      Airport Park - Waco Lake

      Filthy women’s restroom

This park is a short drive to all of Waco attractions including the famous Silos. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights.

      Pros:

      • Very friendly gate attendant

      • Extremely quiet park except for arriving/departing aircraft at Waco Regional Airport

      • Great view of the lake as trees/shrubs are minimal

      • Clean campsite

      • Very clean campfire pit

      • Most sites had a nice distance from neighbor sites

      • Crushed granite surrounds the site’s asphalt parking pad so no muddy mess after rain

      • Pedestal BBQ grill, fire pit with grilling grate and aluminum picnic table at each site

      • Some sites had aluminum roof pavilion over picnic table

      • Some sites had lantern pole

      • Park roadways in good condition

      • Entrance gate locked at 10pm

      • Plenty of TP in women’s restroom

      • 4 bar signal AT&T

      Cons:

      • Filthy women’s restroom. Human feces on floor. Two of the three stalls locked for days. One remaining stall the door would not close and latch. Sign posted on door that restrooms were cleaned Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but the human feces were on the floor Friday night, Saturday all day and Sunday morning. Exterior door would not close completely.

      • No water to sinks in women’s restroom

      • No soap dispenser and no hand dryer in women’s restroom

      • Men’s restroom door locked Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning

      • Exterior door to one shower room was unable to be closed

      • Extremely low water pressure to campsite

      • No site privacy due to minimal trees/brush throughout the park

      • Low hanging tree branches over roadway and campsite pad

      • Our campsite pedestal BBQ grill was extremely corroded

      • No wildlife sightings- not even a squirrel

      • NOT A DARK SKY FRIENDLY CAMPGROUND! Boat launch lights across the cove lit up most of the campground. Large lights on the toilet/shower building that made it nearly as bright as daylight!

Lots of Aircraft Noise - Bring Ear Plugs!

Level asphalt site surrounded by crushed granite

      Grass neatly mowed throughout campground

Large aluminum picnic table that is moveable from site concrete pad

BBQ grill, metal fire pit and lantern pole

Night sky friendly. No street lights

Spacious-space between each site but no privacy due to lack of vegetation

Very quiet Sunday thru Wednesday nights except for Waco airport aircraft approach and Space X rocket testing

      Clean toilets and showers

      Plenty of TP in restrooms

      Trash can in toilet/shower facility

      Sufficient trash dumpsters throughout park

      2 LTE Verizon bars signal

      Cons

Exterior restroom doors desperately need repaired. Have to move rock away from door to gain access.

Sewer connection at rear of parking pad. Bring the looooong stinky slinky!

Waco airport aircraft departing/arriving as early as 6am and as late as 11pm. One night we counted aircraft performing touch and go manuvers 42 times. Approach was directly over our campsite.

      Blue Sky I-35 RV Park

      Good breakfast

I stayed here on my way to Houston, I didn't use the shower, laundry or gym, the hosts were really friendly and they will give you hot breakfast. If you want less road noise try parking in the back away from the highway. My spot had 30amp, water and sewer.

Toilet facility #1 women’s had raw sewage throughout deep enough to cover your foot. Site 11 has electrical hook up at rear on the door side of the camper

Site 11 water connection is centered at the rear of the parking pad.

      Site 11 unlevel.

Numerous piles of charcoal ash throughout site 11 campsite not in the fire pit.

Concrete picnic table needs degreased as surface has lots of large greasy stain

Wolf Creek - Navarro Mills Reservoir

      Great little lake

This is a great little lake and campground, especially for fishing and boating. The campground offers nice, secluded campsites with full hook-ups. They each have a table & fire pit. The campsites are clean and well maintained. There are several fishing piers and boat loading docks. The lake is clean and great for tubing, standup paddle boarding or just swimming. There is also a roped off designated swimming area with a small beach. The campground is usually not crowded except for big summer holidays. Lots of wildlife like deer, etc. The public restroom & showers are clean and well kept. There also is a dumping station and a park host is on duty 24 hours a day. No hiking though but walking around the lake is really enjoyable. Bring your own water crafts because there isn’t any rentals offered here. Very low key & enjoyable.

      Airport Park - Waco Lake

      Chilling by the Lake

We setup right next to the Lake Waco, we enjoyed a light breeze coming off the lake most of the time. We arrived after the gate house closed but before the gates closed. Sites look level but we needed to reposition a couple times to get everything thing level and maximize the view. All sites come with covered picnic table and fire ring. Not many trees so shade is hard to find. Was a great place to stay and is close to Waco. Only negative was the bathhouse needed some attention. But overall this is a good place to stay

      COE Bardwell Lake Mott Park

      I appreciate this location.

