Timber Butte Cabin provides a secluded forest experience, while Dexter Shores RV Park offers cabin rentals with access to drinking water, showers, and toilets. The Willamettans features cabins with electric hookups, water, and sewer connections. Most locations include fire pits and picnic tables for outdoor meals. Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Musick Guard Station offers a historic cabin experience in a remote setting with vault toilets but no electricity or running water. Clark Creek Organization Campground provides basic cabins with toilets and drinking water available seasonally from May to September. Cooking facilities vary significantly between locations—some offer only outdoor fire pits while others provide more complete kitchens. There is a vault toilet outside." Cell service is limited at many cabin locations, particularly those deeper in forested areas.

    Umpqua's Last Resort & Oregon Mountain Guides

    An adventure and accommodation for everyone!

    General: Located just across the street from the North Umpqua River, there is a mix of:•

    * petite RV sites (RVs up to 20’ with FHU 20-30 amp- 3)

    * deluxe RV sites (RVs up to 29’ with FHU 30-50 amp- 5)

    * Super RV sites (RVs up to 60’ with FHU 50 amp- 7)

    * glamping tents (7)

    * cabins with heat and A/C(4)

    * a cottage

    * a tiny home

    * camper

    * retro bunkhouse

    * retro RV

    Site Quality: We were in a deluxe RV site that had a level gravel camper pad, electric hookup, fire ring, and picnic table. Unlike most RV parks, there was a decent amount of foliage between most sites to provide a measure of privacy.

    Bath/Shower House: Two toilets, two sinks, and two showers. Clean but limited privacy for the toilets with just a curtain. Bench and hooks are outside of showers with no other separation so there is a lack of privacy there as well (did not use the shower so I cannot comment on how well it worked, although they looked nice).

    Activities/Amenities:

    * Guided and Self-guided hiking tours

    * Guided and self-guided mountain bike tours

    * a full-day waterfall tour ($75 pp, with 24-hour advance notice)

    * whitewater rafting tours

    * Stream and river fishing holes

    * Fly fishing and hunting

    * Kayak rentals on Toketee Lake (We had hoped to do this, but the weather had other plans)

    * Wi-Fi is available for $2.99 per 24-hour period per device but it was flaky at best

    * There is a store with ice, firewood, food, beer, and wine, apparel, propane, diesel, and gasoline, rafts, and sleds.

    We arrived later than planned (just before dark) and it was cold and rainy the next day so we were not able to take advantage of the many nearby recreation activities but the staff recommended a nearby waterfall hike that we could do in inclement weather. We would definitely consider returning during better weather.

    Clear Lake Resort

    Best place to canoe

    A small quaint Resort. Would love to stay at the cabins, but my schedule is the same as everyone else. Was told by the Ranger to come and stay after Labor Day, they are open year round. I find it easy to bring my kayak up and use the lake to enjoy rowing around. This would be a great place for those paddle boards. The lake is for non-motorized boats. Can do fishing too. The Lodge is open as a restaurant between Memorial to Labor day. Boat rentals, cabin rentals and tent sites avaiable check the www.linnparks.com or call (541) 967-3917. A must to RSVP

    River Bend County Park

    Nice, well maintained, on the river!

    We had a great time staying at River Bend! This was our first trip here and won’t be our last, we’ve already made reservations for next year.

    The sites were maintained very well and the camp hosts were very friendly. In addition to the paved driveway for our trailer, there always a nice, large concrete pad for the picnic table with a fire pit built on to the corner. The neighboring site on the right was 20-30 yards away and the site on the left was 100+ yards away. Lots of trees all around, good shade for those hot August days.

    The bathrooms for the loop were a nice walk but not too far and they were cleaned 2x per day.

    We spent most of our days at the river swimming, floating in tubes, skipping rocks and looking for crawdads. It was an easy walk on well maintained trails to get to the river.

    The playground and adjacent field were fun for playing and games in the evenings.

    Being a long, hot year there were no fires allowed in the fire pits. That was a small bummer, but the fire danger was so high that it wasn’t a big deal. We used our propane fire ring instead and that was great. Kind of nice coming away from a camping trip and not smelling of smoke 😁

    Umpqua's Last Resort & Oregon Mountain Guides

    Beautiful area and great location, updates needed

    For us, Umpqua’s Last Resort was, well, a last resort! This was all about location for us. Close to the North Umpqua? Check. Camping Cabin? Check. Available? Check. Expensive? Nope. It worked, but there is nothing fancy about this place. It is fairly small, was definitely quiet, had lots of blackberries ready to pluck, and has a little store down the road where we were able to get what we needed. The cabin was fine, but the shower house had seen better days. Trails and creeks were accessible from the property and it is in the neighborhood for a great day rafting, fun swimmin’ holes and Crater Lake National Park. In 2015, cell reception was spotty.

    Odell Lake

    Beautiful and windy

    We booked site 30, which is up a hill away from the water with a few other sites (27, 28, 29). The site was rated for 32 feet and we were able to comfortably fit our 31 foot trailer and long bed truck. We did have to pull in way too close to the fire pit to make this work but there is a burn ban so we would not have been using it anyway. It would have been nice to know that we were up a hill since we have a toddler, but it wasn’t a huge deal.

    The trailer took up the vast majority of the level space available at the site, but otherwise it would be a nice space for a tent and chairs around the fire.

    Be aware that the wind picks up around noon and goes super strong until after you go to bed. It’s great for not getting any mosquito bites but it is not a mild breeze!

