    Shady Lake RV Park

    Overnight Stop

This park is close to highway and great for overnight stay. The park has pull through full site hookups. The park has a pond that is the center of the entire campground. The park has two dog parks available as well for those traveling with pets.

    Two things I loved:

    1. Close to highway quick stay
    2. The pond nice view with ducklings

One thing I didn’t love: Really close to others for extended stays.

    Ramblin Fever RV Park

    Close to Restaurants and Shopping

I stayed for 4 nights from a Thursday through Monday. The owner is very nice and helped me with choosing a drive thru site. It is well maintained. Mix of long term and short stay resident s. It is near a busy arterial highway so it's not especially quiet. The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free. I will most likely stay here again. I mostly boondock in the forests, but when I need a place to resupply and take care of business needs, this place is very nice.

    Tyler State Park Campground

    One of our favorite parks

I should mention that my husband is from Canada. He was very unenthusiastic about camping in Texas. Well Tyler State Park made him change his mind! He LOVED the large trees, said it was the closest he'd felt to home in quite some time. We love the variety of types of sites they offer. Lake front, group, hike in, cabin, they have something for everyone! Only downfall is they book so quickly.

    Antique Capital RV Park

    Gladewater, TX

Pull thru, level, concrete pad. Swimming pool & fishing lake. Very little shade. No dog park but lots of green walks for the pups. Great spot if you love antiquing! Gladewater has many, many, many antique shops. Campground staff is very nice and accommodating.

    Options Galore!

This is my favorite state park in Texas! Lots of options for all kinds of campers. For camping, lots of different sites available for RVs/Campers, Tents, etc. some along the lake, some in the woods, and also cabins and shelters available! Hiking options vary from a nature stroll, to some more serious up-downs through the hills on the outskirts of the campground. Bring your friends, family, and pets, there is truly something for everyone here, even kayak and canoe rentals at the lake!

Public Ramp 1 Titus County Freshwater Supply District

    Boondock Free for 10 Days

I found this location because I needed a free spot for a few days for a medical appointment. It is within about 5 miles of Mount Pleasant, TX. Not far from Walmart, Home Depot, and other shopping and restaurants. It's primitive boondocking, but pretty nice and clean. Psrk next to the Water. Boating, fishing, BBQ, and group camping is allowed. Pet friendly on leash.

    Governor Jim Hogg RV Park

    RV camping

The camping area is mostly occupied by long term RV campers. Many of the campers are employed in the nearby areas. Grounds offer water/electric/sewer hookups, there are also toilets available but no showers. The RV grounds are part of the city park which offers a splash pad (seasonal), large playground, pavilion, picnic areas, arboretum, and a short hiking trail (approximately one third of a mile). The RV sites are backed up by the sheriff's office/county jail the courthouse is down the road, and there is a police department across the street. This isn't to suggest that the area is dangerous, its a small town and everything is pretty much right there. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance.

Lake Fork, a popular fishing lake is within a ten minute drive. Lake Quitman is less than ten minutes, generally this is where water sport activities occur. Pets are welcome.

    Tyler State Park Campground

    Lots to do!

It being August in Texas, we rented a limited use cabin with air conditioning. It also has a mini frig and a microwave inside. It has a queen size bed for which campers need to bring their own pillows and bed linens. The frig was super cold, and the AC worked well. There was a wood table with four chairs. The table was really sticky, so I recommend bringing something you can use as a table cloth. There are only six of these cabins, and they have a four bathroom building at the end of the cul de sac. No tents or pets are allowed at the cabin sites. Each has fire pit and water outside cabin

The park has a very small lake with canoe, kayak, paddle board, row boat, and paddle boat rentals. Life vests are provided with rental. It was fun! There is a good sized swimming area too. There are a number of trails of varying difficulty, some for hiking only, some for home and bike. Ranger programs offered.

