Best RV Parks & Resorts near Jasper, TN

Shellmound RV Resort & Campground in Jasper, Tennessee offers big-rig friendly sites with 50 amp electric hookups and water connections from February through mid-January. Located on TVA Road near Nickajack Dam, this park provides RV campers with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to a sanitary dump station, though it lacks sewer hookups at individual sites. Just 20 minutes south, Battlefield Campground & RV Park in Ringgold, Georgia features year-round full hookup sites with 50 amp service, while R&R RV Campground in Dunlap provides spacious pull-through sites with full hookups. Hawkins Pointe RV Park in Rossville accommodates 67 RVs with full hookup sites including 30/50 amp electrical service. "Sites are gravel and vary; some are back-in, some are pull-through and some are parallel," noted one camper about the region's typical setup.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with most parks near Jasper reporting 2-3 bars on Verizon networks. Many RV parks in the region are pet-friendly with designated dog areas, though leash requirements are strictly enforced. Propane is available at select locations including Holiday Travel Park. Interstate noise can be noticeable at parks situated close to I-24, particularly for light sleepers. Navigation to some RV parks requires careful attention, as several campgrounds are accessed via residential neighborhoods or narrow mountain roads with elevation changes. Dump stations are available at most parks, though their placement sometimes requires disconnecting tow vehicles before departure. During summer months and fall foliage season, advance reservations are essential as the limited number of full hookup sites fill quickly, especially at waterfront locations.

    Rvino - The Broken Banjo

    Love this place

I stayed in spot 8 during the Coronavirus lockdown. The staff is very friendly. It’s near I-24 which makes getting places easy. It will be noisy if you are sound sensitive. It is well maintained. The laundry room is great. You can get anything you need from the store. Perfect pull through sites for a big rig overnight stop. Great sites with picnic table, fire pits for longer stays. Nice pool, sparkling clean restrooms. The dogs loved the dog park. The amenities for kids are great. Highly recommend.

    Chattanooga North-Cleveland KOA

    Clean, Quiet, Friendly

Friendly Staff, Clean Bathrooms, Convenient Location. No honeywagon for water and electric only sites, but dump station in campground. Some very nice private sites and none of the sites except maybe a few look very small or tight- pretty spread out. Lots of tent sites. You definitely hear the highway here, but not a big concern for us. Pet friendly with a very nice dog park. Pool for the kids. Playground is little more than a residential style wood swingset, but it kept the kids entertained.

Mountain Glen RV Park & Campground

    The Best of the Best!

Mountain Glen is a hidden gem! If you are traveling through eastern TN or just looking for a place to park your RV for a few weeks or longer of peaceful quiet then you have to stay here. I've stayed in RV parks across 38 states and never found cleaner bathrooms, friendlier customer service, or faster WiFi (and that's important since I work remotely!) than what Mountain Glen RV Park offers. They've also got great water pressure, easy pull-throughs, after-hour check-in options, and a convenient store in case you forgot some essentials. In addition to the great amenities, you'll be greeted by rolling scenic vistas of beautiful countryside, having fishing opportunities, pavilion or indoor meeting room to hang out with friends, playground for the kids, and pet friendly areas for your dogs to enjoy.

Mountain Glen is definitely a must-stay and the best of the best of all the RV parks and campgrounds I've ever stayed at!

Fairview Campground — Tims Ford State Park

    Camp by the Lake!

You can camp by the water at Tim’s Ford Lake. Some sites have full hook up’s up to 50 amp. Sewer hook up is not available at the water sites. We enjoy this campground. Great for kayaking and fishing. Family friendly.
35’ Fifth Wheel was a breeze at most sites, a couple sites may be tight.

    DeSoto State Park Campground

    Very quiet and relaxing

Desoto State Park is on top of Lookout Mountain about 8 miles northeast of Fort Payne, In Northeast Alabama. DeSoto Falls - also part of DeSoto State Park - is located about 7 miles north of the park near Mentone, Alabama. The Campground has 94 full-hookup tent and RV sites. Most are Back-In Sites, with a few Pull-Thru. All sites have water, & electric, and sewer. They are about 16 feet by 60 feet deep with 50/30 Amp Service, Cable TV.
There are picnic tables and Grills on each site. There are two large bathroom/shower buildings with coin-operated laundry. There is a Wi-fi hotspots at each bathhouse (wifi does not reach to every campsite) There are also Primitive Camping sites for tents as well as two back country campsites with shelters. Along with camping, Kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, cycling, rappelling, bouldering and picnicking are popular.

    Buck's Pocket State Park Campground

    A great park reopened!

