    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Love this place

A great campground in Ohio. So clean and so many things to do. Campsites are close together but they do honor quiet hours. Great trail around the lake and a fun and challenging disc golf course.

    Best weekend camping

We will definitely be going back! Campground is on the lake and is beautiful! So many things to do! The camp is clean, has a playground, and movie night. Bath house is a typical campground bath house. We had a tent site and it was huge! Sites come with fire pit and picnic table. Beach is within walking distance of campsite.

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Charles Mill Lake Park Campground offers waterfront camping with easy lake access. "There is a lake with a boat launch nearby a playground and beach for families to swim," notes Katelyn P. The park maintains stocked fishing areas in both the main lake and smaller ponds.

Hiking trails: Multiple nature paths wind through the Wellington area campgrounds with varying difficulty levels. A camper at Mohican State Park Campground reports, "The hiking trails are great with a covered bridge, overlook and waterfalls." Many trails connect directly to camping areas for convenient access.

Water recreation: Swimming options range from natural beaches to maintained pools. At Freedom Valley, "A nice pool, clean amenities, and a bunch of welcoming campers made our weekend a lot of fun," according to Isaac K. Several campgrounds rent kayaks and paddleboards for hourly or daily use.

Wildlife viewing: Early mornings offer prime bird-watching conditions, especially near wetland areas. "We loved the vibe here and the campground is nice and quiet," shares Luis G. about American Wilderness Campground. Some campgrounds maintain dedicated wildlife viewing platforms near water features.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness ranks high in visitor feedback. "The bathrooms and shower house were clean as well felt so comfortable made lots of friends," writes John C. about American Wilderness Campground. Most campgrounds clean facilities multiple times daily during peak season.

Large campsites: Many Wellington-area campgrounds feature spacious sites with natural buffers. At Indian Trail Campground, Annette A. found "Super nice campground. Very quiet and enjoyable." Sites typically include fire rings, picnic tables, and level parking pads.

Water views: Lakefront and pond-view sites remain the most requested accommodations. "We stayed on the Eaglepoint side. It's opposite the main campground up the mile about .5 mile. The sites are not as modern but have more trees and natural beauty," notes Joseph E. about Charles Mill Lake Park.

Weekend activities: Organized events create community connections among campers. As Jessica J. describes, "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining." Scheduled activities typically run Friday evening through Sunday morning during summer months.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds require advance booking, especially for weekend stays. At Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park, Kathryn P. advises, "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters... This is a yearly trip for us!" Reservation windows typically open 3-6 months in advance.

Seasonal availability: Many Wellington-area campgrounds operate from April through October. According to a Freedom Valley visitor, the campground runs "April 15 to October 15." Yurt camping near Wellington, Ohio extends the camping season with climate-controlled options.

Cell service limitations: Phone reception varies significantly across campgrounds. Andrea F. notes, "No cell service with Verizon at this park" regarding Mohican State Park. Most campground offices provide wifi hotspots when cellular coverage is limited.

Weather considerations: Spring camping often means muddy conditions. Bring appropriate footwear and tarps for ground cover. Fall temperatures can drop quickly after sunset, requiring extra layers and heating sources for comfort, especially in yurts and glamping accommodations.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: East Harbor State Park Campground offers multiple play areas and beach access. "I enjoy this campground because there are lots of great spots to choose from. I love the ability to walk or bike to the beach," shares Jaclyn B. The park provides junior ranger programs during summer months.

Safety considerations: Select campgrounds with good pathway lighting and emergency services access. "The campground has a beach and playground. Camp store is nice and well stocked, gem mining and mountain bike trails are located within the campground as well as a pool," notes Andrea F. about Mohican State Park.

Entertainment options: Pack outdoor games and rainy day alternatives. "There was a nice fire roasting s'mores the atmosphere is so clean and nice we had a easy check in and we got to enter a chili cook off," reports Cassie V. about her stay at American Wilderness.

Multi-day planning: Structure your itinerary to include both on-site activities and nearby attractions. Most Wellington-area yurt camping destinations offer convenient day-trip options to local points of interest within 30 minutes' drive.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose pull-through sites for easier arrival and departure. At Milan Travel Park, Sue B. found "Many level pull through sites. We were just passing through so the ability to not have to unhook was important to us." Request detailed campground maps when booking to identify the most level options.

Hookup access: Full-service hookups aren't universal at all campgrounds. "Sites are a decent size in length, but pretty close together. Most look reliably level. Gravel and grass," reports Tracey S. about Milan Travel Park. Verify electrical amperage availability before arrival to ensure compatibility.

Dump station protocols: Many campgrounds restrict dump station hours to prevent nighttime noise. Follow posted procedures for waste disposal and rinse thoroughly after use. Some parks charge additional fees for dump station access for day visitors.

Storage options: Extended-stay campers should inquire about on-site storage between visits. April J. notes Milan Travel Park has added "newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking!" Some campgrounds offer discounted rates for multi-week reservations.
