Best RV Parks & Resorts near Union, SC

Several RV parks near Union, South Carolina provide full hookup options for travelers. Fireside RV Park offers 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on grassy sites that accommodate big rigs. Cunningham RV Park in Spartanburg features pull-through sites with full hookups, a swimming pool, playground, and laundry facilities. GSP RV Park in Greer maintains 36 sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer hookups in a location convenient to Interstate 85. Most parks in the region have gravel roads and pads, though site spacing varies considerably between locations. "Sites are fairly close but the people all seemed friendly. There is no office or showers or anything like that. The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you."

Seasonal availability remains consistent throughout the year at most Union area RV parks, with several facilities operating year-round. Cell service varies by location, with Verizon coverage reported as strong at Cunningham RV Park but potentially limited in more rural settings. Many parks accommodate pets but enforce leash requirements. Propane is available at select locations, including Iron City Campground which sells it for $3.75/gallon. Dump stations are present at larger facilities, though some smaller parks like Fireside lack this amenity. Travelers should note that several parks cater primarily to long-term residents, which can affect site availability and atmosphere. Electrical hookups at some locations may require inspection before use, as one reviewer noted encountering "a little sketchy" electrical boxes that had been updated with new 50-amp outlets.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Overall a Good Experience

Took the new pop-up to Kings Mountain State Park this past weekend and had a great time. The sites are pretty close together, but we still had adequate room to spread out. Each site has water, 30 amp electric, a picnic table, and a fire pit ring. Our site was a pull-through, but the majority of them are back-in. Throughout the campground, AT&T had great cell coverage, but Verizon was non-existent. Our site was a stone's throw from the bath/shower house, which was clean and recently updated. When not in the side, a short walk takes you to the Trading Post, a small store selling firewood ($7), ice, souvenirs, and sundries. Next to that is a large playground connected to a pavilion. A short 2 minute drive (or longer hike if you are feeling ambitious) takes you to the Kings Mountain Military Museum where you can learn of all things historical to Kings Mountain. There's a small model village and numerous other attractions to view while at the park as well. Overall this was a great experience. It's close to home for us, and the price was fantastic ($30 nightly). Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Spacious Skies Peach Haven

    Nice campground, lots of amenities.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean park conveniently located to the interstate I-85) and attractions in the area. It has all the amenities you would expect to find at a KOA such as a swimming pool, playground, dog park, miniature golf, store, clubhouse, and more (including goats). It is by far the nicest private campground in the area that we have stayed at.

This KOA has 127 sites offering varying degrees of services to accommodate RV's, tents, and those wanting to rent cabins. We chose a 50-amp full hook-up back-in site but were upgraded to a pull-thru so we could be in a sunny location to mitigate the chilly air. How nice of them! Our site (#79) was perfectly level as were most others (but not all). Water, electric, and cable hook-ups were well placed at the site and worked fine. We paid $37/night(with the KOA member discount). Nice, large grassy area for dogs to walk and sniff and there is a decent size dog park.  Roads and pads are hard packed gravel with grass in between sites. Some sites are set in a wooded area while some are out in the open with plenty of sun and satellite coverage. The park is big rig friendly and the roads are easily navigable. All sites have a picnic table and some had fire pits but ours did not. Cable is included and offered over 50 channels. Wifi worked well at our site.  The laundry was small with three washers and three dryers but very clean and had a decent book exchange. The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently.

The campground is extremely clean and the owners/employees are super friendly. There is a short hiking trail (less than a mile) through the woods and plenty of green space in front of some of the pull-thrus. playground large swimming pool with large deck putt putt with lots of goat humor.

The only downside would be the closeness of sites but that is pretty much what you expect from private RV parks. Fortunately, we did not have neighbors right next to us which gave us more space. I'm usually not a KOA fan but have to say this one was great for our overnight stay and we would recommend it.

    Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort

    convenient to Carowinds, decent campground

Older campground lots of shade.  staff very friendly and helpful. We were really surprised with how much has been invested in Carowinds over the years by Cedar Fair that the campground has been untouched.  Bathrooms/bathhouses were very clean and seem to be the one part of the campground that has been updated.  One section of the campground has been turned into long term camping and many looked like they had been there for years.  campground was quiet other than noise from air traffic as airport is nearby but it was minor.   Campsites have decent space in between each other which is great bc the sites are small in length and you will be parking either beside the rig or sideways in front of it. We stayed in a back-in site and most back-in sites seemed rather level but pull throughs were hit or miss on that aspect.  If you are staying here to go to the park then it is very convenient and has an excellent shuttle that runs frequently and drops you off near the front gate.  Very small camp store that has most of the basics. Campground overall is clean, safe and secure but we expected a little more from theme park campground.  We live nearby and are pass holders at Carowinds so we will likely stay frequently due to the convenience.

    Croft State Park Campground

Shakedown trip with new first camper

Great state park. Easy back in some pull through. Spacious clean sites. Many historic hiking trails easy to mod. Horse trails with stables. Bike trails. Lake Craig is nice fishing with rentable Jon boats, kayaks and SUP. No gas motors or swimming. No pool and dump station only. Playground and clean bathhouses.

    Cunningham RV Park

    Would not stay again

This campground is very close to I-26 and I-81 which makes for an easy in and out for an overnight stay. We stopped for one night after a long day of driving and wanted a full hook-up pull-thru which was long enough for our 45’ RV and tow car. The roads inside the park were easy to navigate and pull into our site and nearby are fuel stations and fast food restaurants.

Most of the campers in the park were permanent residents and their campsites were pretty junky. Just to create an image in your head, our neighbors had lots of kid’s toys, trash bags, appliances, and laundry scattered about their site while others had old cars, dilapidated sheds, car tires, and tarps stretched across their campers. Other than a swimming pool and decent playground, there really aren’t too many amenities or reasons that you might want to stay here, other than for an overnight. The bathroom and showers were clean and there is a nice laundry. Roads in the campground and at sites are gravel with grass/gravel patios and picnic table. Not all sites have fire pits. Our site (#102) did not have a fire pit but there was an indentation under the leaves where it looked like there was a fire pit and there were a bunch of rocks piled up against a tree that could be used to create one without anyone objecting. All sites are full hook-up, some being 30-amp and others 50. Most sites are pull-thrus and level. Our over-the-antenna picked up about 40 television channels, including all the major stations. Our Verizon phone picked up a 5G signal.

There were signs everywhere about not letting your dog off-leash so I’m assuming there was a problem in the past. While we were there, we never encountered any unruly dogs or any off-leash. There are lots of large trees for shade which are not a problem for pulling into or out of a site but may be a problem if you are trying to get satellite television. The sewer outlet at our site was placed in the back of our site and I needed a hose about 35’ long to reach it.  Some of the back-in sites are pretty close but it appeared they were for seasonal/permanent campers.

The electrical hookup was a little sketchy. It appears they updated an old electrical box with a new 50-amp outlet and taped the other one shut so you could not open it. There was no breaker on the new outlet you could access. Despite the way it looked, we never had a problem with the electric.  Our sewer was a different issue.  The sewer drain needed to be cleaned out because when I opened the grey valve it did not drain properly and began to overflow.  I had to shut the valve, wait for the water to go down, and reduce the flow which took about fifteen minutes to drian 25 gallons of grey water.

At $45 for a full hook-up site, we would not stay here again.

    Fireside RV Park

    Clean, quiet and quaint

Stayed here for 5 days visiting family in the area and it was nice. There is no office or showers or anything like that. Spots are fairly close but the people all seemed friendly.

There seemed to be quite a few long term campers but the place was clean.

The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you.

No picnic tables and the WiFi was just useable. I had 2-3 bars of AT&T LTE Wireless signal.

    Woodsmoke Family Campground

    Overnight Stop

Ok for overnight stop but wouldn't be a travel destination. Most sites seem to be long term or permanent sites. Very close to neighbor site, with fire pit being extremely close. Water, Sewer, Power, WiFi

    Chester State Park Campground

    Campsites and views, oh my!

