    Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins

    Family Friendly

Great campground with lots to do! RV sites are a little small and close together, but comes with a picnic table and fire pit. There are back in and pull through RV spots - along with nice shady spots for rent camping. Cabins are also available. Great spot to camp if interested in tubing/canoeing/kayaking down Mohican river. When you arrive everyone in the vehicle checks in, and then someone on a golf cart takes you to your spot. Campground has an indoor pool and hot tub. Also has pond with paddle boards and paddle boats that need to be reserved at additional cost. Quite a few playgrounds available and mountain bike trails. Small creek runs along the campground. All guests are given a wrist band that gives you a discount at the Trails End restaurant and at Mohican Adventures across the street.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Winter Time But No Snow

We stayed on a full hook up site (turned off for the season) that had a nice concrete level pad. There was also a nice side pad that kept our chairs clean. A little further back in the campground to be close to the shower house that was open. Then found out that comfort station next to us was open - nice! Also close the water which was full and rushing all weekend.

The camp store was open on the weekend and the staff was nice to chat with. They had wood, but it was slab cut which doesn’t burn very well. We decided against it. Lots of snacks and other items still available.

Some sites were really close to the water, almost too close as the water flooded a few spots. The campground is nice to walk if you like to get in a little workout. They also have small camper cabins and them much bigger cabins which a few are pet friendly.

We went on a hike by the covered bridge to one of the waterfalls. Lots of trials to choose from.

    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Unexpected Treat in Central Ohio

As part of a nearly 200-mile bikepacking ride, this was our last stop! We spent 2 nights in their "Class B" area down in the Mohican River Valley and loved it.

The oddly named “Class A” camping area offers everything from full-hook up camping slots for campers large and small, as well as just electric sites and 10 “walk-in” primitive sites, and cabins -- all of which are reservable. This area has all the bells and whistles of a modern campground with an environmental learning center, a nice outdoor pool, clean showers and bathrooms, an extensive playground and hiking and mountain biking trails right out the front door.

The “Class B” area offers 25 primitive sites on a first-come, first-served basis. It is almost 6 miles by road from the “A” services, but only a 2-mile flatish hike along the river trail. At these sites, there are only pit toilets and a water pump. Each site has a picnic table and a small fire ring. There is also a large group camping area just a few miles away from the primitive “Class B” area.

Tubing and canoeing are available within the park, but there are also several canoe outfitters in the area which provide rental / pick up services. The sheer number of these businesses makes me think that summer time can be crowded!!

Beautiful shaded trails meander all throughout the park and they boast some of the most challenging mountain biking in the mid-west, so read your trail maps. Hiking, equestrian and winter snowmobile trails also offer some great opportunities to get out and stretch your legs throughout the year. There is also a safe and convenient, bike lane / bike path into nearby Loudonville, which has a small grocery story and the usual fast-food restaurants.

Note: The only reason why this park didn't get a 5 star was due to their customer service. It was absolutely lousy, confusing, and the young folks working behind the counter acted as if they didn't want to be there and/or hadn't been trained. We almost left, but since we had cycled 42 miles to get there that day, we chose to stay and enjoyed our time in their Class B sites.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

    Malabar Farm State Park Campground

    Rustic

I found Malabar Farm in Lucas, OH on my way home from Mom’s house. Never heard of it before and I have been this way for over 20 years now. Louis Bromfield was a conservationist and among many other things (including winning a Pulitzer) he was in the forefront of organic and self-sustaining gardening. This place is amazing! ( and would be an excellent home schoolers camping trip!) Not your typical going hiking kinda campground (there are trails but they are not “major”) you come here to step away from city life and tour a working farm. Ohio countryside at its best. Primitive camping with a gravel parking pad and water, fire ring, picnic table and hitching post. No reservations, this is a first come campground. There’s also a small rentable cabin open year round. Definitely worth a visit and very family oriented events. ( your teenager will roll their eyes at you but probably secretly enjoy the visit)

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Great park

This is a great state park campground. We stayed at an electric site. The spots are decent sized, plenty of restrooms, pool, playground and camp store that sells ice cream! Tubing down the creek next to the campground was super cool too. Cabins looked very nice and secluded. We hiked to the swinging bridge which was newly dedicated (May 2021).

