Ukiah-Dale Forest State Scenic Corridor

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sitting alongside Highway 395 near Ukiah-Dale Forest State Park and Campground, this Oregon State Parks campground doubles as a public restroom rest stop, which brings occasional drive-through traffic from passing motorists. The roughly 27-site layout runs along Camas Creek, and several sites sit close enough to the water that campers can hear and access the stream directly. Sites are well-spaced from each other and come with water and wastewater connections; a small number of sites also have electrical capability. RVs up to 40 feet can be accommodated.

The campground sits within a forested corridor in the Blue Mountains, with fir trees providing shade, particularly at the road-adjacent sites, which reviewers note tend to be the largest and shadiest. The bathrooms include automatic lighting and electrical outlets and have drawn consistent praise for cleanliness across multiple visits. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. Bear and cougar warning signs are posted, standard for this part of eastern Oregon. Hornets and black jackets have been reported during summer months.

Pricing has shifted over time. One reviewer noted paying $22 per night for a no-hookup site in 2025, up from the $10 listed online, so confirming current rates before arrival is worth the effort. The campground runs mid-April through mid-October. Ukiah, a short drive east, has very limited resupply options, so arriving with a full tank and all supplies already loaded is the practical approach. Campers wanting more options in the region can browse campgrounds around Ukiah-Dale Forest State Scenic Corridor, or consider Drift Fence as an alternative further into the Blue Mountains.

Pretty quiet place to be

This is a typical roadside campground.  It not only is a campground but a bathroom rest stop on Hwy 395, so there is a small amount of drive through traffic to the restrooms.

Sites at well set with water and waste water features.  I did see a couple electrical capable sites but I am self contained.  The stream going by has a decent flow but it is mid summer and slowing down.  I did not have a mosquito problem but black jackets and hornets were present.  Found no rattlesnakes, there is a bear a cougar warning sign posted but that the normal for the Blue Mountains.

Overall a nice little wayside.  I checked online and it said $10.00 per night for no hookup sites, but the price was $22.00 per night when I got there.  I spoke to a Ranger and was advised the $22 was being increase by $12 dollars next year and then another increase above that is being touted by the socialists in Salem. That would bring the site fee for no hookup camping to around $50 to $60 a night.  You might as well go to a motel and save the headache.

Overall I had planned on staying six nights, but i paid for three and that was my budget.

Beautiful campground

I camped here during the summer season of 2023. When I pulled into the campground it was just me and the camp hosts. They gave me the pick of what site I wanted. I swooped on one next to the river. The campground was beautiful and sites were good distances from each other. There are bathrooms and areas to top off your water. I choose this campground due to driving the 395 as my choice of route to explore. I would 100% recommend this campsite again.

Quaint despite being on the road

Simple but very cute CG. Good sized sites, clean bathrooms right on little river currently damned by a local beaver and therefore good for a dip. Beautiful area with lots of options. The sites by the road are actually best IMHO because they are biggest and offer the best shade. Current cosmetic upgrades underway and will make it even better. A gem.

Excellent camping near Camas Creek

This is a small, dry campground that is as good as it gets. Only bummer for me (having dogs) is that there aren't any trails. I did read about a place called Potamus Point overlooking the John Day River and canyon that the State Parks Byways brochure said was only a 30 minute excursion off FR-53. Well, 16 miles on gravel roads and an hour and a half driving and I still wasn't there and it was getting dark. Never did see it…..:( Ukiah is nearby, but has very minimal supplies. If you head into these areas have water, a full tank of gas and all your supplies already on board.

Ukiah-Dale Forest State Scenic Corridor Campground

Quiet 27 spot state campground. No hookups, but the bathroom has automatic lights and electric outlets and is kept very clean. $10 a night self pay. You can buy a small cart of firewood for $5. We had the place to ourselves in early May. Right on Camas Creek. Lovely.
