Twin Lakes at Lake Hartwell provides waterfront camping for pets and their owners near Clemson. The Corps of Engineers campground maintains clean sites with water and electric hookups where dogs are welcome year-round. Most sites feature level gravel pads with picnic tables and fire pits, positioned along Lake Hartwell with easy water access. Mile Creek County Park and Devils Fork State Park Campground also accommodate pets with various lodging options including tent sites, RV spots, and cabins. Skunks frequently visit campsites at Twin Lakes but typically don't bother campers or pets as long as they aren't startled.
Walking trails surrounding the campgrounds offer exercise opportunities for dogs, with many sites providing direct lake access for swimming. During summer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended due to high temperatures that can reach 95+ degrees. Leashed pets are permitted at nearby Fants Grove horse trails along Lake Hartwell, though no overnight horse boarding is available. Twin Lakes features multiple loops with varying levels of privacy between sites—sites 3-24 provide more seclusion and elbow room than sites 42-43, which sit very close together. The campground remains particularly busy during Clemson football weekends when reservations become difficult to secure.

Very very nice campground. Good signage and off 441 N. Not any places to eat without going into Clayton. Beautiful park with large sites, some paved. Laundry to was clean. Reasonable size dog park, dog walk and outside dog bath. Lots of trees, very clean and trash pickup at your site. Office lady was very nice and check in was efficient, even though we made the reservations at the last minute. It’s not cheap by any means but you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Great place to spend a couple of nights. Went over Labor Day weekend with 5 or 6 other groups and still felt like we had full privacy. Fire pits, an outdoor shower, and a porta-potty. Cute horses and barn cats to pet and watch
Very pretty campground in the fall. Operators live onsite and were friendly. Full connections and no issues leveling. Easy in/out and close to Greenville, Paris Mountain, Travelers Rest, Swamp Rabbit Trail etc. Bathhouses were very clean, but the lights are on motion detectors which weren’t sensitive enough to pick you up in the shower. We both had a couple moments of total darkness to contend with. A camp cat hung around our site at times and loved the heat coming out of our furnace. We don’t have pets so didn’t mind. Cell coverage was great (att & Verizon), so we had no issues working our 9-5s. Love the bubbling creek next to our site, which was so pretty from our back window. We’d definitely stay again.
This gem is on Georgia South Carolina line and off the beaten path.

We travel and camp at many places across South Carolina but this was our first visit to Calhoun Falls State Park. What a gem! Beautiful scenery, large, spacious lakeside campsites. We enjoyed privacy, lake access from our campsite, and spectacular sunset views over the lake. Rangers and staff at park store are friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to go back.
This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights. We had a change of plans the morning of checkout, and they let us check out a little late since the park wasn’t fully booked, which was so helpful and kind of them. The park is centrally located near downtown Greer (very cute with lots of shops and restaurants) and a short drive from Greenville and Travelers Rest. We will definitely be back while passing through this area next time!
we stayed during spring break . no fire rings but they will bring a fir pit to your site. pool was still closed due to it still being chilly. sites were really close. they do have a small store. cabins and full hook up sites are available. new owners said a dog park was in the plans in the future. grounds were well kept a dog bath and clean bathrooms and showers. good base for day trips to water falls, Cherokee, or Maggie Valley
This was by far one of the coolest weekends I spent in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Pisgah National Forest on the outskirts of Asheville, NC is a must stop for all ages. I say that specifically for not just the camping, but what can keep you entertained during your afternoons as well. We stayed at the Davidson River Campground which was right near the entrance of the forest if you're coming in from the south, as I did in South Carolina. There's over 150 campsites here, and we lucked out by finding one on short notice. The location of the campground is neat given its location by the river, but it's even cooler given is location near Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls. Within a few minute drive, or bit of a hike you can ride a natural waterslide or sit in the pool beneath looking glass falls. Even in Mid-July the water will keep you chilled. One of my favorite places to visit in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Lake Hartwell camping areas around Clemson include Corps of Engineers campgrounds and county parks in both South Carolina and Georgia. Average summer temperatures in the region reach above 90°F with high humidity from June through August. Many campgrounds feature direct water access for fishing, swimming, and boating with varied terrain from gently sloping shorelines to rocky beaches.
