Mount Vernon RV parks provide full hookup sites with varying amenities and accessibility. Still Meadow RV Park offers 42 sites with electric, sewer, and water hookups available year-round, while Shady Lake RV Park in nearby Sulphur Springs features big-rig friendly pull-through sites with 50-amp service. The Pines RV & Cabin Resort maintains 65 sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical connections, fire rings, and picnic tables at each concrete pad. Barefoot Bay Marina & RV Resort, located in Pittsburg, contains 78 full-hookup sites with access to Lake Bob Sandlin. "The sites are level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair."

Several parks in the region require advance reservations, particularly during fishing tournament weekends when occupancy rates spike. Most RV parks maintain year-round operations with monthly rates available for longer stays. Cell service varies by location, with Verizon typically providing the strongest coverage throughout the area. Pet-friendly policies are standard at most parks, though leash requirements are strictly enforced. Dump stations are available at larger facilities, while smaller parks may direct visitors to nearby sanitary stations. One camper noted: "The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly." Proximity to Interstate 30 means road noise affects some parks, particularly those near Mount Pleasant.

      The Bluffs RV Park

Quick stay in a cute campground!

We came in town for a fishing tournament and stayed at this small campground with a lot of cute amenities! Close to boat ramp, 5 min walk to the lake, full hookups, good water pressure, fire pits, gavel sites, concrete pads for wooden picnic tables, small grills, dog run, horseshoes, laundry hut and free firewood! Right off the highway and good phone reception.

      Johnson Creek Camp

Beautiful place on Lake 'O the Pines, but crowded campsites

I stayed here for five nights in mid-March. The campground is a mix of tent/RV loops and has multiple boat ramps into Johnson Creek which feeds into Lake 'O the Pines. I was in site E210 (RV area 2). Place was packed over the weekend, cleared out quite a bit during the week. I check out all four RV loops, and it's one of the most crowded COE campgrounds I've seen (and I've seen a lot). Site spacing in pretty close, but slightly better than commercial parks. I lucked out on E210, it was a pull-through that perched overlooking the lake. It was among the more private sites. Fairly level sites in loops, some asphalt, some concrete. Water/Elec, picnic pad and table and fire rings at all sites. I would definitely recommend and go back but pick your sites carefully if you want privacy - think Google satellite view or Google Earth. Pretty decent cell signal for Verizon, so-so for ATT.

      Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

      Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

      Ramblin Fever RV Park

      Close to Restaurants and Shopping

I stayed for 4 nights from a Thursday through Monday. The owner is very nice and helped me with choosing a drive thru site. It is well maintained. Mix of long term and short stay resident s. It is near a busy arterial highway so it's not especially quiet. The hookups worked great. I was two spots from the very front of the park. I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights. I felt safe. It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free. I will most likely stay here again. I mostly boondock in the forests, but when I need a place to resupply and take care of business needs, this place is very nice.

      Governor Jim Hogg RV Park

      RV camping

The camping area is mostly occupied by long term RV campers. Many of the campers are employed in the nearby areas. Grounds offer water/electric/sewer hookups, there are also toilets available but no showers. The RV grounds are part of the city park which offers a splash pad (seasonal), large playground, pavilion, picnic areas, arboretum, and a short hiking trail (approximately one third of a mile). The RV sites are backed up by the sheriff's office/county jail the courthouse is down the road, and there is a police department across the street. This isn't to suggest that the area is dangerous, its a small town and everything is pretty much right there. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance.

Lake Fork, a popular fishing lake is within a ten minute drive. Lake Quitman is less than ten minutes, generally this is where water sport activities occur. Pets are welcome.

      Shady Lake RV Park

      Overnight Stop

This park is close to highway and great for overnight stay. The park has pull through full site hookups. The park has a pond that is the center of the entire campground. The park has two dog parks available as well for those traveling with pets.

      Two things I loved:

      1. Close to highway quick stay
      2. The pond nice view with ducklings

One thing I didn’t love: Really close to others for extended stays.

    Guide to Mount Vernon

The Mount Vernon area provides several RV camping options within the Piney Woods region of northeast Texas. Campgrounds cluster near Lake Bob Sandlin and Lake Cypress Springs, with most positioned within 15-30 minutes of Mount Vernon proper. The terrain features gentle rolling hills, pine forests, and numerous lakes stocked with bass, crappie, and catfish.

    What to do

Lake activities: boat ramps and fishing spots are accessible near Big Al's Barefoot Bay, where campers report "great for kayaking, fishing and just relaxing on the lake. There is a great hiking trail by the marina." The campground provides direct lake access with "sandy spots to swim from at various entry points."

Walking trails: natural areas around Lake Bob Sandlin offer walking paths for wildlife viewing. One camper at The Bluffs RV Park noted they were "close to boat ramp, 5 min walk to the lake" with "full hookups" and "good water pressure."

Local entertainment: weekend events occur regularly at some parks. Barefoot Bay features "Karaoke across the street every Friday and live music every Saturday," according to campers who stayed for an extended period. During summer months, many parks organize community activities for guests.

    What campers like

Lake views: waterfront camping receives positive reviews at many parks. At Big Al's Barefoot Bay, campers appreciate sites that "back right up to great water views and access to fishing" despite the "space between campers" being somewhat cramped.

Convenient amenities: marina access ranks highly among Twin Lakes RV Resort visitors. As one guest commented, "This site was conveniently located to all the great amenities. There are so many fun things to do at this resort!"

Friendly atmosphere: community feel stands out at Ramblin Fever RV Park, where visitors mentioned "super friendly people" and feeling safe during their stays. The park maintains a mix of long-term and short-stay residents, creating a welcoming environment for newcomers.

    What you should know

Highway proximity: road noise affects several campgrounds in the region. One Ramblin Fever camper noted, "There is some noise from the highway but it didn't stop us from sleeping well." Similarly, at Shady Lake RV Park, visitors mentioned a "noisy road nearby."

Site spacing: variable privacy between RV sites differs significantly between parks. At Shady Lake, one visitor reported that "overnight sites are long enough but only 5-7 feet apart," while others found The Bluffs more spacious with concrete pads for wooden picnic tables.

Facility maintenance: bathroom conditions vary across locations. At Barefoot Bay, campers noted "bathrooms/showers/laundry facilities, however they could use some work," while another visitor at Shady Lake described finding "one restroom which was filthy, one shower that was so dirty you could not stand in it."

Reservation needs: availability challenges occur during fishing tournament weekends when local parks fill quickly. Weekends from March through October typically require advance booking at most parks.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: swimming areas at Barefoot Bay provide "lots of space for the kids to play" according to visitors, with designated shore access points that work well for younger children.

Pet accommodations: dog-friendly policies exist at most parks but with restrictions. One camper at Ramblin Fever noted, "It is very pet friendly. Keep dogs on leash and clean up after them. I have 3 black labs. No fenced dog park yet, so I drove them to the city park with tennis courts every morning to run free."

Campground social life: other children often present at Barefoot Bay where campers mentioned "several kids that run around playing, making friends" especially during summer months and holiday weekends.

    Tips from RVers

Budget considerations: Passport America discounts are accepted at select parks. A Ramblin Fever visitor shared, "I used Passport America pass for my first 3 nights," while another noted staying "for a week for $150. 30/50 amp hook ups, sewer and water."

Site selection: length and levelness vary significantly between parks. At Barefoot Bay, RVers reported that "sites are not very level" despite having full hookups, so bringing leveling blocks is recommended.

Utility reliability: water pressure differences exist between parks. The Bluffs received positive comments about "good water pressure" while campers at other parks reported variable water quality during peak usage times.