We stayed at Bucks Pocket State Park recently for five nights and had a wonderful time. This park was recently reopened after being closed for a few years, lots of work has been completed to the campground and facilities. The sites are very nice with full concrete pads, 50/30 amp electrical, water, picnic table, fire ring and grill. There are a few sites that are on the bank of Sauty Creek that also have sewer hook ups. This is a very small campground with only 23 RV sites, 4 of them are pull through. There are also about 8 tent only sites. There are clean and well stocked bathrooms located at the park office and also includes a laundry facility. The office also sells firewood and ice if needed.

There are a few hiking trails that range in levels of difficulty, we hiked the trail to the overlook that I would classify as pretty arduous, the pay off was the Little Sauty Creek waterfall near the top and the beautiful vista of Point Lookout. The trail ascends 800 feet in elevation from the pocket floor to the summit so plan accordingly. There is also an off road vehicle (ORV) trail here so the park attracts these vehicles to the campground on the weekends.

The park host (Jesse and his wife) are very friendly and involved, he is visible throughout the day ensuring the park is maintained and orderly.

There will be little to no cell service or over the air TV reception due to the park being in the valley floor. The park does provide good WIFI that could be received throughout the campground.

A huge thank you to the State of Alabama for providing the resources to restore this great facility to the state park system. Also, an extra recognition to the A Year to Volunteer (https://www.youtube.com/c/AYeartoVolunteer) organization for the extraordinary effort and contribution to this park's rebirth.

    Battlefield Campground & RV Park

    Woodsy Wayside

Battlefield Campground is an extremely convenient RV park located right of I-75 about 20 minutes south of Chattanooga. It is very easy to get to, but part of that convenience comes with an absence of quiet; the interstate runs directly beside the campground, and is visible from the storage sites across from sites 11-24.

This is an excellent place for long-term campers, and it includes a nice playground, a pool, and a camp store/clubhouse. We could not get close to the pool or playground as they were closed due to COVID-19, which was comforting that they are taking public safety seriously. Sites include 50 and 30 amp full service, and seven tent sites in the middle of the campground that also include electric. There are seven camping cabins spaced throughout the campground that have outside picnic tables and grills, and beds inside as well as electricity.

Most of the sites here are nicely wooded, and as the area is slightly hilly there are elevation changes between several rows of sites which allows for a little more privacy than many RV parks offer.

Downsides to this park are the highway noise, and the campground roads are paved but in need of maintenance; the road is eroded in a lot of places.

Upsides are the sites are shady and well landscaped, and there are great amenities for families looking to stay here for extended periods of time, as well as the proximity to Chattanooga, Chickamauga Battlefield, and Ringold/Ft. Oglethorpe.

    DeSoto State Park Campground

    A Family Favorite

Desoto State Park is one of our favorite Alabama places to visit, located in Northeastern Alabama and the southern end of Lookout Mountain. We try to camp here in the spring and fall each year when available, the closest towns are Fort Payne and Mentone. There are ample shopping areas and restaurants in Fort Payne which is about 10 miles from the campground if you need to make the trip down. The park has so much to offer and the staff there goes the extra effort to ensure your stays are pleasant and enjoyable. The hiking trails are abundant throughout the park, the Scout Trail is our favorite as it winds next to the river banks and over numerous rocks and scenic water features. This trail can be physically challenging and be sure to verify the river levels beforehand.

The campground is well maintained and the sites are level for the most part, our favorite site is 25 but we’ve stayed in several others end enjoyed those as well. The sites in the upper and lower loops are mostly back in sites with a couple of pull through and buddy sites also. The middle section is all pull through sites for the large coaches and 5th wheel RV’s. All sites at Desoto are equipped with water, electric, sewer, cable TV, table, fire ring and grills. The bath houses are some of the cleanest we’ve seen, relatively new with excellent amenities including laundry. There is also WIFI broadcast at each of the bath houses.

There is a great lodge restaurant, cabins old and new, swimming pool, tennis courts, Zip Line and a CCC museum. Put this one on your list as it’s never disappointed our family. The Little River Canyon Preserve is nearby with additional hiking and fantastic Canyon vistas you will have to go see.

    Wills Creek RV Park

    Good Location

Quiet RV park close to Ft Payne and surrounding parks such as Desoto state Park. Close to Little River Canyon waterfall among others. (A must see). Sites at park very close together and our dually truck had to be parked sideways in front or back of site. One side of park is for long term stays while the other side is for up to two week stays. Other than that friendly check in and was able to have ups delivery. Available Sites are able to be chosen when get there.  Internet using Verizon (nomad) for work is only ok. My husband was able to work on conference calls ect but had one dropped call and while he was working I wasn’t able to use our internet. Evening hours when trying to stream sling was difficult to non existent the second week of our stay. Gave it 4 stars due to friendliness and ups delivery.