Fishing spots: Lake Hartwell offers ample fishing opportunities from campground shorelines. "If you enjoy fishing there's great trout," notes one camper at Devils Fork State Park Campground.
Waterfall hikes: 25-minute drive from campgrounds to nearby trails. A visitor at Keowee-Toxaway State Park mentions, "We love the upstate, so we went to see the nearby twin falls. Well worth the trip, an easy drive and hike in to this spectacular waterfall."
Primitive camping: Paddle-in sites available at select locations. "We kayaked in our inflatables a short way across the lake to our primitive camping site which included nearby firewood that we could collect and use in a provided firepit area," reports a camper about Keowee-Toxaway State Park.
Lake swimming: Multiple beach areas with swimming access. "The swimming area was nice and the playgrounds were sadly closed but definitely would have been enjoyed by my kids!" according to a reviewer at Twin Lakes.
Clean facilities: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Clemson maintain regular cleaning schedules. "Bath houses were conveniently located. Lots of hills so it was a little hard for the little kids to get around on bikes," notes a visitor at Mile Creek County Park.
Lake visibility: Most sites offer lake views. "We got all the spots we wanted. We had 5 spots in a culdesac surrounded by the lake on all sides," shares a Mile Creek County Park camper.
Boat access: Direct launch possibilities from campsites. "We have a boat and get the same site every time and are always happy staying there," explains a visitor at Twin Lakes at Lake Hartwell.
Wildlife viewing: Natural encounters common across the area. One camper at Oconee Point described the park as "beautiful & quiet" with "most every site on the water."
Reservation timing: Book 3-6 months ahead for prime sites. "Book your trip a few months in advance, get a spot on the water. Sites are a little small, and close together, but the sunrise from your tent/site is totally worth it," advises a camper at Devils Fork State Park Campground.
Gate hours: Many parks lock entrance gates at night. "The campground has a gate that gets locked at 10 pm. You can leave but you can't come back into the campground after the gate gets locked," notes a visitor at Mile Creek County Park.
Variable site spacing: Some loops offer more privacy than others. At Coneross Park Campground, "A lot of the campsites are close together, but we snagged a site along the west side of the campground, where there's a little more privacy and seclusion."
Summer heat management: High temperatures affect camping comfort. "All we could have wished for was a breeze, it was stifling hot (95+)," notes a Twin Lakes visitor.
Water shoes required: Rocky lake bottoms at many swimming areas. At Mile Creek County Park, "You need water shoes for swimming in the lake as it is rocky, but it has a perfect shallow end for little ones and very deep for kayaking and stuff like that."
Multiple playgrounds: Recreation options throughout parks. Coneross Park Campground has "two beaches and multiple playgrounds, and the paved roads make for fun bike riding."
Geese problems: Wildlife management considerations important. "Don't feed the geese! The campers next to us fed them and the next day we woke up with goose poop on everything! Including the picnic table!" warns a visitor to South Cove County Park.
Floating equipment: Bring water toys for lake enjoyment. "We loved staying here for a birthday weekend. Dog friendly, right on the water, clean restrooms," shares a camper about Twin Lakes.
Limited hookups: Most parks offer water/electric only. At South Cove County Park, "All sites have 50 amp electric and water hook-up. It sits out on a peninsula on Lake Keowee in Seneca, SC. Almost every site is on the water, and those that aren't, have a water view."
Site leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven terrain at some parks. "Most sites have lake views. During the time of our visit, only one area was open for camping. We picked site 42 out of a handful of available sites, all seemingly equal," explains a Twin Lakes camper.
Pull-through availability: Select parks offer easier access options. At Tugaloo State Park, "We were in site #8 right on the lake. Water, electric and cable tv connections. No sites with sewer, but dump station has two receptacles so there was no wait to dump tanks on way out."
Shade considerations: Summer heat affects site selection. "Most sites on the water are without shade, so be prepared in hotter months," notes a South Cove County Park visitor.
