Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

    Awesome for dogs and people!

We camped here back in August and had a blast! We brought our two dogs and they also had a great time. This site is very dog friendly (obviously), with many sites having their own fenced in yards. We opted for a site without a fence, which we regretted once we got there. The gravel at our site was painful for our dog’s feet and they had a hard time walking on it. The dog parks made up for this! There are multiple large dog parks located at the campground. The restrooms were awesome, but are single person use only. We felt like we were the only ones using them (that’s how well maintained they were). Campsites are close together but we didn’t mind. The staff was great, they helped us find our site and even helped us back our camper in. There was power and water hookup at each site. There is tons of stuff to do around the area too. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are right around the corner and SO FUN.

    Bent River Equestrian

Great camping near mountain biking and hiking

Great place to spend a couple of nights. Went over Labor Day weekend with 5 or 6 other groups and still felt like we had full privacy. Fire pits, an outdoor shower, and a porta-potty. Cute horses and barn cats to pet and watch

    Travelers Rest-North Greenville KOA

    Ranger Review: Travelers Rest KOA

Very pretty campground in the fall. Operators live onsite and were friendly. Full connections and no issues leveling. Easy in/out and close to Greenville, Paris Mountain, Travelers Rest, Swamp Rabbit Trail etc. Bathhouses were very clean, but the lights are on motion detectors which weren’t sensitive enough to pick you up in the shower. We both had a couple moments of total darkness to contend with. A camp cat hung around our site at times and loved the heat coming out of our furnace. We don’t have pets so didn’t mind. Cell coverage was great (att & Verizon), so we had no issues working our 9-5s. Love the bubbling creek next to our site, which was so pretty from our back window. We’d definitely stay again.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

Amazing Campground for Pups and Adults

We visited this park a few weeks ago and wished we could have stayed longer! It's a well-kept, clean park within approximately half an hour from Lake Lure (where Dirty Dancing was filmed). It is an adult only campground that is dog-centric... For us the best of both worlds! Includes several dog parks for large and small breads, and a pond in which the pups can swim and splash around. We've never been to a park like this one and highly recommend it if you can get in. We'll be back for sure!

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

    Glamping with your pups

This place was a 13 hour drive and so worth it. All of the cabins and trailers available to rent are so reasonably priced and have AC and fully fucntioning appliances. Every cabin or RV rental has its own private gated yard with your own firepit. Several dog parks and a private pond for the pups means days of fun for an active, social dog. Everyone is so kind, the women who run this place are so sweet and they were incredibly accomodating. The camp store has tons of treats and necessities for dogs and people, and a dog washing station and laundry are available communally. We spent our days hiking the nearby Chimney Rock and hanging around Lake Lure (FYI Dirty Dancing was filmed here whoa). We also checked out the Equestrian center which was an awesome recommendation of the staff and also dog friendly. Definitely recommended for people who like day hikes and adventures and coming back to a cozy camp cabin.

    GSP RV PARK

    Nice park, nice people

This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights. We had a change of plans the morning of checkout, and they let us check out a little late since the park wasn’t fully booked, which was so helpful and kind of them. The park is centrally located near downtown Greer (very cute with lots of shops and restaurants) and a short drive from Greenville and Travelers Rest. We will definitely be back while passing through this area next time!

The region transitions between piedmont terrain and the beginnings of the Blue Ridge foothills.

What to do

Mountain biking opportunities: Paris Mountain State Park provides technical trails specifically designated for mountain biking on weekends. "There's mountain biking trails also on the weekend," confirms a reviewer at Paris Mountain State Park Campground.

Fishing in small lakes: Anglers can access several fishing spots within 30 minutes of Simpsonville. "Great hiking trails and easy access campsites. Mountain lake was a little small for kayaking, but we had fun," mentions a reviewer about Paris Mountain's lakes.

