    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

RV camping near Richards, Texas is anchored by Lake Conroe and a cluster of full hookup parks suited to everything from weekend rigs to long-term stays. Thousand Trails Lake Conroe operates year-round with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections, accommodating larger motorhomes with its big-rig friendly sites. Venice On The Lake RV Resort in Willis provides lakefront and lake view sites with full hookups, while Old Wagon Trail RV Park offers 50 spacious sites with 30/50-amp service on level concrete pads. The Western RV Park maintains 50-amp electrical hookups and sewer connections in a more utilitarian setting. "Extremely nice RV park with large spaces and gravel parking area. Spaces are wide and have a picnic table on a concrete pad. Electric and water is separated, I hate it when water is on the electrical box!" noted one RV camper about Woodland Lakes RV Park.

Most RV parks in the region remain open year-round, though summer weekends often fill quickly due to lake recreation popularity. Dump stations are available at most facilities, including Thousand Trails Lake Conroe and Venice On The Lake, though The Western RV Park lacks this amenity. Pet policies vary but most parks accommodate pets with designated areas. Noble Forest RV Village maintains 51 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options for different RV power requirements. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, with good internet speeds reported at several parks. When traveling with larger rigs, advance reservations are recommended as some parks have limited big rig access, particularly during peak seasons when Lake Conroe attracts numerous visitors.

      Woodland Lakes RV Park

      Extremely Nice Park with Ducks!

Extremely nice RV park with large spaces and gravel parking area. Spaces are wide and have a picnic table on a concrete pad. Electric and water is separated, I hate it when water is on the electrical box! Internet speed is really good and they have cable TV hookups. Two laundry facilities, multiple dumpsters, kids play area, dog run, and multiple fishing ponds. There are a lot of long term patrons but still a good number of back in and pull through spots available for short-term. If you need to be in the north Houston area, definitely highly recommended.

Big Creek Resort, Marina, & Campground

One of my favorite local campgrounds

I like this park because it's close to home. It's got a good space between sites and is broken into 3 or 4 areas so you're not just piled in like sardines. You can being 4-wheeled vehicles that have a steering wheel. No sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. Unfortunately, subsequent major floods have caused them to lose much of the tree cover. It's great when camping in groups though, which we do quite often. All sites have views of the lake. They have a really good fireworks display on 4th of July.

      Type of Park: Private-owned

Check In: 4p Check Out: 3p

      Site#79- Back-In

      $35 per night($105 total)

      Water 20/30/50 amp

      Picnic Table with concrete pad

Grass site. No rock or concrete base

👍🏻 Pros: No trees to avoid

On the end of the line so no one is on the"front" side of the camper

Good area for camping in groups

Close to good swimming areas and store

      Close to boat ramp

👎🏻 Cons: Split-level site- table is down a slight hill from parking area. No shade

Across from the cabins on stilts, lake view is a little blocked

Cabins are being refurbished and the equipment and materials are stacked near the site(and some construction noise)

No grill or fire ring at this site

📝 Park Notes: Gates closed and locked from midnight to 6 am on weekends.

Closed at 10 pm on week days.

Can bring golf carts, ATV's(machines with steering wheels, not handle bars)

Dump Station- a little hard to get to for big rigs. Also hard to leave the park from there. You may have to go back into the park to turn around.

Park Store- has fishing bait and supplies, too

Cabins are under re-construction There is a Places Munzee here

      Stagecoach RV Park

Clean, well kept and friendly host.

This is more like a mobile home park for RV’s than a camping experience. Each space is a pull through that has a picnic table and full hookups including sewer. Most sites have trees. Most spaces are occupied by long term tenants as evidenced by skirting around the rigs. Evidently several children live here as well. There is a dedicated area to take dogs so they can do their business.
Quite a few speed bumps. No gates so anyone can enter/exit at will. Laundry room and bathrooms have locks. Bathrooms are clean and free hot water. Pool/hot tub were closed. I stayed 3 nights in April. It felt safe, so I’d stay here again. People said hello when walking and waved when they drove by.

Worst thing was the number of speed bumps…useful but not really RV friendly. I’ve added photos, and although I copied them from another source, they are valid photos of what I saw and experienced.

Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit Campground

Nice park with green space between sites

      • Water

      • 20/30 amp(had 50 amp outlet, but only 20& 30 breakers)

      • Grill

      • Fire Ring with adjustable height grate

      • Picnic Table

      • Site Pad: asphalt. Site was just long enough for my 24' camper and my truck and not much room between.

