Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Sumpter, OR

Good stop great facility good dog park 30amp/water…easy on off the freeway. Great town/ location…we’ll worth the stop

Paid $44 for a night with full hookups. We appreciated the friendly staff. Dog Friendly with a 14 acres off-leash dog park! Washrooms were small but very clean. Even though it is 1 minute off the highway it was fairly quiet.

Easy access off of I-84, mostly pull through full hookup sites, nicely landscaped with beautiful views! It has a small fenced-in dog park, pool and spa.

We stayed here just overnight. We used the showers and laundry --both were very clean. Courteous, helpful staff. It looked like about half of the tenants are permanent.

The dog park on the back forty was seriously about 40 acres.

I wish we had more time at this spot. Beautiful scenery. Small but very clean pool. The campgrounds are very well taken care of. Pet friendly, family friendly.

They have an amazing brand new reception, very nice people. These are the cleanest restrooms I’ve ever seen, and we camp a lot! Wifi is okay. Only giving 4 stars because they could add some kids recreation. Other than that, 10/10. Pets cannot be off leash. The pool is mor of a big hot tub, not for actual swimming

May 17-26, 2019 Very nice campground. Site C6 walk-up site had electric and water. Park has dump station, Restrooms had flush toilets but no hot water and no showers. Elevation 4,097. Verizon had 2 bars 4G.  Address: 17564 Sumpter Stage Highway, Baker City Oregon 97814. Hike 16 mile trail around the lake. Legally sale cannibus in Sumpter - 10 miles from the park. Enjoyed D&J Taco Shop restaurant downtown. No sales tax in Oregon.

Dry camping with a put toilet, very clean. The camping sites were pretty level. Site 11 we feel was the best. Baker city was just about 20 minutes away along with the old gold mining town of Sumpter about 10 minutes away

This quite little gem of a camp ground is our favorite spot to get away for a weekend or longer. Beautiful old growth trees, with a stream running through it. Close to Sumpter if you forgot something, or there is always some street activity or flea market happening.

We went late in the year and it was very quiet. Clean, low traffic. Based on size of day use area it looks like the lake is probably busy during the summer. Nearby Sumpter is a neat little town with lots of history. Be sure to tour the Dredge.

Just arrived today. I’ll update after our full stay. Come here to explore Sumpter and the mines. Dispersed but tables and fire rings. Some pull throughs. No hookups or trash service. Beautiful setting. 3 bars AT&T.

Sites are not level. Large rigs will be fine, ours is 30’ TT

After stay review. Had a great time. Cranes were hanging at the lake, two Bald Eagles were close by. Great location with a lot to explore.

Great stop over RV Park in the mountains between Idaho and Oregon in Baker City oregon. Full hookups pull throughs a small shop and a great little town. Well managed and clean. Large dog run. Great views.

We stayed at The Gold Rush RV park in Sumpter, OR for one week. We absolutely loved our stay. The park was clean, and the restrooms/laundry room was spotless. We really enjoyed exploring the area in the evenings. We were at site 15 on the top of the hill that overlooked the road and the mountains. In our opinion, it is the best spot in the park. The couple that owns the park lives on-site and takes very good care of their park.  We will be back for sure. If you need anything, be sure to let them know, they are very helpful.

We chose Dixie because it was a little closer to civilization than Yellow Pine, Wetmore & Oregon campgrounds further east on Hwy 26. There is no host, it’s at a higher elevation and it is a little off the highway. The loop is kind of on two levels so some spaces are well spaced out. Vault toilets distributed around the loop. The one we used was clean and supplied. There were only 2-3 other sites occupied and no one near us when we stayed. No reservations. We chose a site that sat a bit downhill from where our car was parked but was a really lovely spot. We didn’t mind hauling our stuff down. The wind picked up the first afternoon we were there and we actually saw a tree fall in the distance which was a little disconcerting. Just be aware of where you place your tent and the trees around you. Absolutely beautiful area with wild strawberries and blueberries and salmon berries, currants and more. Loved the peace and tranquillity of this campground but close enough to Prairie City which is where we got firewood (from Mountain View mini mart, no wood at Huffman’s Market & no wood at Austin House market at the top of the pass). We visited the little Sumpter Railroad interpretive site and Bates State Park both great for walking around with kids. Would definitely come back and do more hiking in the Blue Mountains.

First, the office staff was stellar! Very friendly & helpful! The park & bath house are tidy & clean. Appreciate that dog poop bags are conveniently located, and wide grassy strips around the perimeter provide places for potty walks (unlike some RV parks where the only grass is at campsites). Great big kudos to other dog owners for cleaning up after their dogs, too! However, for the price, we were not impressed with the rest of the park. Only 2 showers in each restroom with a cramped, shared dressing space. We also were disappointed with the soaking pools, which were small for this size park. Even tho a huge grassy area at one end of the park could be a lovely off-lead dog area, sadly it is not, and dogs are not allowed off-lead anywhere. For those of us with active/young dogs, a safe place for them to RUN, jump, play, & expend energy after a travel day is hugely appreciated.

Older campground with several forested spots along a muddy creek. Nice dog walking and biking forest roads directly off campground. Pit toilets, non potable water source, fire pits.

Usually we stop here for one to three nights when passing through the area. The hot springs are great and lots of room for the dogs. Only downside is there is no off leash area for our pups.