Made my reservation on line just a few spots were available. Spot 04 with a water view space is slanted. They had the parking pass ready to pick up so it was not necessary to speak with anyone. The view, electricity, water, and showers was very nice at such an affordable price. Take your cleaning supplies into the bathroom as a precaution, I did not see trash can in the bathrooms. Leave No Trace is not really practiced by other campers so feel free to pick up after someone else this space is beautiful and deserves respect. I enjoyed the rain and the view it was very relaxing and I appreciated a shower as well as powering all my extras before heading on the road to Minnesota. $14 for the space very appreciate.

      Blue Sky I-35 RV Park

      Safe overnight

We are headed south. I look for spots close to interstate. The park is clean, well kept and no appearance of lost long timers. The attendant put us in spot 59 across the street from the dog park. But more importantly a big open field with a walking path around it. Made our fur babies happy. I get in a hurry when we are moving again so we did not try the breakfast. I'm sure it was great. Definitely, a place to stop along Texas I-35 south of Dallas.

    Guide to Mexia

Camping around Mexia, Texas centers on the Navarro Mills Reservoir, which covers approximately 5,070 acres with its dam managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The reservoir's elevation averages 421 feet above sea level with water depths reaching 46 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 85-95°F, making water activities particularly popular during the warmer months.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Liberty Hill Park at Navarro Mills Lake is known for excellent crappie fishing. According to one visitor, "Navarro Mills Liberty Hill Park features a fantastic fishing barge that is covered allowing you to fish no matter the weather." The lake contains multiple species, with dedicated fishing piers accessible from camping areas.

Water recreation: At Oak Cove Marina, water activities extend beyond swimming. "My husband had a blast fishing there with his buddies and we had a good boat ride," notes one camper. The marina offers boat access with multiple launch points around the reservoir.

Wildlife viewing: Nature observation is possible throughout the camping season. "Deer sightings at Park entrance only," reports a camper at Airport Park. Many campsites offer opportunities to watch local birds, deer, and small mammals, particularly during early morning or evening hours.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Wolf Creek Park offers ample room between sites. A camper mentions, "This is a great little lake and campground, especially for fishing and boating. The campground offers nice, secluded campsites with full hook-ups." The extra space provides privacy uncommon at more crowded facilities.

Clean facilities: Maintaining cleanliness is a priority at many campgrounds. At Liberty Hill Park, one camper noted, "Extremely clean grounds and super friendly staff. Allows pets (on leash of course)." Basic amenities like restrooms and shower facilities receive regular maintenance.

Dark sky viewing: Limited light pollution makes stargazing possible. "Night sky friendly. No street lights," observes a visitor to Airport Park. The absence of street lights and distance from urban areas creates ideal conditions for astronomy enthusiasts during clear nights.

    What you should know

Seasonal closures: Some campgrounds operate seasonally. "We stopped by here and unfortunately they were not open. It looks like a beautiful place and their sign says open April-September," reports a visitor to Wolf Creek Park. Always check operating schedules before planning your trip.

Insect considerations: Ant populations can affect camping experiences at certain locations. "Liberty hill is a very beautiful campground but there is a serious issue with the invasive Argentine ant," warns one camper. Bringing appropriate insect repellent and protective measures is advisable during warmer months.

Reservation requirements: Most glamping close to Mexia, Texas requires advance booking. At COE Navarro Mills Reservoir Oak Park, spaces fill quickly during peak seasons. Sites with premium lake views are typically reserved first.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach access: Highview Park offers designated swimming areas. "Very clean, well kept, mowed, very family oriented... swimming area real nice," reports one visitor. The designated swimming beaches provide safer alternatives to open water swimming.

Playground availability: Some campgrounds include playground equipment. At Wolf Creek, "There is also a roped off designated swimming area with a small beach," making it suitable for younger children who need structured activities between water adventures.

Safety considerations: Ranger patrols provide added security at many campgrounds. "Local sheriff's dept and park ranger made several trips through the park which made it feel secure," notes a camper at High View. This regular monitoring helps maintain family-friendly environments.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Be prepared for elevation variations at waterfront sites. At Airport Park, a camper reported, "Sites look level but we needed to reposition a couple times to get everything thing level and maximize the view." Bringing leveling blocks is recommended, particularly for larger rigs.

Hookup positioning: Utility connections may require longer hoses or cables. "Site 11 has electrical hook up at rear on the door side of the camper. Site 11 water connection is centered at the rear of the parking pad," shares a camper at COE Navarro Mills Reservoir Oak Park. Measuring your connections before arrival ensures adequate length.

Accessibility considerations: Entry gates at some parks have time restrictions. At Airport Park, "Entrance gate locked 10pm-6am. Exit only permitted," which requires planning arrival times carefully. Some luxury glamping experiences near Mexia may offer 24-hour check-in services as alternatives.