      👍🏻 Pros:

      • Near the water with a trail to get there

      • Green space between the site and neighbors

      • Good kayaking area

      👎🏻 Cons:

      • The spot is tight getting in. My 10' high camper had low hanging branches on it(but they were soft, not stiff). Lots of vines/shrubs across from the site, so no extra room there.

      📝 Park Notes:

      • Park does not have a gate, so it doesn't close

      • Dump Station for each camping loop

      • Restrooms/ Bath House

      • Boat ramp

      • Fishing jetty (pier is closed)

      • This campground is better for winter camping. Great buffer from wind and neighbors. Only a handful of sites have direct access to the water.

      • Lots of trails

      • There are Munzees and Geocaches here

      • Group pavilion/kitchen available

      • 2 group shelters available

🐦 Wildlife:• Birds: Shore birds, egrets, herons, cardinals, mockingbirds

      • Deer

      • Raccoons(I saw their tracks, but not the critters)

More info an video at https://www.denisevajdak.com/2021/08/my-birthday-weekend-2021.html

Site 23 was better (stayed in this one twice). Wider, nice view of lake. Not very long, but easier to get into.

      Rayford Crossing RV Resort

      Well Managed and Manicured

We had to return our travel trailer to the dealership for some warranty work and wanted to have one last little getaway before handing it over. We opted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the dealership, and this campground had an opening. So, we booked one of the last remaining sites and hit the road!

Located in a suburban area north of Houston, the campground was very easy to find. It was nestled among nice suburban homes but still close to the amenities of a suburban city. We arrived after the employees left the front desk, so they instructed us to pick up our materials at the front office. We immediately noticed how well maintained this campground was. We easily found Site 21, a standard back in site. The sites are all concrete and level with a yard of grass and full hookups, which we really appreciate. We were surprised that our site didn’t have a picnic table like we thought, but we probably could have called to request one (wasn’t a huge issue in this July Texas heat).

This campground is more like a residential area. We noticed that many vehicles were gone early on a weekday morning. Many of the “campers” had potted plants and other items that indicated they were long-term occupants. There were many rules for the campground such as no items allowed on the grass or under RVs and no trash cans at sites, but none of these were unreasonable. Staff was visible throughout the day, often maintaining the grounds and collecting trash at each site (trash collection is each morning). It was extremely quiet, clean, and manicured.

Would we visit this campground again? Yes, if we plan to visit the Houston area for business in the future. We prefer the forest and the solitude that it affords, but this is a nice place to stay if you have business in the area. Rayford Crossing has amenities that may appeal to families with children such as a playground, beautiful pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, and fishing. The nice paved roads and sites and the dog park were nice as well. Our only complaints would be the price and lack of privacy, but I guess that’s to be expected in an RV resort near a major US city like Houston. Basically, it served our purpose.

      Jetstream RV Resort at Waller

      Great RV park!

We stayed here for about 5 weeks and loved our stay! Lots of great amenities and awesome staff! Friendly neighbors and a lot of full timers so not a lot of traffic or noise. The park was clean with full hookups, wide roads and level concrete pads. Pet friendly- our two doggos loved the dog wash station! Highly recommend!

      Yegua Creek Campground

Nice park with views of sunrise and sunset

      • Water

      • 20/30/50 amp

      • Grill on a swivel so you can turn it in high winds

      • Fire Ring with flip-over grate

      • Metal mesh Picnic Table. Table is in full sun in early-mid afternoon, but not for long. A canopy would help.

      • Site Pad: Crushed Granite and level. Very long site with extra room after the pad site

      👍🏻 Pros:

      • Nice view of the water toward Welch Park and the dam

      • You can get a good view of the sunset and sunrise

      • Close to the restrooms/shower

      • Wide view of the lake as it curves around the campground

      • Shade, but open areas so breeze can come through

👎🏻 Cons:• No sewer hookups at site

      📝 Park Notes:

      • Gates closed and locked from 10p to 6a(can get out, but not back in)

      • Dump Station

      • Restrooms/ Bath House(but had LOTS of tiny dead bugs piled up)

      • Most of this campground has a barrier wall, so only limited spots where you can access the water. One place in this loop and a bigger area(but busy) section on the other side of the main loop.

      • There are Munzees and Geocaches here and in the area

      • You can use your America the Beautiful Access Passes here. They sell them at the main entrance booth, but they were out of the Annual Passes.

