creek RV Park.

Plan indoor activities: Summer heat limits outdoor play time. "The facilities were clean and the manager was nice but the cleanliness of the pool left a lot to be desired," mentions Cathy G. about her experience at Lone Wolf Creek RV Village, one of the few parks mentioning a pool.

Check park cleanliness: Maintenance standards vary widely across Colorado City area campgrounds. "Roads are full of potholes. Grasses have goat heads in them," reports George O. about Texas RV Park of Big Spring.

Tips from RVers

Level sites matter: Many travelers report site condition variations. "Very rough site, with large ruts making it hard to put class A back tires firmly on the ground," notes Victoria G. about her challenging setup experience.

Cell service reliability: Mobile coverage determines workability for many travelers. "We only had 1 bar LTE with Verizon but had no issues with calls or using our hotspot," shares Richard & G. about connectivity at MS G's RV Park.

Secure belongings: Some parks have minimal supervision. "Easy enter/exit. Fast check-in. Trash blowing everywhere; dumpster lids need to be secured," observes James P. about Texas RV Park of Big Spring, highlighting the need for wind-proof storage.
