Best RV Parks & Resorts near Aiken, SC

Aiken RV Park provides full hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections for motorhomes and travel trailers. Located on Columbia Highway North, this established campground features level gravel sites with picnic tables and trash service. Barnyard RV Park in nearby Lexington offers similar amenities with large pull-through sites suitable for big rigs, while Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park in Jackson caters specifically to RV travelers with year-round availability. Most parks in the region maintain gravel pads with limited spacing between neighboring sites. "Located behind the flea market, Barnyard has dirt sites with lots of water flowing through during rainy weather, but the large pull-through sites have water, electric, and sewer connections that work well," noted one camper.

Several RV parks near Aiken operate throughout all seasons, though summer months typically see higher occupancy rates. Cell service varies considerably between locations, with some parks offering reliable WiFi connections while others have limited connectivity. Access roads to most campgrounds accommodate large motorhomes, though some parks have narrow interior roads that require careful navigation. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though Heritage RV Park in Augusta lacks restrooms and laundry facilities. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions. During Masters Tournament weeks in nearby Augusta, advance reservations become essential as RV sites throughout the region fill quickly. One reviewer mentioned that Pine Acres Campground "allows alcohol and has 50-amp hookups, but is not big-rig friendly," highlighting the importance of confirming specific amenities before arrival.

    Mistletoe State Park Campground

Gorgeous and Tranquil in the Woods

This place was so perfect and our first camping experience with our new 40 foot RV! Check-in was easy and they even let us change to a pull-through site last minute. The grounds were sooooo gorgeous! Trees everywhere. Walking trails. And of course the lake. We went during fall colors so it was really magical.

PROS: Clean restrooms, spacious RV sites (they felt very private), many bathhouses within walking distance, friendly staff, nice gift shop

CONS: wet firewood and of course you had to buy from them, playground very small- made more for toddlers/preschool age, less than 5 years old, long walk to the dumpsters

Petersburg - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Beautiful campsites

This campground has magnificent views, spacious sites, picnic tables, firepits, power (30 and 50 amp) and water hookups, dump station, bathrooms, and groomed swimming area.

The site (21) was very easy to pull through and had a wonderful view of the lake. I had to try to see my neighbors at the next site because the foliage separated the sites well. I saw a grounds person actively maintaining the empty sites which explains how well kept this campground is. The access roads are well kept.

Winfield - J Strom Thurmond Lake

    Very nice place !

This place has some great sites. Our site was #25. It was a pull through with 30 and 50 amp plugs. It’s a level lot with a grill, fire ring, picnic table and another small table. It’s right on the lake. There is a retaining wall at the water so it’s about a 3” step to the water. We plan to bring a sep ladder next time. Beautiful place to spend your time camping.

    Hamilton Branch State Park Campground

Great spacious site on the water, lots of privacy

We arrived at last light, and I am glad that we had daylight while we backed in. Lovely site, spacious. Sites 98 & 99  T off the connector road. Layout it such that your RV is parallel to the road, overlooking the water which is 80- 100 feet away. Your neighbors are a fair distance away, but your head and tail of the RV points to them- so once inside you're not even aware of them. We are 30 foot fifth wheel with F250, and i imagine the back-in would have been more challenging if 99 was occupied.  Nice family oriented park. Water and electric all good, dump station on way out.

Did not use facilities, but apparently showers and toilets are a little drive away.

Wood: We drove out of the park, turned left and found an honor-system wood kiosk on parallel road - just over the railroad tracks. $5 for a small bundle, but it was worth it to us.

    Leveling was not an issue.

Hosts keep site nice and clean,

Data: Visible worked great (25 mbs up & down, so no need to break out hotspots, Starlink etc

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Canoeing Getaway

It is a very small campground. Narrow winding dirt road to small campsites. Bathhouse in the center. Check out the site pictures on their website, they are accurate. We only have a 17 foot camper and it still felt small. We stayed on site 16 which was nice and quiet. Site 18 would have been easier to back in to with the same amount of privacy. We got there early and were able to go right to our site. There were only 4 other campers there and the hosts. The bathhouse was older and could have been cleaner but it was okay. Most importantly it was warm. Our first night it got down to 27 and the water at the hose bib froze but once the sun came up it was fine. Less than 30 minutes to downtown Aiken. We loved the town and it was very pet friendly. Hopelands Gardens was beautiful, free and pet friendly. Had some good beer at Aiken Brewing Company and enjoyed all the shops downtown. We did go into Augusta and that was another 30 minutes from downtown Aiken. We will definitely go back in the warmer months to see some steeplechase horse racing and training, canoe and kayak the Edisto River and go hiking in Hitchcock Woods. There are quite a few museums we did not get to that would be nice to visit as well. I would definitely go back.

