Best RV Parks & Resorts near Heppner, OR

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks and campgrounds surround the Heppner area, offering varying levels of amenities and site configurations. Umatilla Marina RV Park provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections approximately 45 miles north of Heppner along the Columbia River. "Clean and quiet," noted one camper about the Umatilla facility, which features level gravel sites and well-maintained grounds. Pilot RV Park in Stanfield accommodates big rigs with pull-through sites and full hookups, while Wheeler County Fairgrounds RV Park offers electric, water, and sewer hookups in Fossil. Most parks maintain year-round operation with sites spaced to accommodate slideouts, though spacing between units varies considerably.

Access to dump stations is available at most developed RV parks in the region, with some requiring additional fees for non-guests. Cell service varies significantly across the area, with stronger signals near larger towns and spotty coverage in more remote locations. Many parks allow pets but enforce leash requirements and designated pet areas. During hunting seasons, particularly in fall, occupancy rates increase substantially at parks near Heppner. A review mentioned that Bear Hollow County Park has "hard to find level spots for RVs" but provides clean facilities. Travelers should note that some campgrounds like Hat Rock have converted to long-term rentals only, eliminating overnight camping options, according to recent visitor reports.

    Boardman Marina Park

    Beautiful spot on the Columbia

Campsites are large. And level. There’s lots of grass picnic tables fire pit. there’s a walking trail along the river and it’s close to town. There are clean restrooms with free showers and paid laundry facility. Seems to work pretty well.

    Lane Creek

    Small but great for hunting

Lane Creek campground is in the Umatilla Forest off Hwy 244 (Between HWY 395 & I-84). Between milepost 10 & 12. It has 7 camp sites with vaulted toilet. No water or garabage, but have picnic table and fire ring, with level gravel site for trailers (can pitch a tent). One out of the 7 sites can hold a large RV of 35ft. Town of Ukiah is west about 8 miles and has a dump station for RV at a park in middle of town off HWY 244. Great Elk hunting area lots of forest road to drive around.

    Bear Hollow County Park

    Meh

We were the only ones camping here for a night in October 2020. Sites are OK, some pull-throughs, some tent sites, too. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table. Pit toilets were dirty. Good location outside Fossil but kind of expensive at $20 for no hookups and dirty toilets, plus it’s right next to road so there’s some road noise.

    Boardman Marina Park

Lovely spot right on the river

I enjoyed my night at this campground. The spots by the river offer lovely views. Those in the interior, not so much. There were many large rigs here. The walking/running trail at the back of the campground is in good condition and meanders along for 3 miles, 1.5 in either direction from the campground. The bathrooms are clean, warm, showers are hot. Mirrors and an electric outlet let you use your hairdryer in the spacious bathroom. I hooked up to 30 amps and it worked great. Water was off during my stay. There is okay wifi, better than I expected, but a little slow. I checked in using pay by envelope after consulting the board at the entrance for available spots. Grocery, gas, a brewery and a cafe were nearby. I stayed in winter, but a nice beach is right next door. There is a playground in the center of the camp and a huge frisbee golf course off the trail. Kids will enjoy the woodsy areas off the hiking path.

Quiet, scenic with the romantic sound of trains passing through in the night. I highly recommend.

    Crow Butte Park

Good Public Campground on the Columnbia River

Just off Washington SR 14, on an island in the Columbia River, connected by a short causeway to the mainland.  The campsites lie on the landward side of a sandy butte that dominates the small island.  Trails over and around the butte (no rattlesnakes seen, though signs warned about them) provide great vistas of the Columbia River. Campsites are well-spaced (both back-in and pull-through), with electric and non-electric options. Reasonable cost for a full hookup at $40/night.  Showers said to be available, but we didn't use or see them.  As others have mentioned, the campground can be windy, although the higher numbered sites, roughly 32-50 (toward the butte, away from the mainland) tend to be calmer.

Lone Tree Campground — Cottonwood Canyon State Park

    Quiet, serene, oasis

This beautiful campground was loaded with amenities. The gorgeous John Day River, was perfect for fishing, swimming, floating. There was several trails within the campground as well as trailheads around the perimeter. We brought our own bikes but if you don’t bring yours, they offered loaner bikes and there were little bike workstations on the grounds. Pet friendly! Including a fenced in dog area (about an acre) and doggie poo bags readily available. We have a truck with camper but the tent sites each had a solar panel to provide electricity for charging the essentials. The grounds must have been a farm originally and the campground designers did an awesome job of using the existing structures to add to the rustic nature and maintain the land’s historic relevance. Cottonwood Canyon surpassed our expectations, especially considering the very low price tag. I cannot recommend highly enough.
