    Dinosaur Valley RV Park

    Loved it!

Every site is pull through with full hookups and has a fire ring & picnic table! Staff was very friendly and store had all the essentials. Clean restroom and shower (1 stall), pet friendly and beautiful pool/ hot tub. Right across the street from Dinosaur World (which our 2 year old loved) and outside the gates of Dinosaur Valley State Park. Will definitely be back.

    Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground

    Family camping

Nice camping spot for families. I chose to camp in the north primitive hike-in sites across the river. It was pretty hot but I still had a good time exploring the hiking trails. If you go hiking, take a map and of course extra water. My map came in handy a couple of times as I was hiking as the actual trails led me off track a few times.

I stayed in the primitive camping area. You hike between 1-2.5 miles across the river to sites. If the river is too high these sites may be closed. Water is only available at the trailhead. These sites are primitive so they do not have showers, restrooms, picnic tables or water.

    Other sites available:

    • Campsites with electricity (Picnic tables, water hookup, electric, fire ring)
    • Walk-in campsites (Fire ring, lantern post)
    • Group camp (fire ring, water nearby, three picnic tables)

    Treetops RV Resort

    Great stay!

We really enjoyed this park. It’s very clean and quiet. The trees are beautiful and add great shade. Most of spaces are pull through and very easy to setup at. We had a fire pit and picnic table. The bath houses are nice and private. We used the laundry services and everything worked properly. The staff is very friendly and easy to access in case you need something. Fitness room is little but updated and clean. My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55* outside and said it was a fun experience. Easy access to Target just around the corner, Parks mall is close by and Arlington Highlands shopping is really nice! The road into the park is only 2 lanes with no shoulder, but as a Michigander I’m finding Texas roads to be interesting 😅 WiFi worked for my family of 5 the majority of the time for simple things. Hubby works remotely and went to Panera for stronger/faster service.

We did stay in 2 spaces as we extended our stay and someone had previously booked our space.

    Dinosaur Valley RV Park

    Convenience

My husband and I stayed at Dinosaur Valley RV Park (DVRVP) on two separate occasions in last four weeks. We stayed 1 night during our first time at DVRVP and 2 nights during our second stay.

Here are our pros: 1.) DVRVP shares a property line with DVSP. Guests are able to purchase a day pass online through the DVSP website and access DVSP without ever having to drive through the front entrance. It was a simple 1 minute walk to access the park through DVRVP.

2.) You do not have to enter DVSP to enjoy the Paluxy River. Guests of DVRVP can access the river by following a small trail at one corner of the park by the entrance of DVSP. Our family spent a whole day in the river a minute walk from our camper.

3.) Dinosaur World is across the street.

4.) DVRVP is a family owned and operated business. The service was friendly! We wanted to add a. Additional day. We called and left a message. Moments later we received a return phone call. We were placed on a wait list. A few hours later we received another phone call let us know they were able to add an additional day to our visit.

5.) The sites are pull in and leveled for the most part. Both sites we stayed at were clean, free of trash and pet waste. The fire pits had been cleaned out. Connections are conveniently placed on driver side and we’re cleaned.

6.) DVRVP staff hosts several family friendly activities for guests throughout the day, everyday.

7.) DVRVP has a playground, swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit and plenty of green space for kids to roam and explore.

    8.) Pet Friendly!

9.) No RV age restrictions! We saw old to new class A’s to C’s and towable’s.

    Here are our cons:

1.) 2 pet limit per site. We would love to bring all three of our dogs. One is tiny and is an incident dog.

    Hidden Cove Park & Marina

    Not just for camping!

Clean and spacious RV sites in two areas, about 100 total and several with water view. Open and tree covered sites in both. Cabins also available, again several with water views. Two designated tent camping areas separate from RVs. Dry storage and dump station on property as well. The park offers open activity areas and covered picnic tables by the water. A 3-lane boat ramp to Lewisville Lake, rental paddle boarding, full marina, and swimming area. Seasonal restaurant with indoor & outdoor eating areas. Privately owned so there is an entry fee, but 2 or 3 levels of yearly membership passes available saves a lot! Currently upgrading to full hookup for all RV sites and wifi.

    Cedar Hill State Park Campground

    Nice State Park

Nice state Park. We stayed here 3 nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the park has been around awhile it is maintained well. Our site had plenty of room to the next site, had a covered picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hanger. Water pressure was 50 psi, sewer hookup was close, but electrical box was in the front and most modern RV's electrical connection in the back (30 foot cable just reached). The park is close (2.5 miles) to Cedar Hill where you can find shopping, dining, fuel, etc. Would stay here again.

    Cedar Hill State Park Campground

    family fun

I've been camping here plenty of times as a kid growing up in Cedar Hill, TX. My family and I would camp in the spring, early/late summer, and fall months. Plenty of sites have a campfire grill and picnic table along with electrical outlets. Good camping sites for "glampers" who have to have Internet access and electronic use. Finding/reserving a campsite is super easy at the welcome center where you pay an entrance fee to the park. Plenty of lake to share with other people at this state park. My brother would go fishing at the smaller ponds here. At some campsites, you can here the traffic passing by on FM 1382, but if you can sleep through that noise, you'll be fine. Plenty of hiking/biking trails as well. Great to bring pets. Bathrooms are available as well near many of the campgrounds.

