Spring Lake RV Resort offers lakeside camping with full hookup sites, while Deer Run RV Resort accommodates big rigs with spacious pull-through sites. Most parks remain open year-round, though some reduce services during winter months. Spring Lake RV Resort

    Nice and quiet little campground.

64 full hook-up with 30 and 50 amp electric on the sites. Site 1 only had a 30 amp and was the smallest in the campground. They had wifi and cable TV that was available. Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1. Restrooms and showers were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We were told they were full but several sites remained empty during our stay. Would have liked to have had a lake side site or a larger level site. Owners were friendly as well as the guests. I believe they had some full-time living there too. I would go back.

Mountain Glen RV Park & Campground

    The Best of the Best!

Mountain Glen is a hidden gem! If you are traveling through eastern TN or just looking for a place to park your RV for a few weeks or longer of peaceful quiet then you have to stay here. I've stayed in RV parks across 38 states and never found cleaner bathrooms, friendlier customer service, or faster WiFi (and that's important since I work remotely!) than what Mountain Glen RV Park offers. They've also got great water pressure, easy pull-throughs, after-hour check-in options, and a convenient store in case you forgot some essentials. In addition to the great amenities, you'll be greeted by rolling scenic vistas of beautiful countryside, having fishing opportunities, pavilion or indoor meeting room to hang out with friends, playground for the kids, and pet friendly areas for your dogs to enjoy.

Mountain Glen is definitely a must-stay and the best of the best of all the RV parks and campgrounds I've ever stayed at!

    Spring Lake RV Resort

Our favorite RV park this trip

We were on an sudden, urgent trip with minimal pre-planning and no reservations. We contacted Spring Lake an hour before arrival and they were super helpful, providing a level overnight pull-through site reservation. We were arriving an hour after the office closed and they made arrangements to help us get settled. We were so appreciative of the consideration. Overall we felt the amenities and the setting were the nicest of this 1200 mile trip. Pretty, very well maintained. Level sites with picnic table and convenient hook-ups. The sites are built around a small lake. I suspect most of the leases are long-term. Friendly manager and friendly residents. We walked around the lake and found they had sitting areas and gazebos where you could relax during the day or at night. A couple of miles off the interstate so no road noise and very quiet at night. You can pick up fast food dinner on the way to the park.

    Edgar Evins State Park Campground

    GlamperGirl

This is my favorite place to camp. If you have furbabies you will love it. All campsites except the primitive are huge decks. Electric, water, grill, fire ring, picnic table and canopy of trees. Bathrooms are always clean. Showers have hot water fast. Fire wood is all around in the woods. Kayaking is great! Put in below Center Hill dam. 6 mile run of clear cold water! Stocked with trout. I don't fish but if you do, you will need a trout stamp. If you don't own kayaks there is a store called Big Rock Market. You can contact them and they will set you up with kayaks and they drop off and pick you up. So, back to the campground. Dog friendly, clean, 30 and 50 amp.,coin laundry at the camp store. Dump station and trash. Playground for children, view of the lake from most sites. Marina where you can rent boats. I just can't say enough about this awesome place. Friendly staff. I actually just stopped the ranger driving by to ask him a few questions. I am at site 9 this time. Usually 25. Some have inclines or declines. 9 has a slight decline 25 is flat. When you go to the map and click on a site it will tell you. Like site 23 is right next to a bathroom, but it has a steep incline. So pay attention to that when booking. There are hiking trails and wildlife. The woodpeckers start about 6:00 am. LOL! I have not seen a snake in the camping area. Just deer and birds.

    Cumberland Mountain State Park Campground

Great for RVs, Ok for Tents

This campground is located within the Cumberland Mountain State Park. The sites are set up for RVs and it is very popular.

Pros: There is no camp store, but there are vending machines available. There are restrooms available. Staff is in the office during business hours. There are 2 short hiking trails (less than 1 mile in length each). There are playgrounds, a lake for fishing, and a golf course. Each site has parking for 1 vehicle, a large gravel pad, water and electric hookup, picnic table, and lantern hook.

Cons: site are very close together. Tents and RVs do not have separate loops. No camp store. No showers.

Overall, this campground is set up to cater more toward those with RVs than people camping in tents.

Pickett CCC Memorial State Park Campground

    OMG! O

We stayed for a few days and as a backpacker, the local hikes are some of the best I have ever seen! I would say most of the hikes are moderate, although some say easy. Grandma couldn’t leisurely walk, or scale some of the trails, so you have been warned. But for able bodied persons, the hikes are all doable. There are quite the variety of hike lengths to choose from, from short and squatty, to full day hikes. I’ll submit some of my favorite shots below. For RVs - I was towing a 21 ft trailer and my site at the bottom of the hill, which was away from other campers, but the grade was ridiculous! I had 6” of block height to level side to side! I heard other complaints from other longer tongue pullers as well, regarding the difficulty getting into their sites. Most of the sites are small, too close to other campers, or too close to the smell of the privies. But if you are hiking the area, I think the stay could be worth some of the hassle. There is a pull through dump station on the loop. There is electric and water. Tent campers - probably have plenty of room to spread out, some with power hookups and the convenience of showers at a central bathhouse. Daytime picnics - a beautifully large area to choose from and see. Lots of selections, all of them very well social distanced, family friendly and shaded with trees. Soooo much to see.