    The lodge staff weren’t overly helpful but not hostile either. I’m sure they are understaffed and annoyed by tourists just like everyone else. They had live music Saturday night and we would have loved to go if our little one wasn’t asleep.

    The area has so many hikes and bike trails so close by that you could spend weeks there and not get bored.

    River Bend County Park

    Love this place, Can't wait to go back!

    Came here to meet up with a Facebook camping group. It was one member's favorite place and I see why! Nice level sites with water and electric. Dump station on site. The sites are private with picnic tables and fire pits. The bathrooms are very nice. Peeked inside some of the creekside cabins. Those look super cute.

    The main attraction here is the South Santiam River, which in October is stunning. Would love to visit in the summer when can actually take a dip. It's a great place to come and sit and meditate, watch the birds, just relax. Love it here!

    Hi-Way Haven RV Park

    Great experience!

    Great RV park! All sites are pull through, fenced off leash dog area, several other on leash dog areas, playground, nice little store, ice, propane on site, and most importantly the movies on the old drive-in screen Thursday through Saturday nights during the summer! I cannot comment on the showers as I used my own and not theirs. 30 and 50 amp sites. Nice packed gravel sites with paved patio areas and wood fence dividers between sites. Each site has bistro style table and chairs (2). I really enjoyed!! Oh and if you choose to sit in the nice grassy area (plastic Adirondack chairs provided) for the movie they serve free popcorn 🍿 If you can see screen from your site the sound on FM station. Good wineries close too!!

Guide to Fall Creek

Cabin accommodations near Fall Creek, Oregon primarily cluster around the McKenzie River and South Santiam River areas. This region sits in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains between 700-1,200 feet elevation with mild summers averaging 75-85°F and wet winters. Winter cabin rentals often face limited access on forest roads when snow accumulates above 1,000 feet.

What to do

Disc golf competition: Whistlers Bend County Park maintains a championship-level disc golf course that attracts serious players. "Disc golf rated number 2 in nation," notes one visitor, who also appreciates the "child play area and free parking for campers." The course winds through oak grassland with both open drives and technical tree shots.

River swimming: River Bend County Park provides direct river access for cooling off during summer months. "The main attraction here is the South Santiam River, which in October is stunning. Would love to visit in the summer when can actually take a dip," writes one camper. The park includes designated swimming areas with gradual entry points.

Hot springs soaking: The mineral-rich pools at Belknap Hot Springs Lodge and Gardens offer year-round relaxation opportunities. "The hot spring fed pools are so amazing. The hidden garden is something out of a movie," shares a visitor. The springs maintain temperatures between 102-104°F and require timed reservations for access.

What campers like

Historic forest structures: Musick Guard Station provides an authentic forestry outpost experience. "Built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the guard station and its outbuildings stand as a testament to early fire protection efforts in the Bohemia Mining district," explains a visitor who appreciates the historical significance.

Group facilities: Clark Creek Organization Campground offers specialized accommodations for larger gatherings. "Wonderful group camp that can sleep all your friends and relatives! Fun little bunk houses for the kids and a big covered area for cooking and hanging out," reports one camper. Another notes, "This group camp is amazing, so you better book it far in advance."

Concrete camping pads: River Bend County Park features level, solid platforms that improve comfort in wet conditions. "Sites are level and have concrete pads, great for relaxing by the fire ring," explains a reviewer. Another camper adds, "The concrete slab kept the ground more dry than had it just been gravel."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Popular cabin locations fill quickly during peak seasons. For Clark Creek Organization Camp, one reviewer advises, "This group camp is amazing, so you better book it far in advance." Sites at Fisherman's Point Group Campground also require advance planning as "this is a very big size camp it is reserve camp for group camping."

Water level fluctuations: Local reservoirs experience significant drawdowns, affecting water access and recreation. "Even though the water's been low lately, we always find a place to swim," notes a Fisherman's Point visitor. Fall Creek Lake can drop 30-40 feet below full pool by late summer.

Cell service limitations: Most forest cabins have minimal connectivity. At Musick Guard Station, one visitor notes the benefit of offline music access "in such a remote area with limited internet access," highlighting the lack of reliable signal.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Whistlers Bend County Park offers dedicated play equipment for younger visitors. "There is a playground for the kids & a very nice disc golf course," mentions one reviewer. Another adds the park has a "play structure for the little ones, boat ramp, waterfront sites."

Swimming safety: River access points vary in current strength and depth. At River Bend County Park, one visitor specifically selected it because of "direct access to the south santiam river for swimming and fishing." Parents should note that most natural swimming areas lack lifeguards.

Group accommodations: Clark Creek Organization Camp provides specialized facilities for family gatherings. "It is the perfect place for families. The older teens loved sleeping in the shelters, while the parents preferred tents," shares a visitor who attended a church event at the campground.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Dexter Shores RV Park offers full-service connections with well-maintained facilities. "Clean. Long pull throughs. Quiet. Pride in ownership for sure," notes one RV camper. Another mentions, "We brought our RV and had no problems with setup or parking. No additional charge for a second vehicle."

Bathroom accessibility: Facility availability differs significantly between locations. At Dexter Shores, a visitor appreciates that "I used their restrooms. They were warm, clean, and well-lit." This contrasts with remote cabin locations like Musick Guard Station where "no electricity or running water" means limited amenities.

Site spacing considerations: Proximity to neighbors varies widely between parks. At The Willamettans, campers appreciate the family-friendly facilities including "tennis, pickleball, dog park, restaurant, library and a wonderful staff." This community-oriented setting differs from more isolated forest cabins.
