The prairie landscape surrounding Richland Reservoir allows for extended riding opportunities across public grasslands. Horse owners should note the area experiences significant winds, requiring careful placement of portable corrals and secure tethering systems. The clay access road becomes problematic during wet conditions, potentially trapping vehicles pulling horse trailers. Water for horses must be carried in or accessed from the reservoir. Wildlife observations, including deer, antelope, and birds, enhance the riding experience. The reservoir also provides fishing opportunities for campers. Cell service remains limited with most visitors reporting only one bar of service, making advance trip planning essential. During hunting seasons, particularly grouse season, the camping area experiences higher usage rates.

      Great Campground!

We stopped here on our way across South Dakota, and it was the perfect place. It’s right off the interstate and is extremely well-managed and clean. They have lots of yard space to walk dogs along their property, and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful throughout our stay!

      Nice little stop over

We stopped for 1 note on the way west to Mt. Rushmore. It is a nice little park with a friendly staff that likes to show folks the garden. Ultra clean RR's and showers with nice tile and woodwork. Definitely a stop over as Presho is a 1 horse town!

      Lovely sunrise!

We were just there for the night, driving through. We found friendly staff, very clean bathrooms, and a good location, close off I 90, and east walk to a corner store. Would stay here again.

And, as our dogs woke us early, and the sunrise really was lovely.

      Great stopover

We luckily found this place in Presho, SD. The host was a friendly lady named Gwen and the campground was neat and clean. It was an easy stop off I-90. Every site is a gravel pull through with full hookups and trash containers are close to every sight. They also offer free popcorn and coffee. I saw a nice swing set, slide, and basketball goal. Also they have cabins, a restroom, and tent area. Good Sam discount… around $46 for 2 adults and 2 dachshunds. Would stay here again.

      Wonderful shower pressure

We were only staying for a night, but we found this campground just fine.

Plus: amazing hot water and water pressure in the showers. Amazing wifi (best we’ve had available this trip). Most sites had a wooden covered area for the picnic table, which would be very helpful if it rained.

Con: site wasn’t completely level, showers and bathrooms had curtains only, not doors.

There were lots of garbage bins. Other reviews mentioned the tired mobile homes near the entrance. They are separated from the RV park by a chain link fence. The RV side is clean and maintained.

      Awesome!

Stayed here one night on the way to My Rushmore. Checkin super easy and she made a great dinner recommendation for the best burger in Custer. Campground was peaceful, set in the trees, and we saw hot air balloons over head in the morning with some friendly wild turkeys walking through. Overall, awesome with clean bathroom shower. Will stay again for sure.