Guide to Scroggins

Lake Bob Sandlin and Cypress Springs provide several dog friendly campgrounds near Scroggins, Texas, with varied waterfront access options. The region features sandy shorelines and wooded areas across multiple lakes at elevations between 330-400 feet. Most campgrounds in this East Texas area remain open year-round, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through August.

What to do

Kayaking in secluded waterways: At Lake Bob Sandlin State Park Campground, visitors can access a specially designed kayak launch system. "Kayak launch isn't easy to get to but they have provided a slide for yaks to get from the parking area to/from the launch. Once you're there though its like you're transported somewhere else and you weave your way through a winding canal to reach the lake," notes Becca H.

Winter fishing trips: Walleye Park offers year-round fishing access with shared piers at every campsite. "We were the only ones crazy enough to go in December but it was great! Beautiful views and great fishing and were able to cook out and go geocaching," writes Natalie S.

Wildlife observation: Early mornings provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. "One morning, as I was sitting drinking my coffee, four deer walked right through our site!! We had a regular nighttime visit from some bold raccoons, so definitely put your goodies and trash away," explains Rebecca from Lake Bob Sandlin.

What campers like

Free camping options: Public Ramp 1 offers no-cost camping with basic amenities. "What a beautiful place! There are dispersed sites throughout the recreation area with clearly marked areas where no camping is allowed. There are restrooms and water available, as well as dumpsters. We had great Verizon service!" shares Dave G.

Lakefront site privacy: Wooded campsites create natural separation between campers at most area parks. "It is very thickly wooded which makes even the smallest sites private. We stayed on site 08 which on the map looks like it's on the water but the brush is dense so there is no water view. Sites 10-13 are nice waterfront sites," notes Rebecca.

Pet-friendly waterfront access: Twin Oaks Group Park welcomes dogs at its group camping facilities. "It's right on Lake Cypress so you can dock your boat at the pier and the catfish can be caught by kiddos. Very clean and usually there is alot of firewood already stacked for campers," explains a reviewer named Name.

What you should know

Seasonal wildlife considerations: Raccoons are common visitors in warmer months. "We had a regular nighttime visit from some bold raccoons, so definitely put your goodies and trash away. Overnight spider webs cover everything and I'm quite sure we took a hundred spiders home with us!" warns Rebecca from Lake Bob Sandlin.

Reservation requirements: Popular parks fill quickly, especially waterfront sites. "If you get reservations it's kinda like winning the lottery. But it's all worth it!" shares Tammie L. about Tyler State Park Campground.

Vehicle requirements: Some free camping areas require vehicle registration. "We hitchhiked here and got turned away for not having a vehicle to register with the campground. The grounds looked nice, but be advised that if you are traveling on foot you will not be permitted to enter," reports Austin M. about Public Ramp 1.

Tips for camping with families

Child-friendly swimming areas: Designated swimming zones provide safer water access. "Yaked over to the day-use swim area that was very nice. We can't wait to go camping there!" mentions Becca H. about Lake Bob Sandlin State Park.

Playground access: Parks with playgrounds provide additional recreation options. "The playground is one of the best I've seen at the state parks we've been to!" shares Becca H. about Tyler State Park.

Easy fishing opportunities: Several parks feature accessible fishing for children. "My kiddos love being able to swim or fish anytime, because we're so close to the water," explains Kelly B. about Walleye Park's waterfront sites.

Tips from RVers

Site levelness varies: Many campgrounds have uneven parking areas. "Sites are small for parking but are for the camp site was appropriate," notes Jack B. from Lake Bob Sandlin State Park.

Water pressure issues: Some parks experience utility fluctuations. "We have camped several times here but this time the water pressure was a joke. Very few campers. We had to use onboard water pump for everything," warns Bill B. about Walleye Park.

Specific site recommendations: Research site numbers before booking. "Site 69 will take a 45' motor coach," notes Bill B. about Walleye Park, while another reviewer recommends: "Sites 10-13 are nice waterfront sites" at Lake Bob Sandlin.
