RV parks near West Finley include Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, and Zion Retreat & RV Park. The Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA operates from March to December with full hookup sites including 50-amp electrical, water, and sewer connections. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort offers year-round access with big-rig friendly sites and complete hookups. Many RV sites in the area are set on hillsides with varying degrees of levelness. Zion Retreat accommodates RVs with electric, sewer, and water hookups in a more wooded setting. "Many of the sites were not level, not only that but they are narrow and where you sit is a slope making it very uncomfortable," noted one RV traveler about a local campground.

Access to several area RV parks requires careful navigation due to steep terrain. The approach to Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA involves significant hills that can challenge larger rigs, with reviewers recommending following campground signs rather than GPS directions to avoid narrow roads with sharp turns. Seasonal considerations affect amenities, with some parks having limited or no water hookups during colder months. Most RV parks in the region offer sanitary dump stations, trash service, and showers, though cleanliness varies by location. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with designated dog areas at some parks. Cell service is reliable near major highways but may diminish in more remote locations. Campgrounds near interstates provide convenient overnight stops but may experience traffic noise.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

      Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA

      KOA - Monthly Stay

Camping in a 33 ft travel trailer with slides. Verizon service is great. Wifi in extended parking doesn’t work well. The staff are helpful and polite. We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots.

      Fox Den Acres Campground

      Nice family campground

This is a large campground with play grounds, well maintained pool and grounds, fishing, party pavilions, and store. The staff is nice and helpful. It’s very military positive, even includes a reserved place for the fallen soldiers. Some sites are a bit close, the pull through sites are very ample. Gravel roads and level sites. Lots of grass areas for play and walking. I think the weekends would be too full for my taste but mid week was very quiet.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Camping in the trees

Electric Site 37 - pad is pretty level, plenty for our small camper and truck, on a slight hill to get to fire ring but lots of space to spread out. You could tent but not really a flat spot. We were near the non-electric cul de sac and a neighbor right across but not on top of each other. Trees are everywhere and wonderful during the fall season. We had a big night of rain and with the wind it dried up pretty quickly.

Camp store - small, not a lot in it but may be end of the season items only. Mostly shirts and mugs and very little snack food. The camp store staff were all very friendly and helpful and the store has limited WiFi if you stood in the right spot. There is a laundry room available there as well.

Dump station- 2 way and potable water on the other side of it. The only place to drop your trash too.

Trails - lots of trails to choose from. Some were pretty easy some were a little hilly. My favorite was the fern trail - lots of ferns and a very pretty stream. Hiking poles are recommended especially if it rains.

Playground - is available for kids and a huge shelter house too.

Firewood is $6 a bundle and burns well, no slab cut.

Water - have to go up to entrance as the water spouts are still shut off.

Showers - in womens the shower on the left never got warm, other two were fine. There are 4 flush toilets.

Coopers Rock State Forest- McCollum Campground

      Must See Sunsets

This is the largest state forest in West Virginia, it has a total of 25 sites that vary in their privacy. Each site has electrical hookups, picnic tables, fire grates, and utility post. The sites in the middle of the loop lack privacy that the outer loop sites have. There is one bath house that has hot showers, flush toilets, water spigots, and now WIFI. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash. There are gravel pull-ins for the sites, there are a couple of pull through sites for RVs.

The campground gets busy during the fall because it is so close to Morgantown and Mountaineer games. There are lots of hiking trails, coopers rock is definitely a must to see during sunset. Ravens rock is also a beautiful look out trail. Rock climbers have a lot of rock outcroppings on short trails for climbers to utilize. Fishing, biking, and hunting are also popular activities that can be done here.

    Guide to West Finley

RV campgrounds near West Finley, Pennsylvania are situated in the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles from Pittsburgh. The region features elevation changes of 900-1,200 feet, creating challenging terrain for larger vehicles. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing from December through February, with water systems at some campgrounds being winterized during these months.

    What to do

Fishing access: Shadow Lake RV Resort offers several ponds across their 100-acre property where campers can fish. "We see deer almost every evening. There are a couple hiking trails nearby (Piatt Park and Raven's Rock) which have incredible rock formations in the gorges," notes Darla at Shadow Lake RV Resort.

Trail riding: Access to the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail makes The Blue Canoe RV Resort appealing for cyclists. "The GAP trail rolls right through the middle of this traditional KOA campground. The seasonal RVers and weekend warriors have long claimed their sites, but for through riders on the trail there is a special place to camp," reports Shari G. at The Blue Canoe RV Resort.

Swimming: Several campgrounds maintain swimming pools that operate during summer months. "Great: The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service," describes Heath T. about Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort.

    What campers like

Privacy in off-season: Many campgrounds become significantly less crowded during fall months. "We came to Shadow Lake in October to camp for the month. To get here, you must drive through the rolling hills of Southern Ohio, which is absolutely gorgeous in October! The campground is beautiful and peaceful, especially at this time of year as most of the campers have either gone south, closed up or pulled out for the season."

Scenic water views: Waterfront sites are particularly valued at Zion Retreat & RV Park where campers can park directly adjacent to ponds. "Was a great camp, clean and well kept. Had a great spot by the lake right off the back of our camper," according to Robert T.

Winter accommodations: Some RV parks remain operational year-round with staff maintaining facilities even during harsh weather. "I stayed here in the worse month possible for camping in ohio but the owner made it a great experience. They are very accommodating. Even though every thing was snowy and muddy I could tell this is a very well taken care of place," reports Blaine V. about winter camping.

    What you should know

Site levelness challenges: Many campgrounds feature sites cut into hillsides requiring leveling equipment. "Very steep narrow roads to access campground and sites. Sites not level and noisy, next to highway," warns Chris H. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

GPS navigation issues: Several campgrounds recommend following posted signs rather than GPS directions. "Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads," advises Brandy S. at Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

Proximity to highways: While convenient for access, some campgrounds experience traffic noise. "Close to the highway but no road noise. Giant pool opened in the summer," notes Michael and Betty L. about Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, indicating that proximity doesn't always result in disturbance.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Several campgrounds feature swimming pools that operate seasonally, typically from late May through early September. "Wonderful hosts, well maintained, large sites, close to the highway but no road noise. Giant pool opened in the summer. Highly recommended," says Michael and Betty L.

Bathroom considerations: Family-friendly facilities vary considerably between properties. "The bathroom had some newer looking siding & some flowers, but the floor in the women's bathroom had holes in it. It smelled funny in there too," notes Cynthia K. about one campground.

Site selection: Families may prefer locations away from common pathways. "We had people walk through our site on shortcuts to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Like most KOAs, there is little privacy to begin with as sites are right on top of each other," reports Brian R. about his experience.

    Tips from RVers

Hill navigation: RV drivers must prepare for steep terrain at many area campgrounds. "Make sure you have a good tow vehicle as there is a steep hill at the entrance/exit of the camp ground," advises Robert T. from CAMP73ROCKST☆R.

Site width constraints: Many RV sites have limited space between units. "The sites are a bit close, think KOA close. This might be a turnoff if the campground was full," observes Kathryn P. about Zion Retreat.

Overnight convenience: Some campgrounds serve primarily as transit stops. "Safe place to pull over for the night right of interstate," notes Kelly K., indicating the value of easy-access locations for those making longer journeys.