Guide to Jasper

Camping near Jasper, Tennessee centers around the Tennessee River watershed with elevations ranging from 620 to 1,350 feet. The region experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures and hot, humid summers where daytime highs regularly exceed 90°F. Most campgrounds in the area close between mid-January and early February for seasonal maintenance.

What to do

Hiking on Little Cedar Mountain Trail: Access this moderate 4-mile loop trail near Shellmound RV Resort & Campground for views of Nickajack Lake. "The playground for the kids was awesome! You're next to a dock on the TN River, so water activities were easy & fun," notes a visitor who enjoyed the convenient water access.

Zipline adventures: Experience multiple ziplines at Bigfoot Adventure RV park & Campground in Tracy City, about 25 minutes from Jasper. "Great experience for kids. Wonderful views and lots of open space to play in fields and walk. Kids can also zip line!" shares Kayla L., highlighting the family-friendly activities.

Waterfall exploration: Visit the multi-tiered waterfalls at Greeter Falls, located minutes from camping options. "Make sure to do the whole loop so that you can appreciate the rock formations and cliffs. We did this hike in the afternoon and got a nice dip in at the falls since it was such a hot day," recommends Asher K.

What campers like

Fishing opportunities: Multiple ponds for catch-and-release fishing draw anglers to the area. "Had a blast fishing in the ponds. Didn't get a chance to zip line but looks like a blast. They seem to be adding things… disc golf maybe. Great park with clean facilities," reports Frank A. about Bigfoot Adventure RV park.

Scenic mountain views: Many campgrounds offer expansive vistas of the surrounding landscape. "Very open and not hard to get RV into spots. Wonderful views and lots of open space to play in fields and walk," notes a camper at Bigfoot Adventure, describing the spacious layout.

Proximity to swimming holes: Several campgrounds provide direct access to swimming areas. At Greeter Falls Campground, "There were lots of people there enjoying the space and everyone was incredibly friendly. I will definitely be checking out this campground on my next visit to the area," shares a visitor who enjoyed the community atmosphere at the falls.

What you should know

Cell service coverage: Connectivity varies substantially based on campground location and elevation. At R&R RV Campground in Dunlap, service is typically strong enough for video calls due to its valley location, while mountain campgrounds experience more limited coverage.

Seasonal maintenance closures: Most RV parks near Jasper close for 2-6 weeks between mid-January and February. "We have used this spot as a late night stopover while en route to Florida. Little ways off the interstate, but has full hookups," notes Michael L. about Bigfoot Adventure, highlighting its utility as a travel waypoint.

Site spacing varies significantly: Campgrounds range from spacious to compact. "There isn't much here but the owner's hospitality makes up for that! There a few pull throughs sites that have full hookup then a row of electric & water sites," explains Elizabeth L. about R&R RV Campground, noting the limited amenities but excellent service.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly facilities: Most campgrounds welcome pets with specific guidelines. "Dogs allowed but like always you have to clean up after and be a good dog owner (not letting them out alone, not letting them in the pond) you know the usual," advises Elizabeth L. about R&R RV Campground in Dunlap.

Kid-friendly scavenger hunts: Some campgrounds offer organized activities for children. "There's also a scavenger hunt he put out that's super fun!! The only reason I believe it's 4 stars is because I usually like parks that have more for children," mentions Elizabeth L. about R&R RV Campground.

Tent site selection: When booking primitive sites, check dimensions carefully. At Greeter Falls Campground, one camper notes: "Be sure to check the site measurements. Our only complaint was the site size & distance to our neighbor. We stayed at primitive site 1. Flat area for your tent, then a slight slope towards the walkway."

Tips from RVers

RV site types: Battlefield Campground & RV Park in Ringgold offers year-round service with varying site configurations. "Battlefield Campground is an extremely convenient RV park located right of I-75 about 20 minutes south of Chattanooga. It is very easy to get to, but part of that convenience comes with an absence of quiet; the interstate runs directly beside the campground," explains Stephanie J.

Seasonal decorations: Some campgrounds enhance the camping experience with holiday decorations. "They have the entire campground decorated for the holidays and it is adorable!" notes Adam A. about Shellmound RV Resort, making it particularly appealing for winter camping before their mid-January closure.

Hookup considerations: RV campers should verify which utilities are available at each site. "Very nice camp ground right beside the interstate. On the TN/GA boarder. Easy to get to anything. No bathhouse, pool or other amenities. Does have very nice place to walk, dog park/wash, corn hole, fire pit with two chairs to use," describes Kimberly Z. about Hawkins Pointe RV Park in Rossville.