First time staying at Chester State Park. Checked in at the Ranger’s station with friendly staff and a small store front with ice available. Picked pull through site 16. All 25 of the sites are on mostly level ground. The lake from the campground has a fairly new access via a ADA compliant walkway with lighting leading to swings, benches and Adirondack chairs surrounding a rock fire pit. There are benches facing the lake for sitting and or fishing and a new deck that provide even better views of the lake. The trails are well marked and wide that run along the lake edge. There is fishing, kayaks and canoes at the boat dock for rent and to our children’s disappointment no swimming in the lake. The other side of the park has the boat dock, playgrounds for the kiddos and plenty of grassy areas and picnic tables for sitting by the lake. Also there is a professional disc golf course on site. Last but not least the bathhouse is up to date, clean and well stocked.

Guide to Union

RV parks near Union, South Carolina typically operate year-round with most offering full hookup sites. Situated in the Piedmont region at elevations between 500-700 feet, the area experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures and humid summers that average in the upper 80s. Many campgrounds provide 50-amp service to accommodate air conditioning needs during summer months when humidity levels can reach 70-80%.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The Moon Landing Campground provides access to Lake Greenwood, making it a popular destination for anglers. "Good place to relax and enjoy the water," notes Michael Y., though swimming is restricted at this location.

Visit downtown Greer: Just a short drive from many Union area RV parks, Greer offers shopping and dining options. A camper at GSP RV PARK shares that "The park is centrally located near downtown Greer (very cute with lots of shops and restaurants) and a short drive from Greenville and Travelers Rest."

Day trips to Greenville: Several campgrounds serve as convenient bases for exploring the region. Visitors staying at Fireside RV Park mention "The main city Greenville isn't very far and it's a very nice downtown area."

What campers like

Well-maintained grounds: Many campgrounds prioritize landscape upkeep. One camper at Fireside RV Park noted, "The campsite is very well maintained. You often see the owner themselves doing a lot of the maintenance. Plus they check on people, see if everything is going good."

Friendly atmosphere: Despite closer site spacing at some parks, the community atmosphere receives positive mentions. A reviewer at Yates RV Resort appreciated the personalized service: "Kim was fantastic at helping us with arriving early due to hurricane Ian and Mike was on site with a rain coat when we did finally show up! That's just amazing compassion that you might not get elsewhere larger."

Green space between sites: Unlike gravel-only campgrounds, some RV parks feature grassy areas. Vance S. appreciated that at Fireside RV Park, "The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you."

What you should know

Long-term residents: Many RV parks in the Union area serve primarily as extended-stay accommodations. A reviewer at Crown Cove RV Park points out it's "Great for long term camp sites!" while another mentions some campgrounds "seems to cater to long term residents."

Limited amenities at some parks: Facilities vary significantly between locations. A Fireside RV Park reviewer explains, "The campsite only has laundry service, no additional bathrooms or showers. The Wi-Fi is ok, but it drops out a lot."

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds have nearby transportation infrastructure. A visitor at Springwood RV Park described, "I've never stayed in an RV park next to a small airport with a train track running through the middle of the park! Fell asleep to the soothing sounds of a locomotive horn punctuated by the plinks of acorns bouncing off the roof."

Tips for camping with families

Check playground availability: Only select RV parks near Union offer dedicated children's play areas. Cunningham RV Park provides a "decent playground" according to reviewers, making it more suitable for families with young children.

Ask about fishing rules: While several parks advertise fishing access, regulations vary. At Moon Landing Campground, a reviewer noted "No fishing and no swimming," suggesting families check specific activity policies before arrival.

Consider noise sensitivity: For light sleepers or families with young children, inquire about potential noise sources. Some campgrounds have trains or highways nearby, with one camper mentioning "Awakened at 5:30 AM by sirens tuned to major thirds followed a little later by the thumping sounds of helicopter blades."

Tips from RVers

Sewer connection placement: Position can vary at Union area campgrounds. A visitor noted at one location: "The sewer outlet at our site was placed in the back of our site and I needed a hose about 35' long to reach it."

Wi-Fi reliability: Connection quality varies significantly between parks. At Springwood RV Park, campers report adequate Wi-Fi, while others mention "The Wi-Fi is ok, but it drops out a lot" at different locations.

Level sites: Site grading differs between parks. Brittany V. appreciated the "level sites" at Yates RV Resort, while another camper mentioned being "on a hill side which made using our full hookups going up hill" at a different facility.