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Boss RV Park

    A very nice campground

The sites are mostly gravel with areas of dirt, but mine was level. I was near the bath house and laundry which were both clean and well maintained. The population looks like a mix of mostly long-term residents, with a few mid to short-term. It is a full hookup facility, and all my connections worked well.

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Amazing Find!

We stayed over on our way to Charleston, SC. We booked it online. We had no hookeups, but water and a dump station is available. There are hiking trails, canoeing, and fishing. The ranger was super friendly and they are pet friendly. We had to switch sites when we arrived due to a space issue. We have a 32’ RV and the site stated a max of 35’ but there was a tent pad that would have interfered with us being level. We were allowed to switch with no issues.

Guide to Aiken

Camping areas near Aiken, South Carolina offer options along the Savannah River basin at elevations between 200-500 feet. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters where overnight temperatures rarely drop below freezing. Many campgrounds feature gravel sites with limited shade, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Pointes West Army Resort provides access to Clarks Hill Lake for anglers. "My wife and I have stayed here three times in both early spring and mid-autumn. Two of those times we had the place to ourselves. Sites L, M, and N are all on a little peninsula that sticks out into Clarks Hill Lake," reports Jason L.

Water recreation: Campers at Plum Branch RV Park can enjoy water activities on Lake Thurmond. The park is "very quiet and right near the water," according to one camper, with a restaurant just a few hundred yards down the road.

Explore Augusta: Heritage RV Park provides a convenient base for Augusta attractions. "There is a nice walking path by the canal downtown where you may see some urban wildlife. Would highly recommend visiting the U.S Army Signal Corps Museum at Fort Gordon and the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area Interpretive Center downtown. We also did a narrated canal boat tour which was very informative," shares Nancy W.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Big Rig Friendly RV Resort receives praise for its well-maintained amenities. "This place was well thought out when it was being built, lots of space, great level sites, nice dog park. Fitness center and laundry are new and nice," notes Nicole C.

Friendly management: Sandy Oak RV Park stands out for its hospitality. "We called with very short notice looking for an overnight site. Though the campground was booked, the owners so graciously allowed us to park in the overflow parking which included water & electric. We even arrived at 10pm, and they were waiting at the gate for us!" says Nick & Allyssa S.

Spacious sites: Several rv sites near Aiken, South Carolina offer ample room for larger rigs. One camper at Barnyard RV Park appreciates that "sites are big enough for most RVs. Mostly level, Some have cement pads. 30/50 amp, full hookups. Some Shade."

What you should know

Crowding during events: During holiday weekends, rv camping near Aiken can become busy. At Pointes West, Bobby J. notes, "We decided to camp out for the 4th instead of going to watch fire works. Camp grounds weren't too terribly over crowded when we arrived. However, throughout the day people showed up by the carloads to just hang out and party."

Weather considerations: Heavy rain affects some campgrounds significantly. Kevin H. at Plum Branch RV Park observed his "newish pad was still soft but pretty level" after rain, indicating drainage issues at some parks.

Cell service variations: Internet connectivity differs widely across the region. At Barnyard RV Park, one camper mentioned "Internet was spotty at best," while another praised the location as "great for passing through" despite connectivity challenges.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Sandy Oak RV Park offers family-friendly water recreation. Nick & Allyssa S. plan to "definitely be back to take advantage of the swimming pond, paddle boats, fishing & playground!"

Security considerations: For families with children, consider camping areas with good oversight. At Sandy Oak RV Park, a camper noted they "couldn't ask for better security," making it suitable for families with young children.

Limited amenities at some parks: Heritage RV Park lacks some facilities families might need. Andrew L. observed "There were also no fire pits or communal areas / playgrounds, so it was difficult to keep our toddler entertained. Served its purpose as a one night stay but not great for longer term."

Tips from RVers

Site surface variations: Pine Acres Campground provides rv sites near Aiken with 50-amp service, but one camper cautions about the ground conditions: "There are no trees down there. The current sites are pretty close together. I would not be able to open my awning all the way if I wanted to."

Access road conditions: When traveling with larger rigs, note Plum Branch RV Park's infrastructure details. Kevin H. mentioned, "Electric posts are new but have a meter right below plugs, so surge suppressor gets to hang sideways" and "Sewer pipes stick out a good 6 or 8 inches."

Military discount options: For service members seeking rv camping near Aiken, South Carolina, Pointes West Army Resort offers military-specific camping. "This is a military campground," confirms Rose S., making it a good option for veterans and active-duty personnel traveling through the area.