Guide to Benbrook

Cabins near Benbrook, Texas offer convenient access to Lake Benbrook, a 3,700-acre reservoir with 15 miles of shoreline managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Most cabin accommodations in this region maintain availability throughout the year, with summer temperatures frequently exceeding 95°F, making air-conditioned options particularly valuable during peak season. Winter cabin rentals typically require supplemental heating, especially from December through February when overnight temperatures can drop below freezing.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Rocky Creek Park at Benbrook Lake provides direct lake access for anglers seeking largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. "The guys were able to go fishing in the nearby lake," notes a visitor to North Texas Jellystone.

Water activities: Multiple cabin locations offer swimming and boating access. At The Vineyards Campground & Cabins, visitors report excellent recreation options: "We boated, kayaked, rented a golf cart and more. The gold sites are worth it! All concrete sites on the water and stone encased cooking areas."

Hiking trails: Cedar Hill State Park provides 1,200 acres of natural habitat with hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. "Very nice park with a variety of campsites. Shaded areas available. Very clean," reports one camper who appreciated the maintained pathways.

What campers like

Kid-friendly amenities: Families consistently rate the structured activities and facilities at cabin resorts highly. "This typically isn't our type of park but the kids enjoyed it. We went in October and they had some fun Halloween activities," mentions one visitor to North Texas Jellystone.

Quiet atmosphere: For those seeking more tranquil accommodations, Hideaway 23 lakefront RV & Cabins offers a more peaceful setting. The adult-focused environment appeals to many guests seeking lakeside relaxation without crowds.

Clean facilities: Many cabin locations maintain high standards for bathrooms and common areas. One visitor to The Vineyards Campground & Cabins noted, "Great place to spend the week. Swim beach, playground, everything you could need. Cleanest bathrooms and showers."

Shade coverage: In the Texas heat, tree cover becomes essential. "Beautiful tree filled park" describes the setting at Treetops RV Resort, where cabin guests appreciate the natural temperature regulation provided by mature trees. "The park is very clean, having done lots of updates. All of the amenities you would want in a park, plus lots and lots of trees."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabin accommodations near Benbrook require advance bookings, particularly during summer months and weekends. Cedar Hill State Park Campground often fills completely on holidays and summer weekends.

Seasonal considerations: Lake levels fluctuate significantly throughout the year. At Rocky Creek Park (Benbrook Lake), one camper noted "Park is nice but closed again" due to flooding issues that occasionally affect availability.

Price variations: Cabin costs vary significantly based on amenities and proximity to water. Basic cabins typically start around $65 per night, while premium lakefront options with utilities can exceed $150 nightly. At North Texas Jellystone, a visitor mentioned, "It was expensive, but we definitely got what we paid for."

Internet connectivity: Most cabins near Benbrook offer limited or unreliable Wi-Fi access. Cell service remains generally strong throughout the area, though signal strength varies by carrier. Visitors requiring consistent connectivity should verify service details before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Schedule around organized events at family-focused resorts. "Lots of activities, good clean sites and golf cart rental!" reports a visitor to North Texas Jellystone. Another mentions, "This is literally the best campground for families. There are tons of activities, games, crafts, pools, petting zoo, water park, and more."

Playground access: For families with children, cabin proximity to play structures matters. Loyd Park receives high ratings for its recreational areas. "Beach area and playgrounds are great, although you do have quite a few 'day users.' The park also has a boat ramp," notes one visitor.

Insect preparation: Bring appropriate repellent, especially during warmer months. "Fire ants and chiggers all over! But the lake was nice," warns one camper about seasonal pest concerns at certain locations.

Budget planning: Family-oriented cabin resorts often charge for additional activities beyond the base cabin rate. A visitor to North Texas Jellystone advised, "We love this Jellystone! We are full time travelers with young kids and they love this RV park. There are sooo many fun activities (be warned, the cost can add up)."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When booking cabin accommodations in RV parks, request locations away from high-traffic areas. "We had one close to the cabins that you can rent and there was just enough room for all our vehicles and tents but not much more," notes one camper about space considerations.

Utility considerations: Cabins vary significantly in utility hookups. At Treetops RV Resort, each cabin includes standard electrical service, but kitchen facilities differ substantially. "Very well maintained with a mix of pull through and back in sites. There is a ton of shade, a pool, dog park and on site very tidy laundry room."

Accessibility concerns: Some cabin locations present challenges for guests with mobility issues. Evaluate terrain, steps, and bathroom facilities before booking. At Dinosaur Valley State Park Campground, visitors note varying accessibility among cabin options: "Sites have 30 amp, water, picnic table & fire ring. Nice clean restrooms & showers."

Security features: Gated cabin communities offer additional security for equipment and belongings. "Very Pretty Views. Large Sites with covered Picnic tables. Sites spread nicely with no one on top of you. Great security visible as well as a coded gate after hours," reports a visitor to The Vineyards Campground & Cabins.