Guide to Wooster

Cabin camping options near Wooster, Ohio include sites situated on scenic waterways, in wooded settings, and near Amish Country. The area experiences four distinct seasons with humid summers averaging 80°F and winters dropping below freezing with occasional heavy snowfall. Cabins range from basic structures to fully equipped units with several parks offering year-round availability.

What to do

Hiking trails access: Mohican State Park Campground features extensive trail networks with diverse terrain. "Nice hiking trails with a covered bridge, overlook and waterfalls. The sites are nice and large with lots of trees throughout the park," notes Andrea F. The Hemlock Gorge trail is accessible from the primitive campground area.

Water recreation: Maple Lakes Campground offers fishing lakes with benches for relaxing. "Sunsets over the lakes are beautiful," shares Penny G., who visited with her camper. The multiple lakes provide serene settings for anglers and peaceful evening views.

Winter activities: Seasonal cabin campers can enjoy the quieter off-season atmosphere. At Mohican State Park Campground, one camper mentions, "Beautiful area to see in the winter & not as busy. You will mainly see people fishing for trout." Winter cabin rentals provide heated shelter while still allowing outdoor activities.

What campers like

Privacy options: The primitive campground at Mohican offers secluded spots. "I always try to go to the end of the long campground where I feel it is quieter," explains Marci P. These more remote cabin and tent areas provide a peaceful alternative to the busier main campgrounds.

Clean facilities: Evergreen Park RV Resort maintains exceptional standards for their cabin and RV areas. A camper describes it as "so nice and clean. The staff is wonderful. Every site is full hookup." The indoor pool remains open year-round, allowing swimming regardless of season.

Amish Country access: Cabin rentals near Wooster provide convenient bases for exploring local Amish communities. Beth G. appreciated Evergreen's location: "Beautiful resort in the middle of Amish Country with plenty of beautiful scenery, lots of shopping, wonderful roadside produce and cheese stands."

What you should know

Varying electrical capacity: Some cabin sites have limited power. At Lake Wapusun RV Resort, one camper noted: "Our site was a normal gfi outlet and couldn't run a/c and air fryer... no biggie we did wings over a fire." Check specific cabin power capabilities before booking.

Water quality considerations: Several campgrounds have well water systems. Joe F. recommends: "I'd have a filter for water also" when staying at Lake Wapusun. This is particularly important for cabin stays where you'll be using water for cooking or drinking.

Reservation timing: Popular cabin rentals fill quickly, especially for summer weekends. Jeffrey L. notes about Findley State Park Campground: "Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Family-friendly cabin areas often include play structures. At Whispering Hills Campground, facilities cater specifically to children. "Amazing for families... sooo much for Kids and adults to do... Kids activity Schedule 9-9 almost daily," reports Cyndi L.

Activity planning: Scheduled events enhance family cabin stays. One camper notes: "My family and I had a Blast at Whispering Hills. So many activities for the kids to do and my kids were able to walk around freely without us having to be right on top of them."

Swimming options: Look for cabins near water features. Mohican State Park offers river access, while Crystal A. describes Findley: "The beach is ok but you can rent various styles of watercraft to explore the lake." Indoor pools at some resorts provide swimming options regardless of weather.

Tips from RVers

Site selection research: Not all cabin areas have equally sized sites. Crystal A. advises: "I would recommend doing some research on campsites as they range from small to large for the same price." Calling ahead can help secure appropriate accommodations.

Off-season advantages: Winter cabin camping offers unique experiences. Andrea F. shares about Findley State Park: "Camping in the off season is our favorite time of year. This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off."

Cell service variations: Coverage differs significantly between cabin locations. One camper mentions about Mohican State Park: "No cell service with Verizon at this park." This can affect planning, especially for those needing connectivity during their stay.