    Hornsby Hollow Campground

    Great Lakeside Campground

Great Lakeside campground. I grew up camping here. It’s close to home and our favorite place to go locally. A lot of the sites are shaded. Sites are spaced out nicely and not on top of each other. No sewer but do have dump station. Owners are friendly and helpful. They have a small playground, two swimming areas and a boat ramp. Sites are gravel and have a fire ring and concrete picnic tables.

Mountain Glen RV Park & Campground

Not much of anything to improve!

I almost hate to leave such a review because I’m afraid I’ll never get into it again. Obviously we will return.

    Pros:

    • Usable internet - very important to us because husband works from the road
    • CLEAN, well kept
    • bathrooms so well done with showers individual rooms
    • laundry room nice and reasonably priced
    • game room and playground for kids of all ages
    • nice pond with small creek
    • pet friendly
    • full hookups and reasonable prices
    • nice, quaint store on site
    • FRIENDLY staff

    Cons

    • sites are closer together than we prefer, but everything else makes up for that
    • closest town 30 minutes down the mountain, however the Mennonite stores would have some things you might need only 15 minutes away.

Guide to Monterey

RV campgrounds near Monterey, Tennessee sit at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 feet in the Cumberland Plateau region. The area experiences distinct seasons with cool springs, warm summers averaging 85°F, and fall temperatures dropping to 40-50°F by November. Cell service can be unreliable in certain locations due to the mountainous terrain, particularly in valleys and remote camping areas.

What to do

Fishing access points: Multiple campgrounds offer convenient access to fishing opportunities. Deer Run RV Resort features a well-stocked fishing lake as noted by a camper who mentioned it was "reasonably priced" with "plenty of room for larger campers." The surrounding area also provides access to Dale Hollow Lake for additional water recreation.

Hiking nearby: Brooks Corner Campground offers proximity to Historic Rugby trails. A visitor commented, "It is right behind the Brooks store and less than a mile from Rugby. Both the store and town are a step back in history." The campground's location makes it ideal for exploring the natural and historical hiking options.

Stargazing opportunities: The rural location of many campgrounds provides excellent night sky viewing. A camper at Brooks Corner noted, "Star view on a clear night is awesome due to the lack of nearby city lights." Limited light pollution throughout the plateau region creates ideal conditions for astronomy enthusiasts.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Paradise on the Mountain RV Park receives consistent praise for its maintenance. A recent reviewer stated, "This place is new and well taken care of. Staff are SUPER friendly and helpful... I think this is the cleanest bathhouse I've ever seen." The park's modern amenities stand out to visitors.

Spacious layouts: Many campers appreciate the room to spread out. At Deer Run RV Resort, a visitor observed, "Level camp sites with plenty of room for larger campers." Another mentioned the resort has "huge spots and most are pull through" with "tons of shade trees."

Pet-friendly amenities: Dog owners particularly enjoy designated pet areas. A camper at Paradise on the Mountain mentioned, "There is a great dog trail and a fenced dog run." Similarly, at Owl Hollow Retreat RV Park, a visitor appreciated that "Our dog is able to run for the first time in months here."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Some campgrounds in the area have limited availability during winter months. Brooks Corner provides services from spring through fall, while Breckenridge RV Resort specifically operates "March 1 to November 30." Always check seasonal closures before planning winter trips.

Variable site leveling: Be prepared for uneven terrain at some locations. A camper at Spring Lake RV Resort reported, "Sites were fairly level. I had to use 2 yellow flat blocks on site 1." At Deer Run, another noted their "site was very un-level and could not get the camper to auto level."

Limited amenities at smaller parks: Some smaller RV parks offer fewer services. Misty Mountain RV Resort has only 3 sites and lacks showers and restrooms, while Sleepy Bear RV Park has 21 sites but no shower facilities. Verify available amenities before booking, especially for extended stays.

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: McDermit RV Park offers family-friendly features in a newer setting. A visitor noted it has "nice amenities and the owners live on site which is good. The sites are large and the one I had offered privacy." Paradise on the Mountain also features what one camper called an "adorable playground for the kids."

Water recreation options: Several campgrounds provide water activities for children. A visitor to Deer Run mentioned the resort has "a nice lake on the property with a beach. Also has a big pool!" These features provide entertainment options for families with children of various ages.

On-site food options: Some campgrounds offer convenient dining. A camper at Brooks Corner noted the on-site general store "has Lunch 11-5 Mon-Sat and Breakfast on Sats starting at 830." This convenience can be valuable when camping with children who need regular meal times.

Tips from RVers

WiFi reliability varies: Internet connectivity differs significantly between parks. A guest at Paradise on the Mountain commented, "The WiFi is free and excellent," while another camper mentioned that Deer Run "charge[s] for WiFi." Spring Lake offers WiFi, but signal strength can vary based on site location.

Electrical considerations: Some RVers have encountered power issues. At Deer Run, a camper reported, "We put our surge protector on and the power at the site kept shorting out... Turned breakers back on to turn on a/c and it blew again." Bringing a surge protector is recommended for all RV sites in the area.