Visit Greenville downtown: Located just 15 minutes from Simpsonville, Greenville offers an urban excursion option. "This is a beautiful park, with lots to do, and in close proximity to the endless supply of activities that can be found in the Greenville area," notes a camper who stayed at Table Rock State Park Campground.

Highland cow interactions: For a unique animal experience, WyldStay Greenville offers encounters with Scottish Highland cattle. "We arrived and immediately met Pebbles (My wife's favorite of the Highland cows). She was the sweetest cow and allowed us to pet, take pictures with her and of course feed her," explains a visitor.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained bathhouses: Campers consistently mention the cleanliness of facilities at area campgrounds. "This was a wonderful campground. Very nice management. Beautiful restrooms kept clean and had a combination lock on them," shares a visitor to Pine Ridge Campground.

Quiet camping environments: Many campers appreciate the peaceful settings. "We stayed here for a week and found this to be one of the quietest parks we have stayed out and used it for a base camp to hike Jones gap and table rock," reports a camper at Paris Mountain.

Helpful campground staff: Several reviewers mention exceptional service. "We are 5 weeks into full time and it's been a little rough. The owners here took us under their wings and helped whenever needed," writes a camper about Pine Ridge Campground.

Grassy RV sites: Some RV parks offer grass instead of gravel between sites. "The grass is very nice instead of dirt or gravel pad next to you," notes a camper who stayed at Fireside RV Park, appreciating the more comfortable surface.

What you should know

Uneven campsites at some parks: Many campsites in mountainous areas require leveling. "Liked the campground. No amenities per day except bathroom/showers. Nice large sites but very unlevel due to mountain side. Would not stay again because we were so unlevel our refrigerator wouldn't work," cautions a Paris Mountain visitor.

Limited tent-only sites: Tent campers should reserve early as dedicated tent sites can be limited. "The price of primitive camping. Youd think it be closer to the lake. Not many sites for tents. About 50 for RVs. But tents like only 8," mentions a visitor to Croft State Park Campground.

Airport and train noise: Some RV parks experience transportation noise. "Precious! I've never stayed in an RV park next to a small airport with a train track running through the middle of the park! Fell asleep to the soothing sounds of a locomotive horn punctuated by the plinks of acorns bouncing off the roof," reports a Springwood RV Park visitor.

Access challenges for larger rigs: Some park roads can be difficult to navigate. "The road through the park back to the campground is pretty narrow at some points - we don't know how we would have managed if we had met another RV!" shares a Paris Mountain camper with a 31-foot Class A motorhome.

Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with recreational amenities: "This campground was recommended to me by a friend. This place is so cute! There is an acre of catch and release pond, a playground and jump pad for kids, a pool, some trails, several things to do," writes a camper about Pine Ridge Campground.

Consider pet-friendly hiking alternatives: Families with dogs have options beyond standard campgrounds. "Paris mountain is a personal favorite of mine and take any chance to go. This is a great dog friendly park with clean trails, plenty of parking, and friendly staff."

Plan for weather-appropriate activities: The region's climate makes outdoor activities feasible year-round. "Now is the time to go as it is less crowded and the leaves are changing color," suggests a fall visitor to Paris Mountain.

Check campground event schedules: Some campgrounds offer special activities. "Add on all the activities they plan for big holiday weekends and this place is a no brainer," shares a camper about Golden Grove Farm and Brew, which also features live music events.

Tips from RVers

Verify site levelness before booking: RVers emphasize checking site conditions. "Some of the sites needed a little rehab and weren't very flat," notes a Paris Mountain camper, while another adds: "Our pull through site was located under an old oak tree, conveniently next to the laundromat."

Consider full-service RV parks for extended stays: Long-term campers appreciate dedicated RV facilities. "This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights," shares a visitor to GSP RV Park.

Research cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity: Internet access varies significantly. "The Wi-Fi is ok, but it drops out a lot," mentions a Fireside RV Park camper, while another notes: "I had 2-3 bars of AT&T LTE Wireless signal."
