What to do
Creek exploration: Parksville Lake RV Campground features several campsites along a small stream where children can wade. "We had a great experience at this little campground. There are several sites along a beautiful little creek. It was peaceful, only the occasional car on the nearby road," notes Robert G.
Whitewater adventures: Plan activities around scheduled water releases at Whitewater RV Park - Ocoee TN. "We spent the day hiking the mountain next to rv park. Then went kayaking down the river across the street. The sites are level and concrete with a nice fire pit," reports Justin.
Olympic course visit: Visit the Atlanta Olympic whitewater course at Ocoee River. "Close by Occoee White Water center where the Atlanta olympics took place. Plan your visit around the water release. There schedule is online. Pretty cool to see the water trickle and then mass if water come at you," says Linda B. from Parksville Lake RV Campground.
What campers like
Large campsites: Campers appreciate the spacious sites at Chilhowee Recreation Area. "We love this campground! Large private sites throughout. Flush toilets and hot showers nearby. 25 miles of hiking and biking trails starting right from our campsite," writes Katrin S.
Creek sounds: The bubbling creek provides natural white noise at smaller campgrounds. "Nice little creek flows nearby, had a great experience!" notes Bill G. about Parksville Lake RV Campground.
Sunrise views: Morning vistas from elevated campgrounds impress visitors. "Great Mountain top, RV getaway, water and electric hookup, quiet and pet friendly. Amazing views of the morning sunrise over the mountain tops," says Roy S. about Top of the World RV.
What you should know
WiFi connectivity: Internet access varies widely between campgrounds. "They have WiFi but not very fast," Jeremy B. reports about Top of the World RV, while at Peachtree Cove RV Park, reviewers note reliable connectivity.
Road conditions: Mountain roads present navigation challenges. "To get to this campground you have to go up a steep narrow windy mountain road. The camp sites are distanced well and the entire campground is in the shade," Carissa D. warns about Chilhowee Recreation Area.
Tent camping limitations: Many parks cater primarily to RVs. "The campsite was exactly what I was looking for -- easy to get to, quiet, and dark. It was definitely more geared towards RVs, but a few of us had tents," Julie notes about Parksville Lake RV Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Accessible waterfalls: Families enjoy the waterfall hikes near campgrounds. "There's a small hike to Cumberland Falls, which is gorgeous!! We had a great time! Hot water for showers/restroom facilities," shares Alison B. about Chilhowee Recreation Area.
Wildlife viewing: Unique wildlife experiences near Murphy. "Deb wants me to mention that she enjoyed watching the cows at the neighboring farm cool off in the river," notes Debbie V. about Peachtree Cove RV Park.
Off-season camping: Consider shoulder season visits to avoid crowds. "F loop is very quiet during the week. $12 non electric. Water spigots can be found throughout the campground," advises Katrin S. about Chilhowee Recreation Area.
Tips from RVers
Leveling challenges: Be prepared for uneven terrain. "Because sites are loose gravel, leveling can be a challenge is your rig does not auto level," Jeremy B. cautions about Top of the World RV.
RV maneuverability: Some parks present navigation difficulties. "We stayed here for the weekend when we were rafting the Ocoee. Small Campground but perfect if rafting. We were in 35 foot trailer but some tight turns in camp ground. If large rig then call for advice on site," recommends Scott H. from Parksville Lake RV Campground.
Site selection: Research specific sites for larger rigs. "The RV sites are well shaded and well spaced and many will accomodate large R.V.'s. Several sites offer the opportunity for two R.V.'s to camp close together and some are located along a small stream," explains a reviewer at Parksville Lake RV Campground.
