I probably could have been carried away by some of the horseflies I saw," noted one visitor to a nearby state park. Most campgrounds maintain well-kept facilities despite these seasonal challenges. Road conditions vary considerably, with some parks requiring navigation of rough access roads. Cell service can be limited at more remote locations, particularly at wildlife refuges and state forests. Lakes and ponds feature prominently in visitor reviews, with many campers highlighting water activities as essential to their experience. "While there are a few hiking trails, if you don't have a boat or canoe you will be missing out on most of the appeal," observed one camper at Lake Wateree State Park. Shaded campsites provide relief from summer heat, with many reviewers noting the quality of tree cover at state park campgrounds. Bathroom facilities receive consistently positive mentions for cleanliness, particularly at Poinsett and Cheraw State Parks. Travelers seeking convenience appreciate the proximity of Florence RV Park and Pedro's Campground to I-95, though highway noise can be a drawback at these locations.

      LumberJack RV Park

      Top Notch RV Park

You cannot go wrong staying here! Great prices and excellent service!! We arrived right before dark, my husband turned off the truck and when he went to start it again, it would not start. The starter had went out in his truck, and we were still hooked to the camper, partially blocking the road in the RV park. The owners did not have a problem with our truck staying in the road through the night, and they were so helpful, and even took my husband to the auto parts store at 7:30 the next morning to get a new starter. Along with the owners, others staying in this campground was super friendly, and offering their help. This is our second stay in this RV park, and definitely won't be our last!

      Lynches River County Park

      Clean quiet and spacious

I was impressed by the cleanliness and the amenities available at this campground. There’s a dog park, splash pad and climbing wall(hours depend on the time of year) There are also walking trails and a way to access the water.

Lots of room at the site so even if it was busy, still wouldn’t be too close to neighbors!

Pedro's Campground at South of the Border

      Great Stop!

This well known roadside attraction, South of the Border, has a hidden gem of a campground! They have a lot of sites, from back-ins to pull-throughs, full hook-ups, nightly rates from about $49 including tax (with discounts, and they offer a few). Nice sites with picnic tables and grills, we saw three bathhouses (clean!), and a coin-operated laundry. Entire campground is gated with security, and there are restaurants, shops, and gas stations. Quiet, fun, just off I-95 at the SC/NC border.

      Lake Wateree State Park Campground

      Awesome!

The park is impeccable! This has set a new standard and all future state campgrounds across the USA will be compared to here. The bathrooms as well as the entire is exceptionally clean. Playgrounds and soccer field (soccer balls provided) Hiking/biking trails. Our camp hosts Kermit and Anita were phenomenal. If I had find one negative it would be the state is really proud of their firewood, I thought it was overpriced especially since I’m from out of state and was at their mercy.

Standing Pines RV Resort & Campground

Peaceful, clean, and super friendly new RV park (Free WiFi)

We stayed at Standing Pines RV Park in Hartsville, South Carolina and were really impressed. This is a newer park, but you can tell the owners put a lot of care into the property. The grounds are clean, quiet, and surrounded by tall trees, which creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere while still being close to town. The sites are level, spacious, and easy to back into. Full hookups worked perfectly. Cell service was strong enough for remote work and streaming. The park roads are wide and well maintained, which makes everything simple when arriving or setting up. The overall vibe is calm, safe, and welcoming. The owners are helpful and available without being intrusive. It already feels like a comfortable home base and it is clear the park is being built the right way. If you are passing through Hartsville, working in the area, or looking for a quiet place to stay for a while, Standing Pines RV Park is a great choice. Very clean, very relaxing, and we will definitely return.

Camping sites near Hartsville, South Carolina range from basic primitive areas to full-service campgrounds with varied seasonal access patterns. Located in the Carolina Sandhills region, the area's sandy soil and pine forests create distinctive camping conditions with temperatures often reaching the 90s during summer months. Specific insect considerations and water recreation options significantly affect the camping experience throughout the region's diverse state forests and wildlife areas.

    What to do

Fishing at multiple ponds: Sugarloaf Mountain in Sand Hills State Forest provides access to fishing ponds in a quiet setting. "This is a great place for quiet, no frills camping. There are 7 camping areas, 5 of which have camping shelters. Sites 3 & 4 only have picnic tables and trash barrels," notes a visitor.

Horse and dog training observation: Watch retriever training and equestrian activities at specialized recreation areas. A visitor to H. Cooper Black Jr. Field Trial Area describes the unique opportunity: "Neat surprise. Pleasant primitive site now, overlooking ponds, meadows, forest. Fun to distantly observe horses and well trained retrievers playing and being trained."

Stargazing without light pollution: Take advantage of dark skies in more remote camping areas. "Far away from city lights so great for stargazing," mentions a camper about Sugarloaf Mountain's opportunities for night sky viewing.