      🐦 Wildlife:

      • Birds: Cardinals(not afraid to hang out on my site), Mockingbirds, Herons, Cranes, Shore birds, LBJ's(little brown jobbers), Chickadees

      • Deer

    Guide to Richards

Lake Conroe, located near Richards, Texas, offers a variety of RV camping options within the Sam Houston National Forest region. At an elevation of around 200 feet above sea level, the area experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 90°F and mild winters. Most campgrounds remain accessible year-round, though summer weekends often require advance reservations due to high demand.

    What to do

Fishing access: Venice On The Lake provides fishing areas with "award winning fishing" according to one reviewer, while others mention being able to watch catfish and perch at feeders at certain properties.

Family activities: Thousand Trails Lake Conroe offers numerous recreation options. One camper notes it has "a large lake and two ponds, a pool, putt putt, & tons of activities for kids," making it ideal for families seeking structured recreation.

Water recreation: Boating opportunities exist at several campgrounds with waterfront access. A camper at Triple-B RV Park mentioned, "Corn hole and kayaks are available for guests to borrow from the owners... they even have a small boat ramp and dock for you to use!"

Swimming options: Many parks have pools for swimming when lake conditions aren't ideal. As one visitor to 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort reported, they "spent time at the pool that overlooks the lake and grounds," indicating elevated views of the water.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Old Wagon Trail RV Park gets praise for its layout, with one camper noting, "The sites are beautiful and not overcrowded." This contrasts with more densely packed options in the region.

Clean facilities: Multiple reviews mention cleanliness as a standout feature at certain properties. A reviewer at Old Wagon Trail RV Park shared: "We were here for 2 nights to attend TRF. As a light sleeper, I had no issues and slept amazingly well."

Concrete pads: Many RV sites near Richards, Texas feature level concrete pads for easy setup. A camper at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe appreciated the "concrete pads, full hookups, well-maintained grounds," calling it "definitely one of the more premium experiences."

Adult-only options: 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort offers an adult-focused environment. A visitor clarified: "This is NOT a clothing optional or swinger park. It IS an adult only and NO KIDS park," providing a quieter alternative for mature travelers.

    What you should know

Site selection limitations: Some parks use a first-come system rather than assigned sites. At Thousand Trails Lake Conroe, "you cannot reserve a specific site. You drive around and pick a site, then call and let them know which one you're in."

Wi-Fi availability varies: Internet access is inconsistent across parks. One camper at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe noted: "I booked this site because it shows wifi as an amenity. However, the wifi is a pay-by-the-day only offer."

Spacing between sites: Site proximity differs significantly between properties. At Park On The Lake, a camper reported, "everyone sits right on top of one another. There wasn't even enough room to sit outside and enjoy it."

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. The Western RV Park is "right off the feeder road for Highway 6, but the road noise isn't terrible," according to one reviewer.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity amenities: Look for parks with multiple recreation options. Thousand Trails Lake Conroe has "a beach area for families to enjoy" alongside other activities, making it suitable for longer stays with children.

Site selection: At busier family-friendly parks, expect more activity and less privacy. One camper at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe mentioned "vehicles constantly driving up and down the road in front of our site, and lots of children running around."

Age restrictions: Confirm family policies before booking. While many RV sites near Richards, Texas welcome children, some like 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort are strictly "adult only and NO KIDS," catering to those seeking quieter environments.

Playground availability: Hillview RV Park and several other properties feature playgrounds specifically for younger campers, with some offering additional recreational facilities like "a fitness room, and a recreational room."

    Tips from RVers

Big rig access: Size limitations affect site availability. At Thousand Trails Lake Conroe, a reviewer advised, "Beware that not all sites have full hookups," while another noted site 55 at 7 Bridges "is NOT for RVs over 36 feet."

Hookup configurations: Pay attention to electrical service details when booking. Some parks offer both 30-amp and 50-amp service, while others provide only one option. Noble Forest RV Village maintains "51 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service options."

Seasonal considerations: Summer brings more visitors, affecting availability. One camper mentioned Triple-B RV Park's dock "does fill up during the summer," indicating seasonal capacity limitations at water-access points.

Layout awareness: Some parks prioritize utility over aesthetics. A camper described The Western RV Park as "a big concrete parking lot with hookups - nothing special beyond that," contrasting with more landscaped options in the area.
